Chapter 27 Thanksgiving Dinner
Jess P.O.V.
“Jack, what time are you parents coming?” I ask as I am scrambling around in my room looking for something to where.
“Uh they said they would be here around 5:00 pm. What time are we eating?”
“Like 6:00ish my mom said.” I say “Ugh! I have nothing to wear!”
“Calm down, you’ll find something”
“You’re no help”
“Poor baby”
“Why don’t you go watch the game with my dad?” I suggest, trying not to explode on him. Jack chuckles
“Okay, okay I get it. I’ll go see if your mom needs help. But….” Jack says and he walks over and cups my cheeks in his hands, forcing me to look up at him. “But you’ll look gorgeous in anything”
“Maybe I’ll wear a potato sack.”
“You’d look great”
“You’re so cliché”
“Yeah, well I could be a total asshole and tell you something else.”
“Good bye Jack” I say and I push him out of my room.
I look around my room, throwing clothes everywhere. Finally, 15 minutes later I walk downstairs wearing dark red jeans, a dark beige sweater with a scarf and my brown boots Picture to the Side (:
“Hey Mom? Do you need any help?”
“No sweetie thanks”
I nod and walk into the living room and I sit down next to Jack on the couch.
“Do you think they’ll like each other?”
“Our parents?”
“Yeah”
“Jess, I’m sure they will get along fine.”
“What’s up your butt?” I ask looking up at Jack
“What do you mean?”
“You sound pissed or something”
“No I’m not”
“Jack, I can read you just as well as you can read me. So what’s up? And don’t lie.”
“Okay, I’m a little nervous about our parents meeting. But I’m more nervous about my brother being an asshole about you and me.”
“What?”
“My mom called before and said she told Tom about me being your teacher and she said that he didn’t take it very well.”
‘What does that mean?”
“It means he is going to rag on you for dating an older guy and rag on me for dating one of my students.”
“I can handle him. Don’t worry about it” I say smiling
“Are you sure?”
“Jack, we have been through a hell of a lot with each other. I can handle your little brother.”
“We have been through a lot in these months, haven’t we?” Jack asks and I smile
“Yup, let’s see. We have the bar incident, you being my teacher, the bazillion little fights that we have had…” Jack chuckles and I smile “The whole thing with you and your brother, the fire, don’t forget the fire. And so on.”
“Wow, maybe you’re just bad luck.”
“I’m bad luck? No, no, no, I have been the only one who has been hurt in this relationship. Maybe you’re the bad luck one.”
Jack chuckles and I smile “Maybe I am.”
“You definitely are, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world” I say and he kisses me quickly on the lips.
“Eww, get a room!” Tom says from the doorway
“I thought your mom told you not to bring animals into the house” Jack whispers and I smile and look up at Tom.
“Hi Tom”
“Hey Jess”
“Jack, say hi to your brother.” I say nudging Jack in the ribs
“Isn’t that Mr. Morris to you, Jess?” Tom says and I sigh a bit.
“This is going to be a long night” I mumble and Jack chuckles
“Very funny Tom. But I don’t think you want me to tell my Dad how I ended up in the hospital last month, do you?”
“Oh!” Jack says and I smile as Tom turns beat red.
“Fine, no more teacher gags. Are we even?” Tom asks and I smile
“Only if you be nice to your brother.”
“You’re not my mother!” He says
“Tom…..”
“Fine, I’ll play nice with Jack.”
I smile and lean into Jack as we sit on the couch. “You’re going to make a great mom one day.” Jack whispers and I smile
“Think so?”
“Oh I know so. I wouldn’t want to mess with you.” Jack says
I laugh a little “Good.”
“Yeah I kind of feel bad for our 4 kids already”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa four kids?” I ask looking back at him
“Yeah one boy, one girl and a set of twins”
“You’re lucky if you get two kids out of me, buddy boy”
“We’ll see about that” He whispers and I smile
“Dinner’s ready!” My mom yells. Jack and I get up and walk into the dining room hand in hand. Everyone sits down and eats an amazing dinner.
xoxoxo
