The next day Massimo had called for Maya to come by his office room as he had to tell her something. Something that would be the final straw, and after that Maya would be gone from his life forever. He had been dreading to do this part but had no other choice but to go with it.
Maya was still hurt from the conversation she had last night with Massimo, but decided to go see what else was there left for him to say to her.
On reaching his office room, she couldn't help but to remember how the day before she had wanted to go in there, but instead had to witness something that had shook her to the core, breaking her in the process.
Not taking any chances, she simply knocked first before entering. A deep Come in was followed as she finally opened the door and entered inside.
Massimo wasn't surprised when Maya entered inside but kept her eyes on the surroundings instead of looking at him. He wouldn't lie, it didn't make him feel good at all, but then he reminded himself how he would have to live without her eyes looking at him with love & affection anyway. So, he might as well start getting used to it as fast as he could.
"What is it that you want to tell me?" Maya wasted no time and came straight to the point.
Massimo had thought to maybe not say it straight out in order to prevent the inevitable, but looked like it was of no use. He had to say it nonetheless.
"You're free." And there he said it. He said what he had been having a hard time actually saying since last night, so much that he hadn't been able to sleep at all.
"Since there's no Dino anymore to harm you, there's no need for me to keep you here anymore." Maya finally looked at him. "You're free to leave from here."
Is he letting me go? Maya thought to herself. She felt pathetic about having such a reaction. Of course he would let her go! Now that there was no Dino and Hektor in the picture, there was no need for Maya to stay at his place anymore! But then why does it still hurt her so much?
She wanted to yell at him, tell him he couldn't decide for her! She wanted to slap some sense into him and ask him why he was doing this to her?! Again, she felt so pathetic because she didn't mind begging him to not let her go. But was it worth it? She had already lost her self respect to this man, she couldn't do that anymore. No, she wouldn't do that. If he didn't want her then she wouldn't beg him. So what if she still loved him? Clearly Massimo didn't love her, had never loved her. She wasn't going to stoop low anymore. She had had enough. If he wanted her gone, she would gladly fulfill his wish and would never show him her face again ever!
"Okay." So she replied after battling with her inner thoughts. "Is there anything else?" She asked, wanting to just leave because she was having hard time controlling her emotions.
Massimo although was glad that she didn't put up a fight, but was also a bit disappointed. He had wanted to see her fight, for the one last time he had wanted to see that side of her.
"No, that was all." He managed to say.
For a moment, they both looked into each other's eyes. It was as if they were savoring their last moment together. Involuntarily a tear slipped past Maya's eyes, making Massimo to almost jump from his seat and gather her in his arms. But he had to stop himself. He couldn't let her think that she meant anything to him, because he didn't want to hold her back.
Not being able to look at him any longer, Maya turned around and made her way out of his office room. A sob escaping her lips as she walked towards her room. Her steps halted as two pair of feets greeted her vision, on looking up her eyes met with worry filled eyes of Martha and Gabrielle. It was as if some bridge had been broken down, because she then ran towards them and almost fell in their arms while crying on their shoulders like a baby.
Both of them exchanged worried looks with each other on seeing Maya like that. It was for the first time Maya had cried like that in front of them. They didn't know why she was crying now that everything was settled. Dino and Hektor were gone and she had found her mother as well. So what could've been so serious that made her cry like that. They would definitely find out soon.

"You don't have to leave. You can still live here." Everyone except Massimo was there with Maya in the living room. She had called everyone, telling them about her departure.
"Yes, you don't have to go. He just let you free meaning you can now go wherever you want without having to worry about anything." All of them were trying to reason out with her. None of them wanted Maya to leave except for her mother Sophia. She had no problem with Maya leaving as she had wanted her to live her life the way she wanted. Also, she had always wanted Maya to stay away from the dangerous world of mafia, so she was happy Maya had decided to return to America.
"This was meant to happen and you all know that." Maya said, happy that atleast they wanted her to stay but unfortunately it wasn't enough.
"I've my entire life back in America. I can't abandon that forever." She tried to reason out. "If not today then tomorrow, but one day I'll have to go back."
"I don't understand. How is Massimo okay with you leaving?" It was Enzo. "I thought he was just kidding when he asked me to prepare for you and your mother to leave for America."
"Let's talk to him and see what's going on." Gabrielle said, Martha agreeing with her.
"We've already talk this over and it's what I wanted too." Maya exclaimed. "I mean you all know how I ended up here and ever since I've been waiting to go back."
"But it's just so sudden. We thought now that everything is settled oppa and you would take your relationship to some next level." On hearing Hana saying that Maya wanted to laugh, not a funny but a pathetic one.
They all had no idea how there was nothing left between her and Massimo. Not that there had been anything at all to begin with. Well, it had been but only one-sided.
"Like I said we've discussed everything." She didn't want to burst their bubble, so instead of telling them the reality of her and Massimo's relationship, she decided to play along. They would find out soon eventually.

