Okay... just walking in the dark... looking for villains. No biggy.
You followed close behind Endeavor, having a good laugh at yourself and how your romantic night turned out. It made you tense up every time the man took a step in his heavy-duty boots. How were you supposed to sneak up on anyone with these elephant stamps?
"... was right... damn glutton..." Endeavor muttered to himself.
Was this normal behavior? You thought it better not to ask him to repeat himself. But it seemed like Endeavor wasn't entirely surprised by the current situation. In fact, he looked angry and like he wanted to eradicate the situation as if it were an annoying fly.
At least he's confident...
"Fuyumi!" Endeavor barged down one of the doors. You stopped breathing, not knowing what could be on the other side. A crime scene? Dead bodies? Dabi looking like the shade king?
"Endeavor! Good thing you listened to me, huh?"
........ Hawks?
"Get away from my daughter, punk," Endeavor grumbled, "And put Shoto down - he's not a frail weakling!"
It was still dark, but you saw the outline of Hawk's wings in the shadows. Endeavor lit himself up so you could better see Fuyumi's room.
"I guess that's the closest I'll get to a 'thank you'," Hawks shrugged, "Don't worry, I already rounded up the creeps vandalizing your house."
Shoto was elevated off the ground by some red feathers, looking confused. The window to the bedroom was wide open and some poor girl with white and red-speckled hair was clinging to a dude on her bed.
"You had a boy over?" Endeavor asked her.
Ah, Shoto's sister and the boyfriend.
"Sorry to barge in like that," Hawks said, "But you did have the window open."
"It's okay, Hawks..." Fuyumi did her best to compose herself and not look embarrassed. At least they weren't in the middle of anything compromising. Her boyfriend sputtered something about Hawks being in her room and having a fanboy moment.
"Looks like we crashed date night, Endeavor," Hawks kept his cocky smile as he glanced at you, still hidden behind Endeavor, "I hope we didn't interrupt anything too important, Shoto Todoroki."
Fuyumi looked around for Shoto and then you. She perked up pretty quick and waved a greeting to you, "Oh! Hello, Shoto's date. Awkward circumstances I'm sure..."
"Date night?" Endeavor looked stupefied, "Can we get back to the issue at hand! Who was on my property?"
"Looks like some low level villains. You can go say hi to them. They're hanging around out back."
You knew he meant that part literally too. Low level villains and vandals? This was not what you were expecting. Especially after all the hype Dabi made over the phone.
In fact, it was almost suspiciously low key...
Shoto was dropped on his feet as the feathers returned to Hawks' back. It was then you considered what and how much Hawks may have overheard with those pesky little red sensors of his. Now, you weren't sure his comment to Shoto was all that courteous.
"How did you know to come here?" Shoto asked, "I thought you were working late."
"We were," Endeavor huffed, "Fly boy said he sensed something heading this way."
"Sensed," huh?
"I'm sorry, I couldn't stop them from doing some of the damage," Hawks said.
"I'll deal with them," Endeavor said, "I hope you're focusing on the upcoming exams and not getting sidetracked, Shoto. (Y/N)."
That was all you for from Shoto's dad, and he was out. For a hero on fire 24/7, he was cold and not personable. At least he acknowledged you?
"Did you really catch all the villains?" You asked Hawks.
"Yup! Quick - I know. You'll get used to it after being at my agency."
"You're working with Hawks?" Shoto asked. There was a hint of concern in his voice.
"It's a possibility," you said. You weren't buying it. Hawks was hiding something. It felt wrong to doubt him, after everything, but something wasn't adding up.
"She's just warming up to the idea," Hawks said, "Slow to commit and all. Not me, though. I know what I want."
"Great..." Shoto sighed, "I guess I should get you back to the dorms, (Y/N). It's going to be chaotic here."
"It was a little scary seeing strangers standing outside my window... so, I'm glad you came Hawks," Fuyumi said, "Oh wait, you're the succubus girl! Sorry, I can't really see 'cause dad walked out of the room... hi!"
It was true - the room was dark again but your eyes had adjusted. Fuyumi's boyfriend fanboyed all over again, now because you were in the room.
"Yeah, let's go..." Shoto took you by the hand.
