eight weeks...
It has been two weeks since her mothers wedding to Luke and since Rory had told her mother she was pregnant. There was no question as to who the father was, but thankfully Lorelai never asked her so she never had to admit it. But now Rory was panicking. The lease on her New York apartment was up at the end of the week and even if she did renew it, it wasn't any place to raise a child. It was small and damp and had that sticky wall. But she wasn't ready to call Logan. She wasn't ready to tell him she was pregnant with his child yet. So she called the one person she knew she could trust not to say a word to Logan.
"Finn?"
"Rory darling! How are you my dear!" Finn's chirpy australian voice came through the speaker. Rory was seated on the couch in her childhood home, both her mother and Luke were out working so she was in the house alone.
"I've been better." Rory admitted, feeling another wave of nausea rush through her. She breathed deeply, taking a minute.
"What's going on love?" Rory could hear the concern in Finn's voice.
"I need to talk to you about something, and you have to swear you won't tell Colin, or Logan, or Robert."
"I swear I will not say a word, what are best friends for after all?" The question is rhetorical, but Rory sighed in relief at his promise.
"I'm pregnant." There was a brief pause after she said it, then Rory can hear a muffled curse and a crashing.
"Shit! Sorry, sorry love. I tripped over the coffee table again." She giggled. "It's not funny." Finn whined, then let out a string of pretty nasty curses and a cry of pain. "Oh shit, okay Rory darling it appears i've broken my leg."
"What?" She gasped, standing up and searching around the floor for her shoes. "How do you know?"
"Well, there's blood, and I can see something white sticking out of my leg and the only reason i'm not screaming in agony is the fact i'm drunk." Rory paused briefly.
"It's 10 am!"
"When has that ever stopped me?" Rory rolled her eyes, agreeing.
"Alright, i'm gonna end this call, you are going to call 911, and i'm going to meet you at the hospital. Got it?" Rory instructed and Finn let out a groan of pain.
"Okay." Rory ended the call and immediately called her mother. Placing the phone on speaker she knelt down to look under the sofa, still searching for her shoes.
"Fruit from my loins, what can I do for you?"
"Mum! I need a lift to Hartford Memorial!" Rory shouted in triumph when she finally found her shoes by the front door.
"What? Why! Is the baby okay?"
"What? No i'm fine but Finn was drunk when I called him and he tripped over his coffee table like the dumbass he is and has broken his leg, badly."
"Honey can't you drive yourself?"
"I can't!" Rory exclaimed. "I leant my car to Lane and Zach."
"I can't leave the inn Rory!" Lorelai exclaimed. "I'm overbooked and up to my ears in paperwork. Go find Luke, i'm sure he'll be able to drive you."
"Okay." Rory said reluctantly and they ended their call. Rory sighed, why was Finn such a moron.
twelve weeks...
"When will this be over?" Rory moaned, resting her head on the side of the toilet and relishing in the contrast between her burning forehead and the cold toilet seat.
"Darling, according to your mother morning sickness is a normal and very good sign during a pregnancy." Finn called from just outside the door, his crutches laying across the hallway and sitting up against the wall, his casted leg spread out in front of him. "It's also a great thing when drinking, just saying." He also hadn't had a drink since he broke his leg, Rory having signed on as his sober sponsor as requested by his doctor.
"You're just talking now." Rory groaned as another wave of sickness swept over her and she threw up again. Finn grimaced at the retching sound, footsteps coming up the stairs as Luke's head appeared into view.
"Hey, I brought burgers and coffee from the diner." Luke called, then made a disgusted face as Rory threw up again. "Baby doesn't like hamburgers huh?"
"Adding it to the list darling." Finn called.
"Thank you, Finn." Rory managed to get out before she was throwing up again, this time both Finn and Luke grimaced.
"I'll leave it in the kitchen." Luke rushed down the stairs to escape the sound of Rory puking violently in the bathroom. A few minutes later the toilet flushed, followed by the taps running before Rory stepped out of the bathroom and slid down the wall beside Finn.
"How you feeling darling." Finn murmured, hooking an arm over her shoulders comfortingly.
"I've felt better." She reluctantly admitted, picking at the threads on her joggers. "God i've still got to meet with Lane later."
"I think you have time to sneak in a quick nap." Finn mumbled, yawning.
"It seems like you're the one in need of a nap." Rory teased, poking his shoulder. He weakly protested, head falling back against the wall with a thud.
"You've had me up since 5 am." Finn whined, eyes involuntarily drifting shut.
"Come on sunshine." Rory heaved herself up, helping Finn to his feet. Carefully they both made their way downstairs, successfully collapsing into the couch. "See? We made it."
"Sure did." Finn mumbled drowsily, eyes falling closed again though this time he made no move to fight it.
"I'm craving pie." Rory decided after a minute. "Luke did you bring pie!"
"Of course i brought pie!" Luke shouted back. "I've lived with your mother for 9 years, i never come home without pie!"
"You are the greatest." Rory left Finn to sleep, knowing he needed it.
sixteen weeks...
Rory sat at the table inside the coffee shop in Hartford, basking in the heavenly smell of coffee that she wasn't aloud to drink like she used to. Re-checking the clock for the fourth time since she entered the shop, she tensed up when the bell above the door chimed and in stepped Logan. She hadn't seen him since that night 4 months ago, and when she got the text saying he was in town for the weekend Finn figured it would be the perfect time for Rory to tell him.
"Hey Ace." Logan smiled, slipping into the seat opposite hers.
