Mav:You'd really tattle on your dear friends?That's low....

Alice:I'm only kidding.Now then...

Alice held out her basket and smiled.

Alice:...let's have lunch.

Alice revealed the contents of the baskets as Eugeo and Mav eyes shimmered at the sight of the food.

Alice:It's hot today so make sure you eat it before it spoils okay?

Eugeo&Mav:Okay!

Eugeo:This pie is amazing!

Mav:You're cooking skill has definitely improved, Alice.

Alice turned away at Mav's comment.

Alice:Y-you think so?I felt like it was still missing something.

Mav:Well,if you ever come up with new recipes,i'll taste test for ya.

Eugeo:Still, it sucks that we can't take our time enjoying such a tasty lunch.

Mav:*Sigh* I hate the heat.I wish we could stay in winter or any season that's not summer.

Eugeo:Do you plan on using forbidden weather altering sacred arts,Mav?An Integrity Knight from the Axiom Church would show up before you could blink and spirit you away.

Mav:I know......wait,what about ice?

Eugeo:What do you mean?

Mav:What if we used ice to preserve the meal?If we had that,we could take our time!

Alice:Mav,where would we get the ice?

Mav:Uh...

Alice:There isn't any in the market.

Mav:Ugh......

Mav slumped back down and pulled his dagger out as he began to run his thumb on the engravings of his dagger deep in thought.

Mav:Hey,do you guys remember the story about the hero Bercouli?

Alice:Which one?

Mav:The obvious one."Broccoli and the Northern White Dragon."In the story it was described that there were giant icicles in the cave,right?What if we broke some off?

Eugeo:Wait,isn't it Bercouli?

Mav:That's besides the point.

Eugeo:I don't know....

Alice:It's a good idea.

Eugeo:Come on!You do know,don't you?Under the laws of the village-

Alice:The village law forbids any child unaccompanied by an adult from playing in the End Mountains.But searching for ice doesn't count as playing.If it means extending the life of our meals,it will benefit the villagers, won't it?So this should be interpreted as work.

Mav:See?No reason to worry.

Eugeo:Yeah,but going to the End Mountains isn't just against village law, it's forbidden by "that", right?

Mav: "That?"

Eugeo:You know what I mean. The Taboo Index, of course.We can't just violate the Taboo Index,can we?

Alice:Eugeo,this is what it says in the Index. Taboo Index,Book One, Chapter Three, Verse Eleven. "Thou shalt not cross the End Mountains that encircle the Human Empire." By "cross," it means entering the Dark Territory on the other side of the End Mountains.That doesn't include entering the caves.

Eugeo:But-

Mav:Sweet Maker, Eugeo you're such a worrywart. Alright, next day off, we go looking for the ice cave.Sound good?

Alice:Yeah!Okay then we'll meet at the North Gate at 7:00 AM.

Mav:I'll hold you to that now.

Alice:Same to you.

Nighttime crept over the village as Mav dodged the adults before running out of the village to the Gigas Cedar.When he approached the tree,a man walked out from the shadow of the tree.

???:Took you long enough, kid.

Mav:Hey,it's tough being a kid and having to dodge everyone.

???:Heh,guess so.Here.

The man tossed Mav a sweet roll.

???:Midnight snacks are the best,eh?

Mav:You bet.

The two guys sat down and ate their sweet rolls in silence before the man spoke up.

Man:Heard you haven't been hacking at that tree.

Mav:You gonna tell on me or something?

Man:Nah,i'm not like that.I can see your little friend tattling though.

Mav:You mean,Eugeo?

Man:Yeah.

Mav:Honestly,I wouldn't be surprised if he tattled on me one of these days.But he hasn't so I gotta give him the benefit of the doubt.

Man:You've been practicing my techniques with that dagger I gave you?

Mav:Yup!

Man:Alright then...

The man hopped up and walking into the moonlight illuminating his features.Pale skin,ice blue eyes,short white hair and a five o' clock shadow on his face giving off an age range of about late twenties or early thirties.He wore a dark crimson red trench coat with a navy blue button-up shirt underneath.His pants were black along with his boots and fingerless gloves.

Man:So kid,let's get to it.

Mav got up as the man tossed him a wooden sword and he pulled out his own.The two stared each other down before the man smirked.

Man:Come on!

Mav stood outside as the clock struck seven.

Alice:Mav!

Mav:Ah,Alice.

Alice jogged up to Mav carrying her basket as she handed to Mav who took it into his hand.Eugeo came moments later with pouch that came with a sling.

Mav:We all ready?

Eugeo:Y-yeah....

Alice:Mm-hm!

Mav:Then,let us be off.An ice cave awaits us!
