DPOV

I followed Tasha into Lissa and Christian's house at Court to surprise Rose for her birthday lunch.

"Hey Liss?" Rose called from an upstairs room. "Which one's cuter? The pink 'Mommy's Miracle' top and black leggings? Or, the 'I'm Daddy's Angel' onesie?!" She continued. 'Mommy's Miracle' top? 'Daddy's Angel' onesie? Say what? "That wasn't an option Liss. It's in the wash!" What was going on? "I can't argue that logic. Thank's Auntie Liss!"

What? If Liss was 'Aunt' then that meant, oh shoot me now, Rose was 'Mom'. So, how old was this baby? Whose was it? She didn't let people in easily, but once she did she didn't let you out. She was insanely loyal and dedicated, and wouldn't take the risk of a child unless she knew the dad would stick around. However, the way she was talking made it sound as though she was a single mother, proud, but a single mother nonetheless.

"Dimka? Any clue what just went on?" Tasha asked as we walked through to the kitchen.

"None." I smoothly lied. And she bought it.

"Aunt Tasha?! Belikov?!" Lissa turned around and exclaimed in surprise.

"It's lucky you honestly had no clue Liss!" Rose screeched from upstairs "Christian! Why?!" She sounded pained, betrayed.

I couldn't help it, I ran straight to her. Rose and pain were a combination that never sat well with me. "Ro-"

"Go! Get out!" She growled at me.

"Look at me. Rose, look at me." She did and my heart broke. "Rose. It's the darkness. Fight it. For your baby's sake, fight it." How much had she pulled in the year since the cabin? "Please Rose." I let all the emotion show.

"Get her away from me. Dimitri, grab her and take her to the kitchen. Valentina, take her away." Rose cried in desperation.

I went over to the basinet and carefully lifted the little, roughly, three month old girl out and took her to the kitchen. Leaving Rose, in the nursery, to battle the darkness alone. As I walked down the stairs the beautiful little bundle looked at me relaxed into my hold. Aww. She was adorable. Then again, she was Rose's so it was only to be expected that Valentina was as beautiful and adorable as her mother. She had Rose's tanned skin, dark brown eyes, and nose, but nothing else. Her hair was a light brown and I could tell it wouldn't have Rose's curls. She was quite, too quiet considering she was Rose's. And the smile that wasn't really one was adorable, adorable but hardly there. She was wearing the 'Mommy's Miracle' outfit.

"Dimka? Why'd you go running to her when she was clearly pissed we're here? And what's with the baby?" Tasha asked as I returned to the kitchen.

"It's called a knee-jerk reaction Tasha. That and I knew it wasn't her, it was the darkness. Rose told me to take Valentina so she could battle it out alone."

"Valentina? Isn't that Russian?" I didn't appreciate the slight sneer that came through Tasha's tone.

"Yes. It is. That tone is unappreciated Tasha. Rose has every right to name her daughter how she sees fit."

"Dimitri?" Lissa intervened. Thank god.

"Yes Lissa?"

"She loves you. Val, she loves you to bits. I can see it in her aura." Liss had a dreamy expression on her face.

"Lissa, what's the dreamy expression for?" I asked, curiosity lacing every word.

"Dimitri! Get your sorry ass and Valentina up here. The darkness is gone."

"Coming!" I called as I returned to Roza.

"Lock the door, and open your mind. You're in for a shock bigger than the ghosts." I did as the only woman I'd ever love instructed.

"Roza?" She gasped at the use of her Russian name.

"Look at her, really look at her. Who else in this room does she resemble?" I didn't need to look at her again to know.

"Me. She's mine? Ours? How? I'm not doubting that- it's plain as day- just, how?"

"Dimitri, it's me, how am I even alive?" I thought about all I knew of spirit.

"The healing from the crash? And/ or the healing's in general?"

"Combination. I'm currently just Lissa's guardian but there's a debate going on in Council over whether or not I'm more Moroi than dhampir. If it's agreed I'm more Moroi then I take Lissa's Council spot," she scrunched her face up before continuing, "and get thrown into throne contention. And Council, Tatiana especially, wants to see a Dragomir on the throne. By graduation."

"Because she's considering changing the graduation age?"

"That's what I'm gathering. She's talked with me over my time away, Spokane, attack and rescue."

"Oh Roza."

"Pass her here," she reached for our daughter. Reluctantly, I released my miracle daughter and her mother took her. "Feeding time miss moo."

"I'll l-" I was going to say 'let you have some privacy', but got cut off.

"You, Dimitri (Daddy) Belikov, will go nowhere. It's just as private with you in here. You're half the reason she exists- remember that."

"Okay." I smiled gently, causing a gasp to escape her lips.

"She has my appetite, just warning you. She doesn't whinge but she has an appetite." She adjusted her top and bra so our daughter could latch and feed.

"Translation: we may be here a while?"

"Exactly. You're trapped." She smirked before flinching in pain, "ouch. Val, do you have to be that strong?"

"Roza?"

"When she latches it's painful."