"I'm happy that you want me to come live with you." Sophia said while looking at her daughter.
"I promised you that I'd keep in touch with you and get to know more about you and uh my father." Maya simply replied.
Well, she didn't lie she really wanted to know more about her parents and since her mother had no one to look after her, so Maya decided it would be better if Sophia came to live with her. They had many years to cover anyway and with everything lately Maya wouldn't mind having her mother by her side.
Though Maya smiled at Sophia but she could tell her daughter wasn't truly happy. She had known that the separation would cost Maya her happiness, but hadn't thought it would affect her that much. Maybe because her memories of him were still fresh and once she was away from him, with time Maya would eventually forget about him and move on in her life. With that thought, Sophia felt content.

"Promise me you won't forget about me once you're gone." Hana didn't like Maya going back like that. Well, if Massimo had come by to see her off, Hana wouldn't have thought that way. But since she could not see him anywhere she couldn't help but to sense that something wasn't right.
"I won't I promise." And it wasn't a lie. Maya wasn't going to forget about any of them. Well, except for one person. But even then she wasn't sure if she'd be able to completely forgot him?
Maya then looked at Aurora who had been silently watching their interaction from a distance. Since that day she didn't talk much to Maya. Though she tried to make things better but Aurora would simply walk away whenever Maya tried to talk to her.
Aurora looked away when she saw Maya coming her way. She didn't run away like usual but didn't make any move either. "Hi." Maya said on reaching her side. "I'm leaving." She then smiled at her. "I hope you soon find your mom."
Maya was about to turn around when Aurora held her hand out and stopped Maya. "Thank you for everything Maya." She then said, smiling back. "I'm glad to call you my friend."
"And you can call this friend and reach out to me anytime." Maya exclaimed, hugging her in the end. Aurora hugged her back, trying to control her emotions since she was truly going to miss Maya.

Maya knew it was of no use and yet she still couldn't stop herself from turning around and looking at the entrance of the mansion for the last time. She was inwardly wishing to see him for the one last time. But it looked like he didn't care at all. Feeling pathetic one more time, Maya shook her head and went to sit inside the car that was supposed to take her and Sophia to the airport.
Unknown to her, Massimo had been watching her from the window of his room. Not once did he look away from her as if trying to capture her in his memory forever.

1 month later....
It had been a month ever since Maya and her mother Sophia had returned to America. Both Bianca and Amanda had been ecstatic on finally seeing their friend after so long. But one look at their friend and they had found out that something was wrong. Sure enough they soon found out what was wrong. Maya had to literally stop Bianca from taking the next flight to Italy and castrate the bastard responsible for the crestfallen look on her best friend's face.
Currently Maya was in the hospital's canteen with Bianca and Amanda. When she had returned back, it took a hell lot of reasoning and explanation to make everyone understand where Maya had been for last eight months. Once done, she had continued her job as a nurse. Her mother was living with her in her apartment. In the past one month, she had gotten quite well with her mother. Both Bianca and Amanda had a hard time digesting everything but they soon settled down as well.
"So, you're saying you didn't get your period last month and think you're probably pregnant?" Bianca said, being always the straightforward one.
"Shhh don't say it out loud like that." Maya said looking here and there to see if anyone heard her friend.
"Jeez, alright. My bad." Amanda shook her at her friend.
"It can be just stress. Given how unhappy you have been lately, skipped period is no surprise." Amanda tried to reason out. "But just to be clear you can always go for pregnancy test." She then suggested.
Maya inhaled a sharp deep breath. She had not been expecting that. Well, now that she looked back to the few times she had sex with him, she vaguely remembered how he had not used protection when they had been doing that last time, which had been in the early hours of the day next morning. She remembered how he had said that he had pulled out on time.

Twice, no no thrice...or it could be more than that. That's how many times Maya had checked the five pregnancy tests that she had earlier bought, in order to make sure if she was really pregnant or not.
All of the five pregnancy tests showed the same result, which was positive. No matter how many times she checked it, the result remained tha same, POSITIVE.
She took a shaky deep breath. Her hand going to hold the bathroom door in order to support herself as she felt the world revolving around her. Well, looked like someone's pull out game wasn't strong after all.