"I can give her a lift if you want to stick around, Todoroki?" Hawks offered.
Shoto looked like he would rather die, but you understood if he wanted to stay, at least for a while. You were even curious and wanted to investigate the villains but you didn't want to overstep on family stuff.
"I can go if you want to stay with your family, Shoto," you said, "Don't feel bad... I know you didn't plan on having your house invaded."
You tried to make light of it for his sake, but you knew having Hawks take you home after spending time with him would irk him no matter what.
"Okay," Shoto said, "I'll walk you out, though."
The window was still open and Hawks stepped out, but Shoto took you all the way through the house to his doorstep. You enjoyed the first part of the evening with him, but you didn't feel much closer to figuring out any deeper feelings for him. You did however discover he could play rough - maybe a secret kink or something...
"Thanks, Shoto," you said, "I promise I had fun - before this part."
"I'm glad..." his eyes were focused below your chin, "Wait here."
He disappeared upstairs somewhere and returned with a white sweater. When he put it in your hands you saw that it had a turtleneck top. Your face burned as you attempted to check yourself for hickies.
"I don't think they'll last," he said, "But I don't want Hawks getting any weird ideas about what we were doing..."
You cringed. He can totally hear us, but okay.
"I liked it, though," Shoto added, "I hope I wasn't too much..."
You shook your head, "I'm glad you could, um, let loose a little?"
His eyes brightened, even in the night. He reached for your cheek and left you with one last sweet kiss before returning to Endeavor.
You sighed. This family felt loaded with drama - it almost made your life seem vanilla. You giggled at the sweater he gave you, knowing Shoto was doing his best to not embarrass you. Since you would be so close to Hawks, you pulled the sweater on over your head. Your wings weren't too happy and it squished your dress at the hips, but you would be grateful once you started flying.
Now that you were outside, you could hear Endeavor interrogating the captured villains. They were on the other side of the house, so you couldn't see them, but it sounded like Endeavor had things under control.
Hawks waited at the front gates. One of the doors looked crunched, like something hard tried to break it down. His arms were crossed and he tapped his fingers against his elbow crease. When he saw you approaching, his wings flexed.
"Ready?" He asked.
"No," you frowned, "You're not telling me something."
Hawks tilted his head, feigning innocence, "What do you mean?"
"You could hear the villains coming... you could hear us too, right?"
"Mhm?"
"Then you heard a certain phone call I had - right."
You couldn't see if his expression revealed anything. Thanks to it being dark out and his visor protecting his eyes, all you had was his smile that remained still.
"Always so skeptical of me. I'm not used to that," he seemed humored, but you weren't, "But I kinda like it."
"I'm sorry?"
"I'm just tickled that you don't take me for face value," he grinned, "C'mere."
His wings curled inward like he was ushering you into him. He didn't answer your questions, though. Why would you feel like getting closer?
"I said I would keep you safe, didn't I? Even if things seem a little peculiar, you can trust me," he said.
"That just makes you sound more sketchy!"
You walked around him instead, and stomped your way down the sidewalk. That's when you saw what some of the villains were trying to do. Graffiti was left on the exterior wall, the part that hadn't been knocked down. It probably could've gotten really bad if Endeavor and Hawks hadn't come, and if Fuyumi had been home alone.
No surprise, Hawks followed next to you, hovering.
"Kid, I did hear your phone call, bits anyway. But he wasn't here," he said.
You stopped, "Why didn't you just say that!"
Hawks kept himself floating next to you, but rest his elbow on an invisible platform while he lay horizontal, "I like watching you think. You've changed a lot even since I met you. It's good."
"You're exhausting..." you scoffed, "What do you mean he wasn't here? He was acting like he could see me."
"Dabi's a fan of psychological bullying - my guess. His goons could see you and probably reported back," Hawks said, "But they weren't much to handle."
"Why bother sending a bunch of weak villains to attack Endeavor?"
"You tell me! Seems kinda stupid, huh?"
He's fishing... again!
"Was it a distraction..?" You thought, "Or a warning. Or just Dabi being an ass."
"Could be all."
"No. Dabi has a plan... he's not like Tomura where he attacks just for fun. I don't think?" You looked Hawks in the eye, or where you guessed his eyes were, "We're not leaving too soon... Right?"
