Chapter 42

Summer Morning in June

Jack POV

I wake up early and call Jess

“What do you want? It’s like 8:00 AM”

I chuckle a bit “Get your lazy ass up and come for a run with me”

“But I don’t want to”

“I don’t care, get up”

“Not happening” she mutters and hangs up the phone.

You asked for it. I say to myself. I throw on a pair of black basketball shorts, a gray t-shirt along with my black and blue Nikes and I jog to the Hogan’s house.

A few minutes later I jog up to the front door, ringing the doorbell.

“Good morning, Jack.” Mrs. Hogan says, smiling

“Hi, Mrs. Hogan how are you?”

“Very well thank-you. Is Jess home?”

“Yes, she’s still upstairs sleeping, why?”

“I called her and she said she would come running with me. May I go wake her?”

“She’s your fiancé, do whatever you want” Mrs. Hogan says, laughing a bit.

I smile and run upstairs to Jess’s room. I open the door and run and jump onto her bed.

“Good morning, sunshine” I say and I hear her moan and groan

“Go away”

“No, it’s time for a run”

“It’s time you go home” She mutters.

I smile and straddling her lower back. I lean down and whisper into her ear “If you don’t get up, I’m going to be forced to tickle you”

“If you ever want to have kids, you won’t even think about it”

“Man someone’s a little cranky today”

She rolls onto her back, underneath me “Cranky, no. Tired, yes”

“Why so tired?”

“Went to bed late, I guess”

‘Well, you know what would make you feel better?”

“What?”

“Going for a run and then to the beach with me”

“Can we just settle for the beach and skip the run?”

“But babe, running is fun”

“Yeah, if you psychotic” She says and I chuckle a bit

“Fine. I’ll go for a run and then meet you back here in like an hour?”

She smiles and nods “Fine with me. An extra hour of sleep won’t hurt”

“Oh no. By the time I get back you better be dressed and ready to go.”

“But…”

“No buts.” I say smiling a bit

“I hate you”

I lean down, holding her arms above her head with one hand as the other supports my body.

“No you don’t, you love me” I whisper inches above her lips

“Says who?”

“Says that ring on your finger”

“Touché, Mr. Morris”
