Alberta'sPOV
I looked between the two guilty parties. I'd suspected for a while- probably the entire older half of the ranks had- but I couldn't take action without evidence. But with evidence, I couldn't not take action. It killed me to have to do this to them. They were too valuable- even Kirova wanted her kept here. This was something we couldn't let slide, however.

I feared their reactions, immediate and future. They weren't going to take being split sitting down. And they sure as hell weren't going to stay split for long, either. They were going to fight their way back together, and when they found each other, they were going to run. I could see it in their brown eyes. I could see it in their posture, the way they angled towards each other. I could see it in the set of their jaws and the twitching of their closest pinkies.

Vasilisa Dragomir was about to lose both of her guardians. And I couldn't stop the guilty feeling, thinking that it was all my fault. The guardian ranks were already understaffed, and it was going to be my fault that we lost another two after the rescue two nights ago, and the battle hours prior. I felt it was my fault the ranks were going to lose the two most promising, lethal young guardians.

As much as I had wanted the foolish child- a.k.a Guardian Belikov- to get it over with and do something about pining over a lovesick Rose Hathaway so they would stop being so damn obvious, I hadn't wanted it to result in this. Changes in behaviour? Circumstantial evidence. Kissing? In front of others? While a battle was still being fought around them? Yeah. That was hard enough evidence to have to take action.

"I won't let anything happen to you, Roza," murmured Dimitri in an undertone. Yeah. They were going to run because of this.
Rose cut him a sidelong glare. "Yeah, I've heard that before."
"Rose," warned Belikov.
"You didn't have to kiss me back."
"Be quiet!" I snapped. I hated snapping, especially at those two. Their talking was only making me feel guiltier by the second. "You talking isn't going to help anyone here."
I was met with apologies that I didn't really hear.
"Both of you," I kept from sighing, "go pack your bags. Now. Belikov, meet me back here in ten. Rose, go say bye to Lissa- but not a word why. Are we clear?"
Rose and Dimitri's eyes met, and tears shimmered in both sets of brown orbs. "Crystal." She left the room.
"Belikov..." I sighed to halt him leaving straight after her. "Why?"
I was met with a look of complete and utter shock... and anger. "Why? Really, Petrov? WHY? You really have to ask that? I thought we had made that abundantly clear. I love her. I'm IN love with her. And nothing is ever going to change that. I don't care what happens to me. I don't care how far away you try to send me, I'll find her. I'll always find her. And when I do..." The fire of defiance and protection shone so brightly I wanted to cower. "When I find her, I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe. I'll do whatever it takes to keep her happy." With one more pointed look, he spun on his heel and strode from the room. "You clearly weren't going to." The door slammed shut after him, punctuating his anger and emphasising his determination.

"He's never been so unstable, so uncontrolled," commented Kirova from her spot beside me.
I sighed and raked a hand through my hair while I stood. I needed to stretch my muscles after that inquiry. "Yeah. Well, Rose has that effect."
"But, Belikov? I had hoped even she had standards regarding males."
"Maybe that's the point," I muttered and started making a coffee from the refreshments table's offerings.
"How is seducing her mentor having standards?"
I shot Kirova an incredulous look. "He, wouldn't kiss and tell. He, wouldn't drag her name through the mud. He, couldn't get her pregnant. He could understand. He does understand. He does support her. Because she isn't a game to him."
"I'm calling Lady Ozera. You should consider calling Alder."
"Or we could simply fire him and expel her."
"That works too much in their favour."
"They're going to run, Headmistress. You know they are."
Her sharp eyes narrowed. "Then he can risk charges of kidnapping- harder to accomplish if he has to break her out of a highly-secured school that he first had to find sources to discover which she's being transferred to."
"Don't put it past him to meet her somewhere after she simply drops out on her birthday." Not to mention, there's always Adrian Ivashkov's dream walking for them to communicate through. We have no way of stopping them. Ever.

I was surprised Dimitri still wanted me after all this trouble I'd caused. I don't know where he was transferred to, but I was moved to Alder. Oh, Adrian was going to get a good kick out of that... especially when I told him I was fleeing there, too.

St Vlad's library materialised around me and I knew it was time.
"Little dhampir?"
"Roza!" Dimitri's excited and relieved cry had me barrelling into his arms.
"Thanks for the thanks, cradle robb... Rose? You're not-? Are you?" Adrian's green eyes went unfocused in a way I knew meant he was studying my aura. And maybe also Dimitri's because his eyes then widened in shock then narrowed at Dimitri in something close to anger, or protectiveness. "Only you, you cradle robbing Russian. Only you could leave little dhampir with mini dhampir."
"I didn't leave her!" Dimitri's arms tightened around me.
"Well you certainly aren't with her."
"I'm to blame," I mumbled into Dimitri's chest. "Dimitri got reassigned and I got transferred because we got caught by Alberta, recklessly kissing in the caves."
Dimitri kissed the top of my head. "I'll find you in no time, Rose. I promise."
Adrian snorted. "How?"
"Like this: I'm at Alder."
The royal's jaw dropped and Dimitri grinned like a fool. "I can work with that."
"You mean, we can. I'm eighteen now and they didn't actually put a restraining order on you."
Adrian choked on laughter. "What? I don't believe it. You'd both simply up and leave?"
Dimitri's eyes locked with mine.
We smiled. We shrugged. We said: "Yeah, if that's what it takes."
