"Rose," His voice called out to me for the first time in over a year. I'd been avoiding him like the plague... which he was, kinda, he plagued my head and heart. Because at that moment, as I truly took in his features, any progress I'd thought I'd made in loving Adrian went out the window. He looked so open and vulnerable. I realised he finally had no guards around.
I met his deep brown eyes, getting lost in them, their gentle and tender look. "Yeah?" I didn't have the heart to snap.
"Can I talk to you? In private?" His eyes didn't tell me as much, but I sensed he was scared.
I weighed my options. My tongue ended up wagging before my mind could comprehend and analyse the situation. "Fine. But you'll have to do ward shift with me," I warned.
"I'll do anything," he agreed softly.

The walk was silent for a while. And for once, the silence wasn't strained, wasn't full of hate, disappointment, anger, or heartbreak. It was companionable, comfortable, relaxed. That made my heartbeat pick up slightly... and it scared me.
"What did you want, Dimitri?" I asked tiredly. I hated having to avoid him because he more than just simply rejected me, he'd given up on me. I had just begun to believe I had moved on. But his next words ruined all that for me.
"You were right. Rose Hathaway is always right, it just took forever for me to realise my heart could accept all emotions other than just guilt and regret." He stepped in front of me. "I love you, Rose. I've always loved you, Guardian Hathaway."

I reached up and pulled his lips down to mine. Sparks flew and it just felt Right with him. He returned my hungry kiss as if he was drowning and needed me to live. His hands cupped my face as mine lost themselves in his hair. Slowly his hands slid down my back to mould to my butt perfectly. I tugged on his hair and he growled lustfully while pushing me up against the nearest tree.
"Oh god, Dimitri, I love you," I moaned against his lips, my hands trailing down his abs sensually.
His loving, passionate gaze burned me. "I love you, Roza, so much it hurts."
Our lips fused back together. I pulled his shirt off the next time we broke apart to breathe. I gasped at the sight of his perfectly sculpted chest and arms. I sighed as I remembered the first time I'd seen it. "Oh... that charm..." I murmured against his chest without realising it.
Dimitri chuckled while attempting to free me of my own shirt. "Oh yes, that charm was quite something. But nothing like your natural one."
I looked up at him in absolute surprise and pleasure. "Oh god, since when did you get so damn good at the dirty talk?"
He winked at me- actually winked! "Since you haunt my dreams and have done since the moment I met you, you wonderful woman." He ripped my shirt off.
I growled and pulled him to me by his belt loops. His lips explored every inch of me. One hand gripped the clasp of my bra, the other taunted me by stroking the bottom edge of mentioned bra, his thumb about to slip under.
"Just get rid of it already!" I whined desperately. He didn't need to be told twice.

"Rosemarie Hathaway! What the hell do you think you're doing!" interrupted none-other than my Mom just before my bra went flying.
I groaned into Dimitri's mouth in annoyance. "Go away, Mother!"
"You are on duty," she growled and found my shirt and Dimitri's, then shoved them at us.

Dimitri had done his best to shield me from her view, but it hadn't worked too well. This was Exactly what we'd been worried about at the Academy, focusing on each other rather than duty.
We pulled on our shirts. I ended up back in Dimitri's arms. Much to my mother's displeasure.

"Belikov, what were you doing with my daughter?" she demanded. "Who's involved with Adrian Ivashkov. Or did you Not get the message?"
"Mom, just Stop, before you embarrass yourself."
She shot me daggers. "You should be ashamed, Rosemarie. He just asked your father and I-"
"I don't fucking care what he asked you. I don't want him. I've never really wanted him, Mother." I looked up at Dimitri meaningfully.
"A rebound," he whispered in understanding.
"Oh no," Mom's eyes bugged in realisation. "Please tell me you two weren't inappropriately Involved while back at the Academy."
Dimitri and I remained silent.
"Belikov! She was your Student! Your Underage student!"
"You can't control the heart," he said remarkably calmly. "We tried. I tried. It was too much the night of the attack, the night before I was... turned. She Had to know. There's no way to explain or describe the love and heartache I felt for her before risking everything for her."
Mom looked disgusted, and about ready to throttle him.
"Before you twitch a muscle," I growled at her, "you ought to know he's the Only one I've slept with, and for good reason. I Love Him."
Her eyes bugged. "That's not what Ivashkov said."
"Don't trust him. I don't. I've Always known he wanted my body, and the controversy." Dimitri's arm around my waist squeezed comfortingly.
"Ivashkov's a wimp," Abe's voice sounded as he stepped out of the shadows.
"Nice of you to slither on in into this conversation, old man," I snapped sarcastically.
"Roza," Dimitri cooed in my ear before gliding his arm around the front of my waist to push me behind him slightly, protectively and defensively.
"I can handle him, Comrade. Trust me." I manoeuvred so I was by his side again.
"You are incorrigible, Rose."
"Ah, Rose," loftily addressed Abe. "I see you have a problem with men."
"Abe!" I chastised in horror and offence.
"Ibrahim!" my mother said at the same time.
"What?" zmey shrugged innocently.
"You well know what," I retorted.
"You had better pick between Ivashkov and Belikov- because Yeva's got it in her head you're overdue for a visit."
"You think I need to choose between them? The choice was made for me."
Abe nodded with a cunning smile that meant trouble. Mom was horrified. "I guess Belikov and I have a little hunting trip to take then I'll book you those tickets to see your in-laws."
"They'll be her in laws over my dead body," hissed Mom.
Abe chuckled. "That in-law boat sailed long ago, Janine."
