BOOK: I Choose To Live

AUTHOR: Sabine Dardenne with Marie Theérèse Cuny

GENRE: Memoir

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This memoir written by Sabine Dardenne recounts her 80 days trapped with one of Belgium's most heinous paedophiles. She was kidnapped on the 28th of May 1996 at the age of only 12, and this is her story.

REVIEW: This was a harrowing read in places, but while the topic is somber and disgusting, there is a sense of hope throughout. Dardenne's strength, her humour, the blunt way she describes what happened to her surprised me, but then again she didn't write the book for pity. She wanted to finally tell her story.

While short, it touched me a lot. That could have been me. That went through my head a lot. The things the monster who kidnapped made her do will forever disgust me, I don't see how anyone couldn't be disgusted by it.

FINAL VERDICT: I think this book is an important read, and I'm glad I read it. It made me question humanity, how something like this could have happened. But most of all, it showed me that being strong is the way to get through even the toughest situations.
