A musician must make music,
an artist must paint, a poet
must write, if they are to be
ultimately at peace with themselves.
What a man can be, he must be.

~ Abraham Maslow

If, through the Law, thought is
creative, we cannot say that one
thought will create while another
will not. We must admit that ALL
thought is creative, according to
the impulse, emotion or conviction
behind the thought.

~ Ernest Holmes

My youngest son loves computer games and puzzles. He brings me these multiple choice questions that seem impossible to answer but there ALWAYS is an answer. As he says to me, "Mom, ALWAYS think out of the box." My sons come by their creativity naturally because my husband is a quirky kind of inventive guy that is always resourceful and thinks outside of conventional boxes. His uncle was a commercial artist and was my husband's father's twin brother, so it is not so surprising that my oldest son was born with an artist's soul. We recognized his artistic gifts early and have encouraged him to refine and develop his abilities through lots and lots of natural practice. He can design and create very quickly and effortlessly.

As the earthly mother of an artist's soul and for both of us as parents we are quite happy to allow our sons to fully express their actual natures. Their gifts are not the same but their creative intelligence is a joy to witness. Our children are educated at home within the framework of their natural interests. I know that my older son burns with the need to express himself creatively. Sometimes he experiences intense frustration when things don't go as he envisions them. Some of his lessons in that regard are my lessons as well as I must learn not to be emotionally triggered but seek to remain calm in my own emotions when his are at high intensity. Our younger son has a mind like a sponge and is naturally attuned to electronics and computer technology. We don't restrict his online time because it is in effect his channel of higher education.

There are many uses for Creative Imagination – artistic, practical, visionary, entertaining, problem solving, and connecting more intimately to explore of our inner space. Creativity is as natural to the Life we find ourselves embedded in (and truly, we all began as "creations" of Spirit's activity) as Love is to that Life. Energy is said to flow where our attention goes. We each have the choice available to us of where to put our attention and one choice is to put it into life affirming thoughts. Our imagination can give us little breaks from boring necessities. Imagination calls us to participate in a courageous approach to living. There is always "uncertainty" with the imagination – how might it happen ?, are we in the circumstances with the tools we need to cooperate with it happening ?

The Rev Ron Fox once wrote for a Science of Mind magazine Daily Guide (Jan 17, 2009) that – "WE are responsible for our lives. Nothing happens by chance. We are given the gift of writing our own stories. If we don't focus our thinking, we bring confusion into our lives. When we focus, we send a clear message into the universe, and all the power of the universe comes forth to assist us. In the tale Alice in Wonderland, Alice asks the cat which road to take. The cat replies, "It depends where you want to get." Alice responds, "I don't care where." The cat replies, "Then it doesn't much matter which way you go." Life works the same way. The famous musician, George Harrison, wrote in the lyrics of his song, Any Road – "...if you don't know where you're going. Any road will take you there." If we are practitioners of metaphysics then we are consciously and intentionally choosing our destinations. Spirit does the navigating and provides whatever we need to reach that destination. As co-creators we have the fun of witnessing Spirit's creative expression upon the canvas of our own life.

Ernest Holmes in his textbook Science of Mind describes how we use the Creative Principle. The "theory is that the medium is a Universal, simultaneous Presence and in this Presence all live; and that whatever is known at one point in It is known at all points, instantly !" He also goes on to explain how this Law works when we do a spiritual mind treatment for someone else far away from us. "...the speaking of his name draws the Law into the vibration of his personality, his individuality. Mentally, physically, spiritually, he is now in It." Holmes explains that all we have done with our spiritual mind treatment is to "tune into the keynote" of that other person's being. It works because the other person is also at the CENTER of our being and so we do the "mental work" in our own being for him. While the personal impression is subjective, our treatment can only operate through Law which is impersonal in its operation and knows only to do what we suggest into Its natural expression.

Every person is creative whether they avail themselves of that tool for their own life or close that door for their own self by thinking they lack something that more fortunate people have. Imaginative ideas lack solidity. We need to guard our imaginations from dwelling on worry or fear and not misuse our imagination in seeking to protect ourselves from imagined dangers. Newly invited possibilities remain tenuous at their inception and so if we doubt or feel unworthy of our created visions these feelings within us can damage all the positive energy we've embedded. It is only natural to put our imagination to work for our own and other people's good.

Imagination seems to have no boundaries
whereas acquired knowledge has definite limits.
I believe that anything we can imagine has
the possibility of being made solidly real.
Myths are a creative way of conveying deeply
into the self realities of human nature.
Imagination is the first step in creating
anything and the second step often requires
of us courage and strength.
Human imagination has the power to remake
our world.