"We're fine. Endeavor's the best, remember!"
He landed on his feet and waited for you to stop pouting. You felt better but you still weren't happy about how Hawks toyed with you.
"Think we could stop by the phone store on the way home..?" You asked.
"Sure!"
***
It was your best, worst idea ever taking Hawks shopping.
As soon as you both landed in the city you were swarmed - mostly because of Hawks. The fan girls were overwhelming for you, but Hawks handled himself so well, like a professional celebrity.
"Can we get a picture with you?!" Someone asked timidly.
You thought it was another one of Hawks' adoring fans, but the girl was looking to you. Pictures? How do you even pose with a fan?!
"Sure," you said, and four girls pressed themselves around you with their phones ready to selfie.
"Thank you! We love you guys!"
"Hottest couple, I swear."
"Make cute hero babies!"
... babies?!
Hawks wrapped a wing around you to shield from the crowd, and get you closer to him, "Hear that? We need to get married, fast."
"Why?!"
"So we can make little baby birds."
You elbowed his stomach, but he was faster. He used your momentum to pull you across him and catch you with his arm. It looked like you tripped and he was the charming hero who swooped in before you fell.
The fans with their phones squealed. Someone might have cried? And while you glowered up at that handsome face, Hawks was simply enjoying himself.
The good news was, by the end of it, you did get a new phone. For free. The plus side of showing up as a "hero couple." The downside, Hawks bragged about it the entire way home.
When you returned to UA, Hawks lowered you on the balcony to your dorm room and perched on the railing. He continued to smile warmly while you watched the city from a distance. You wanted to set up your new phone and call Shoto to see if everything was alright.
"They're fine."
Your eyes snapped up, "Can you tell?"
"Yes."
"Okay," you relaxed your shoulders, "That's good..."
"So. Endeavor's son. How's that going?"
"Goodnight, Hawks."
You went to open your sliding door, but felt Hawks' presence close behind. So, you stopped and prepared yourself for more antics with a deep breath of air.
"I'm serious," he said.
"You're never serious."
"Maybe you just don't want to believe me."
"That makes no sense."
"No?" He finally got you to turn around, "What if I was serious about you? Would that scare you?"
You thought about it. It would, but why? Because he was too perfect. Too attractive. Too successful. Too charismatic. Too friendly. Too...? You were waiting and hoping for a flaw to make him more realistic to you.
"I guess you're allowed to believe what you want," he lifted your hand up to his lips, "But I believe we're good together."
He kissed your hand like he was about to make love to it. Holy hell. If that's how this boy kisses normal...
Hawks eyed you to make sure you were watching before letting your hand back to your side.
"Do me proud with the exams, kid," he said, "I'll be watching."
He stepped off the railing and fell before opening his wings. You watched him soaring away, seemingly without a care. As much as heights made you nervous, there was something peaceful about flying. You could make all your problems look small and insignificant.
You could step off this railing and fly off into the night too. He would probably catch you if he heard you coming - hold you up like you were about to kiss in the rain in a stupid romance movie. Falling for him would be easy, being with him would be complicated...
But you slid your glass door shut and went to bed.
When morning came, you had no headaches, no nightmares, just warmth and contentment. With your new phone, and no cracks, you got the details of last night from Shoto.
You:
Glad everyone's okay!
Shoto:
Glad you're okay too
You:
I hope our cake wasn't burned to a crisp...
Shoto:
I saved you some
The villains who came to Endeavor's home were tipped off on the location and his absence that evening. They also happened to be people related to villains Endeavor dealt with in the past. You could only imagine what they had in store for Fuyumi. The thought made you despise Dabi's actions even more.
A knock came to your door but you were still in bed.
"Come in!" You yelled.
You knew it was Midnight the minute you saw her luscious hair. She had a small bag with her that smelled like food and a suitcase that looked similar to the ones that held your hero costumes.
"Hey, sweetie," she said, "Sleeping in?"
"While I can," you said, "How are you? What's all this?"
"Breakfast - or brunch? I guess!" Midnight smiled and sat at the edge of your bed, crossing her long legs, "And this... is from Monarch."