"No matter what you decide just remember I'll always support you." Maya had told her mother first about the tests coming out positive. Just to be 100% sure she had also gone for the blood test and guess what it came out positive as well.
"I'm keeping it." There was no way Maya was going to abort the baby. She was well settled in her job and could easily earn enough money to provide a good life to her baby. So, abortion was out of the picture.
Sophia smiled widely at her daughter. "I'm happy for you my dear." She then gave her daughter a small tight hug. "Oh my god I'm soon going to be a grandmom!" Sophia knew who the father was, so she didn't waste time in asking all those questions. She also knew how difficult it must have been for Maya, especially after how she had to witness the man she loved to break her heart in such a way.
"Aren't you going to ask me anything?" Maya was glad her mother was there for her, but she also wondered if her mother didn't want to know about the father of the baby.
Smiling at her, Sophia caressed her daughter's face gently. "What's there to ask? My daughter is pregnant, she wants to keep the baby and become a mom soon, this is all that's important."
Hearing her mom say that out loud made Maya to realise the reality of the situation. She couldn't believe she was actually pregnant and would soon become a mother and have a small baby boy/girl. All of a sudden the thought of having a small cute boy occurred in her mind.
If it's a boy, he could have the same eyes as him... or maybe his nose.
Her heart skipped a beat when she realised she was carrying his baby. Involuntarily her hand made its way to touch her now flat belly. Looking down, she bit down on her lip. I'm carrying Massimo's baby..?
Tears began to gather at the corner of her eyes. She had been trying to forget him ever since she had landed in America a month ago. Not one day went by when she failed in doing so, because she just couldn't forget his touches...or the way he would look at her like....How he would make her heart beat so differently by just his close proximity and nothing else.
Sophia felt bad on seeing her daughter crying. For a month she had been watching how her daughter tried, she tried her best to put a smile on her face everytime she would greet someone or when she would go out. But all those times, Sophia had managed to look past her facade. She had thought with time Maya would eventually forget about him but Sophia should've known. She should've known that forgetting the one you loved with all your heart wasn't easy at all. She herself hadn't been able to look past her husband's death and still missed him every single day.

"How're you feeling?" Amanda and Bianca decided to stop by Maya's house once they found out she was really pregnant.
"Fine..I guess?" Maya was currently sitting on the couch while her friends were sitting on either side of her. They both had their arms around her, in order to provide her some comfort.
Both Bianca and Amanda looked at each other. "Does your mom know?" Bianca asked in a low voice.
Maya nodded her head. "She was the first one to find out."
"Hii girls!" Her mom made an appearance herself. "Dinner is on me tonight so decide what you want to eat and I can order it for y'all." She seemed pretty excited.
"Someone looks happy." Amanda pointed out.
"Well ofcourse I am. After all I'm going to be a grandmom soon!"
Bianca and Amanda looked at her and then towards Maya who in turn simply shrugged her shoulders. "She is more excited to become a grandmom than you becoming a mom." Bianca exclaimed and they all chuckled.

They all had enjoyed dinner together. Maya was happy on seeing her mom and two best friends by her side. She was glad that she wasn't alone in this, she had her women by her side to support her.
"Uh have you told anyone else yet?" It was Bianca who asked that.
Maya looked up at her and found all of their eyes on her. Currently all of them were enjoying some ice cream in the living room after having a tasty dinner.
"No, I haven't." She simply replied. "And it's not like I've anyone to share the news with other than you all anyway."
Maya knew what Bianca was referring to, or more like whom.
"Are you in touch with Hana?" Amanda asked.
"Yes, but we only talk ocassionally." She replied. It was true she did talk with Hana and even Enzo but it was very rarely. Last she had talked with Enzo, he had told her about Aurora's mother, how they had managed to find her. Fortunately, she had been alive and in good condition. Maya remembered being happy that Aurora finally had her mom.
After that day she didn't get to talk to either of them. Not that they didn't try to reach her, but it was her who didn't want to connect with them. She had thought it would be no problem for her to talk to them and not bother about him. But she had been wrong. From somewhere somehow they would end up mentioning him to her. Maya didn't know what he had told them about why he had set her free, and she actually didn't want to know because she didn't care anymore, at least that's what she had been trying to convince herself.

"Working out until exhaustion hits him, that's what he has been doing every single night." Enzo said, shaking his head in disapproval.
It had been a month since Maya had left and ever since then not once did Massimo interact with anyone. He would simply spend his entire day all by himself inside his office room, then at night he would work out until morning and finally after taking a shower he'd return to his office.
He had ordered to send his meals at his office room and sometimes he wouldn't eat that as well. Everyone especially Martha and Gabrielle were worried about him, for his physical and mental well-being. Enzo even tried once to find out what was wrong, tried to talk to him but Massimo would simply shurg him off or walk away.
In the end, they had finally told Mr. Romano everything. And he didn't waste any time and immediately came to look what was wrong with his son.
"Have you tried to talk to Maya? Did she not tell why she left?" Mr. Romano asked.
"No, she wouldn't tell us a thing." Enzo replied. "Instead she'd disconnect the call saying she had something urgent to do every time I tried asking her about it."
"Yeah she'd do exactly the same with me." Hana agreed.
"What about her friends? Have you tried talking to them?" Mr. Romano asked referring to Bianca and Amanda.
"Yes, I did talk to them but they only said that Maya had made them to promise her not to tell anyone anything." Hana exclaimed. "So they wouldn't tell me a thing. But I remember Bianca once accidentally in a way said how she'd have loved to castrate oppa if Maya hadn't stopped her from doing so."
They all exchanged looks with each other. "On hearing Bianca say such a thing I figured oppa must've done something that made Maya to leave like that."
"Well, to know what he exactly did, there's no other way but to ask him directly." And with that Mr. Romano made his way towards Massimo's office room, the place where he had been spending his entire time ever since.