"I ordered you an iced tea." Rory nodded to the cup. "I know you like those."
"Thank you Rory."
"So i have something to tell you." Rory began, nervously fiddling with her fingers. "And the only reason i'm even telling you is because Finn told me i couldn't just keep hiding it from you-"
"Wait, Finn knows?" Logan asked, perplexed and Rory nodded.
"Mmmm, he's been living with me, my mum and Luke."
"Why?"
"He didn't tell you?" When Logan shook his head she giggled. "I shouldn't be surprised. He was drunk and we were on the phone and he tripped over his coffee table and broke his leg."
"No way." Logan gaped.
"Yes way. Snapped his calf bone in half, tore half a dozen ligaments and dislocated his kneecap." Rory showed him the x-ray she had on her phone, grinning at his stupefied expression. "He's also been forced into sobriety."
"How did that happen?"
"I'm pregnant." It came out so easily that when Logan froze, Rory didn't feel uneasy or scared at how he'd react. "I was waiting until you were in town until I told you, but I want to tell you something now. I do not want to get married. With how our families work they'd want us to get married immediately but I can't do that Logan."
"And I respect your decision." Logan finally fumbled out. "And I realise you are so much like your mother that there is no way I could make you do anything. So, i'm going to support you in any way I can."
"Oh you don't have to do that." Rory immediately protested.
"I had a feeling you'd say that." Logan chuckled. "Which is why I already bought you that apartment in Stars Hollow you were looking at a couple months ago."
"Logan! You didn't have to do that."
"I wanted too." They talked for over an hour before Rory had to head back home, and they parted ways with smiles and no hard feelings between either of them.
"It went well then darling?" Finn called out from his practically permanent residence on the sofa with his leg propped up on the coffee table.
"He bought me an apartment." Rory carefully sat down beside her, her slightly too large stomach for how pregnant she was causing her some discomfort.
"Sounds like Logan." Finn snorted.
thirty-two weeks...
Rory let out a gasp, freezing in her tracks when a slightly warm gushing feeling pools at her feet from between her legs.
"Mum!" Rory screamed out, standing frozen in the hallway between the living room and the kitchen.
"Rory! What is it baby?!" Lorelai rushes down the stairs, almost falling down them in her hurry to get to her daughter.
"My water broke!" Rory said, eyes widening. "Ohmygod my water broke! Where is Luke? Where the hell is Finn!?!"
"They're at the apartment Baby!" Lorelai rushed into Rory's bedroom and grabs the bag they had ready for this occasion, flinging it over her shoulder and guiding her daughter out to the car.
"But i'm a month early mum!" Rory freaked out. "Why am I a month early?!"
"It happens sometimes baby, now come on, we'll call the boys on the way."
When Finn and Luke rushed into the maternity ward, Rory was eight cm dilated and she was about to give birth to her child.
"Darling." Finn grasped onto Rory's hand, not flinching once at the tight grip she had when another contraction hit.
"Alright, ready to start pushing?" The nurse asked Rory, who nodded her head.
"I just want the damn thing out of me." Rory groaned out, crying out in pain as the contraction hit again.
"Start pushing Rory." Rory screamed as she did, and a few minutes childbirth later and a loud cry broke through the room. Rory let out a laugh of relief, her head falling against Finn's shoulder in exhaustion.
"Oh baby, it's a girl!" Lorelai exclaimed, taking the newly cleaned bundle of baby from the nurse.
"Oh a girl." Rory smiled, then grimaced. "Uh guys, looks like we're in for round two." Everyone but Finn and the nurses froze, looking at Rory.
"Twins?" Luke gaped at his step-daughter in shock.
"Ready to go again Rory?" The nurse asked and while Rory desperately shook her head, she screamed out in pain again when the contractions hit again, this time worse than the first. She squeezed onto Finn's hand like a lifeline, missing the way his hand cracked and his face twisted in pain as the pain let up, and another cry broke through the room.
"It's a boy." Luke told Rory, cradling the second child close as Rory fell back into Finn's comforting arms, a weak smile on her face.
"Can I hold them?" Rory asked anxiously, and Lorelai and Luke gently rested her twins into her arms. Rory gazed down at them for a moment, merely taking in the sight before her.
"Did you decide on names?" Finn spoke up, breaking the silence and Rory nodded.
"Annabelle Lorelai Gilmore and Alexander Lukas Gilmore." She said, looking up at her parents with a smile. "As long as that's alright with you, of course."
"Oh god i'm gonna cry." Luke blurted, breaking laughs from Finn, Rory and Lorelai.
"Hey, it's okay to cry." Rory assured him. "So you don't mind?"
"I'm honoured Rory." Luke smiled, squeezing her shoulder.
"Me too kid." Lorelai assured her, pressing a kiss to her daughters forehead.
"And I was hoping that you Finn," Rory craned her neck up to look at Finn with a grin. "Would be their godfather."
"I'd be more than willing."
four years later...
"Alexander Gilmore!" Rory's voice shouted through their apartment, and the giggle that followed had Finn glancing at Annabelle who was curled up in his lap. "Why is their purple paint on the walls!" Finn laughed loudly, Rory stomping into the living room.
"Babe come on." Finn laughed. "It's just paint, and we did agree they could do whatever they wanted to those walls."
"Yeah I know." Rory sighed, nodding her head. "Fine. Alec, movie time!" A few moments later the four year old with bright blonde hair and heterochromia eyes - blue and brown - waddled into the room.
That night, Rory sat on the couch with her husband of two years and her four year old twins, and realised life couldn't get much better than this.
