Little child
Be not afraid
The rain pounds harsh against the glass
Like an unwanted stranger
There is no danger
I am here tonight

It was a long night. First my boyfriend breaks up with me, on my birthday, then it starts pouring down. I'm on the street corner, the street is silent. And I'm the only one here. For a moment. I feel strong arms wrap around my small figure. I know who it is immediately.

Little child
Be not afraid
Through thunder explodes
And lighting flashes
Illuminates your tear stained face
I am here tonight

He gently pulled my to his chest, whispering "it's alright now. I've got you." Over and over. Kissing the top of my head every now and then.  I turn so I am facing his chest and cry like I've never before.

And someday you'll know
That nature is so
The same rain the draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And Forest and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning

I cry hard, clutching his shirt in my hands. He gently strokes my hair, whispering sweet nothings into my ear, trying to calm me down.

Little child
Be not afraid
The storm clouds mask your beloved moon
And it's candlelight beams
Still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight

He gently scooped my unit his arms, me, still crying into his chest. He started walking toward his house I think.

Little child
Be not afraid
The wind makes creatures of our trees
And the branches to hands
They are not real, understand
And I am here tonight

He walked in, the house quiet since he lived alone and carried me up stairs.

For you know,
Even once
I was a little child
And I was afraid
But a gentle someone always came
To dry all my tears
Trade sweet sleep the fears
And to give
A kiss goodnight

He laid my fragile finger down on his bed. I didn't let go of him so he came and laid down next to me. He stroked my hair softly as I fell asleep, mumbling "Goodnight, Princess." And kissed my forehead softly before I drifted into a deep, pleasant, safe sleep.
