BOOK: Beloved

AUTHOR: Toni Morrison

GENRE: Historical Fiction

BREIF DESCRIPTION: Sethe was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but 18 years later she is still not free. She has too many memories of Sweet Home, the beautiful farm where so many hideous things happened. Her new home is haunted by the ghost of her baby who died nameless and whose tombstone is engraved with a single word: Beloved.

REVIEW: I read this book while I was in a reading slump which is why it took longer than expected to get through. But I did enjoy this book, and really loved many aspects of the book including the extremely interesting characters and backstories.

It did get slightly confusing at times, but generally it was fairly okay to keep up with and I found it easy enough to read. There were very creepy parts, and I found the premise of the story and the main plot really fascinating.

FINAL VERDICT: I think I will read this again one day and maybe I'll understand it more than I have now, but I would say it's a really great read.

RATING: 7/10