Your stomach lurched, "I forgot you guys were fornicating..."
"What trash talk is this?!"
"It's weird!" You said, "You're both sort of - not really - my parents. And you're doing dirty things... plus you hate each other?"
Midnight didn't look like she disagreed, "He does annoy me. It's not like we're going to get married so, don't worry!"
"Then why?!"
"Do you really want to know?"
You considered your next words carefully, "Maybe not... I just can't believe it happened. You were both like angry cats around each other. And then you thought sex with him sounded like a good idea?"
"It was a slip up at first... We were both mutually emotional after we got you back safely. And as crazy as it may sound to you I am picky about my partners! I haven't had a boyfriend in ages, let alone a fuck-buddy."
"MY AUNT CANNOT USE THE WORDS FUCK-BUDDY!" You covered your ears, "You're officially banned!"
"Sheesh, if this grossed you out remind me to not bring up anyone from the school staff," she snorted.
School staff? No. Oh no. Your mind went racing with all the male names you knew. "Aunty... not Aizawa..?"
"That was only one time."
☠️
"(Y/N)?" Midnight poked your face but you were unresponsive. She shrugged and dug out one of the donuts from her bag of goodies, "Eat this, and love me, please! I haven't gotten to gab with you in a while..."
When you returned to reality, you ate the donut while your aunt watched, eager to get you to talk about anything.
"I heard you've been dating quite a bit yourself?" She asked.
"Yeah... it's been a ride. I don't think I should be allowed to date," you said with a mouthful of pasty.
"I heard about Endeavor's house. It's going to be a strange time for everyone," Midnight's big eyes became half-lidded, "Our society was too dependent on All Might, and I think we're suffering for it now. Villains and even random citizens who weren't villainous previously are causing mayhem. It's not even safe to get my hair done anyone."
"BUT," she snapped her fingers together, "Boys? Give me something fun to gossip about."
"Well... I've been trying things out with a-a few? Guys?" You cringed, "My quirk has made things very difficult for me and everyone around me. I thought dating would help me feel better about one person, but it's messed my head up even more."
Midnight gave you a sad smile, "Tell me, who is the best kisser?"
"Kaminari by far," you said, "I'm sure he's kissed half the school to get to this point."
"Who do you like to kiss the most?"
You sat up straighter in your bed. These questions were surprisingly easy when asked.
"Shinso..."
"Who gets you all hot and steamy?"
"Ew," you frowned.
"Okay, goodness I'll rephrase! Who do you think would be an excellent lover, then."
"I can't imagine anyone sucking at it..."
Bakugo would be aggressive in a great way, but maybe too rowdy for your first time. Shoto could be sneaky and surprise you with a little bit of rough and sweet. Izuku... I don't want to imagine this innocent bean?! Kaminari would rock your world, no question. Kirishima would be very complimentary and make your feel good physically and emotionally... You hadn't gotten around to kissing Hawks yet but you imagined he didn't suck at anything either.
Midnight smiled, "Who can you see your first time with? Not just sex - a lot of people can be hot during sex - but who do you feel safe with? Who would make it special because you're connected intimately in every way. Don't think too hard - first name that comes to mind!"
"Shinso."
It felt like a weight was lifted from your chest. The relief was so grand it almost made you tear up. Midnight watched the magic realization showing on your face.
"Does that help?" She grinned.
You nodded, "Yeah... yeah it did. I... should go find him."
"Waaaaait, before my sweet virgin goes running off," she set the suitcase on your lap, "Your costume."
"Monarch got me another one?"
"He said specifically that, while he didn't design it, he's disappointed that he didn't. Because it looked marvelous on you... whatever that means?" Midnight said, "And, that he added a few adjustments."
You weren't sure what that meant either, so you opened the box to see what was inside. As soon as you saw the fabric, memories came rushing back and you weren't sure how to feel about it.
"What is it?" Midnight asked.
"It's... oh, it's just my new costume I mentioned a liked a while back..."
The only people who had seen this particular uniform were the League of Villains, Hawks, and Monarch. He was true to his word and added changes to it, like the color and the type of material, keeping it clean cut. But, it was obvious to you...
Monarch had remade Temptress.
