BOOK: Maurice
AUTHOR: E. M. Forster
GENRE: Novel
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Maurice is born into a privileged way of life. Yet conforming and ready to fill his father's shoes, Maurice finds himself increasingly attracted to his own sex. Through various men, Maurice gradually experiences a profound emotions and sexual awakening.
REVIEW: I really liked this book, and thought it was a beautiful tale of self-discovery and exploration of sexuality. The changes within Maurice are so profound and new to him, and it's clear throughout that he has no clue how to handle these emotions which are shunned by society.
I've never really read a story about a homosexual man from this period so this was a really fascinating read for me, and a great introduction into E. M. Forster's work. Maurice is such an likeable character, and his self-perceived isolation from society is really saddening but also interesting thing to read about.
FINAL VERDICT: A short, but highly evocative read. Also it has such a satisfying ending!
RATING: 8.5/10
