I loved her. The thought scared me, she scared me. If it was her or Lissa- her every time, I'd protect her every time. She was so strong and yet the need to protect her ran so deep. I didn't know what to do, how to respond and react to the realisation. I'd come so close last night, so, so close to going over the edge, to becoming hers, and she almost became mine. I wanted to write it off as a spell, but I knew she'd find out otherwise. She was stubborn, she always tended to get what she wanted- if she wanted me, I would be powerless against her. God knew I wanted her, wanted to be hers. What would Mama have me do? She'd taught me how a woman should be treated. If I fought the inevitable I hurt the one I wanted to protect.
My phone rang. "Belikov." I answered.
"Hi Dimka."
"Mama! Just who I need."
"Yeva told me about your little Rose problem."
"And?"
"I can't believe my son is considering hurting the one woman he loves. I thought we'd taught you better."
"But she's-"
"Already in pain. You've hurt her too much already. A student she may be, she may be seventeen, but she's your soul mate. Don't push her away, she'll fight and you'll lose the fight. She was made for you just as you were for her. Don't fight it, don't fight her. Hurting her will hurt you- don't do it."
I sighed. "It's not that easy Mama."
"If you're worried about the Moroi, you could always bring her home. Or get reassigned. There are other options, you need her and she needs you. Do the right thing by your heart for once." She hung up.
Great! What now?! I had five minutes before I had to meet Rose. I had five minutes decide.
The decision was taken from my hands when she walked in the gym door. She'd decided. She'd already picked me- I could see it in her eyes.
"Oh, my Roza." I couldn't say no to her. It was wrong, oh so wrong to hurt her. Her face lit up with my use of her Russian name.
"Comrade?" She tried arching a brow and I chuckled at her adorable failure.
"Lock the door, dear." I gave her one of my full smiles and her breath caught. She managed to lock the door and came to join me, straddling my lap.
"Did you really just do that?"
"What?" I asked innocently though I knew what she was getting at.
"Use that 'come hither' voice, call me 'dear', and tell me to 'lock the door'?" Curiosity, humour and interest laced her voice.
"Yes, I did." I pushed her back against the floor, hitched her left leg over my waist. "I did my love, I did." I leaned in and kissed her. The woman was perfect. "I love you, Roza. So much."
