Mention of an PowPow machine (it's not actually in the story though)

Racetrack Higgins lay wide awake in the king sized bed next to his boyfriends. The redhead was sleeping soundly, Spot and Elmer cuddled together while the blonde only wished he could say the same. At the moment, the ceiling was the most and least interesting thing in the world.

Race sat up, rubbing his eyes. He couldn't exactly turn on a light and start reading- he wasn't Specs or Davey. He also couldn't start watching TV and communicate with it out fear of waking Albert, Spot, and Elmer up- Al wasn't the happiest camper when awoken suddenly.

He could bake?

Maybe. But would that wake them?

He looked at his boyfriends- two of them snoring louder than normal because of allergies. Race kept staring.

Nah, they'll be fine.

Race removed the comforter from his legs and hopped out of bed, avoiding any creaky floorboards as he walked.

He opened and closed the door as quietly as he could, looking down the hall to make sure his son, Luca, wasn't awake. After nodding, he tiptoed to the kitchen through the small apartment.

Walking into the kitchen, he turned on the lights and winced at brightness, closing his eyes sharply. After rubbing them, he adjusted and got back to work.

First, he counted, cookie sheet and....

Race opened the refrigerator door, searching around for, "Cookie dough!"

He shushed the person who said that, looking beside him to find his son.

"Luca", Race chuckled, standing up and picking up the five year old. "What are you doing up?"

"I could smell your excitement from my room", Luca pointed at himself. "You should really be quieter."

Race stared at his son. "You hang out with your Dad too much."

"Papa!"

"Yeah?!"

"Cookies!"

Race looked back at the refrigerator. "Oh, yeah."

"Hurry", Luca rushed practically jumping out of his papa's arms. "Before Daddy, Pa, and Pop wake up!"

Race grabbed the leftover cookie dough and placed it on the counter. It was in a bowl, safe for the next time they wanted to make cookies (or just felt like salmonella wasn't that big of a deal).

"Listen closely, Luca", Race washed his hands. "I'm about to teach you one of the most important lessons of your life."

Luca was intrigued. "What is it?"

"Eating raw cookie dough is not a privilege ", Race grabbed a clump of cookie dough, "but a right."

"Says who?" Luca placed his hands on his hips.

"Says me."

"Which is why you shouldn't listen to what he says", Elmer walked into the kitchen, grabbing a cup from the dish rack. "Because he said it."

"Hey", Race whined. "I take offense to that."

"Good."

The three of them laughed, Race grabbing another clump of dough and rubbing it into a sphere. "What are you doing up?"

"I could ask you the same thing", Elmer, mumbled. "But I usually wake up at this time to get a glass of water", Elmer poured some water into a cup, "and use the bathroom."
