Chapter 28 Grandkids?
Jess P.O.V
“So Jess. Should I be expecting grandkids anytime soon?” Mrs. Morris asks me
I begin coughing and choking on my ham. I feel Jack rubbing my back as he hands me a glass of water. I smile “Thanks.” I whisper and he nods.
“Ma, I don’t think either of us is ready for kids.”
“Hey, I’m not getting any younger”
“I understand that, Ma. But I guess we will just have to wait and see.” Jack says and I look up at him and smile, my face beat red.
Jack chuckles a bit and wraps his arm around my shoulder as I burry my face in his chest.
“Not funny, Jack” I mutter and he just keeps laughing.
“But seriously, you two are the cutest couple I have seen in a long time.” Mrs. Morris says, smiling. We all clear the table and make our way into the living room. Tom takes the last seat on the couch next to his dad.
“Don’t worry. The floor is fine, but thanks for worrying” I say sarcastically to Tom and he laughs a little.
“You snooze you lose.”
“Are you this mean to all your brother’s girl friends?”
“No, they didn’t stick around long enough for me to mess with them.”
“What about Lisa?”
He shrugs his shoulders “I only pick on the girlfriends that I like.”
“Awe you like me?” I ask smiling and I walk over and hug him, completely embarrassing him.
“Get off me, Jess!” He mutters as I hug him. Everyone laughs as I let go and walk over and sit on the floor.
“Love you too, Tom” I say smiling. Jack walks in and sits behind me, so I am in between his legs, I lean my back against his chest and he wraps his arms around me.
“You better not love him.” He whispers and I laugh a little.
“What if I do?”
“Do you?”
“Is Jack Morris jealous?”
“No! Not at all. I am way better looking than him.”
“It’s not all about looks, Jack”
“But they help.” He whispers and kisses my shoulder.
“Really? Because I think you’re really ugly”
“Then why did you say you loved me?”
“I love your personality.”
“Yeah, alright.” Jack says smiling
“Okay, okay, looks don’t hurt. But seriously, I love you for way more than your looks. You know that right?”
He nods “Yeah you love me so you can get a quick A+ in my class.”
“Jack, that’s not funny” I say and I try to get up, but he keeps his arms around me. “Let go, Jack.”
“Come on babe. I was just kidding around.”
“There’s a fine line between kidding around and telling the truth.”
“Jess, I was kidding.”
“Whatever” I mutter and I look over at everyone else who is talking. My dad is talking to his and my mom with his mom. I feel Jack stand up, I look back at him and he holds his hand out to help me up.
“Where are you going?”
“Come outside with me for a second.”
“Jack, it’s cold outside.”
“Wear one of my seven sweatshirts that you have taken.”
“Very funny” I say and I grab one of his maroon Harvard sweatshirts and he leads me outside.
“Why are we out here?” I ask as I hold my arms close to my chest, trying to keep the heat in.
“I have something for you” He says and he reaches in his pocket and he pulls out a long jewelry box.
“Jack, you really didn’t have too”
“Oh, but I did.” He says “Open it.”
I nod and I open the box and it is a gorgeous long silver chain. I look up at him, a little confused.
“Jack?”
“Jess…I….I…uh”
“Just spit it out”
“I guess what I’m trying to say here is, what are you doing for the rest of your life?”
I look up at him speechless.
“I know you’re only 18. I, myself feel as if I am too young to get married. However, I know that you are the one. You are the one who I want to wake up next to in the morning and be the last thing that I see at night. I’m not asking you to marry me tomorrow or anytime soon. But what I am asking you is will you eventually marry me?”
He asks and he gets down on one knee and opens a little jewelry box containing a beautiful silver ring.
I look down at him and my hand covers my mouth. “Jack, I uh. I don’t know what to say”
“How about a yes?”
I smile and nod “Well of course it’s a yes! I just didn’t expect this, at all” I say and he stands up and hugs me tight.
“Good. And that’s what the chain is for. I know you’re not ready to settle down and everything, so I figured you could put the ring on the chain?” He asks, looking down at me. I smile and nod
“I love you, Jack Morris.”
“I love you too. And thank-you.”
“For what?”
“For giving me about ten different chances”
I smile and pull his lips down to mine. “I’d give you ten more, if it meant you never leaving me.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it” He whispers and kisses me quickly
“That wasn’t a very good kiss; you might wanna try that again.” I whisper with my forehead against his.
Jack chuckles a bit and kisses me again, gently.
“So are we officially engaged?”
“Do you want to be?”
“I mean might as well. You’re stuck with me whether we are or aren’t”
I laugh a little and nod. “Are we going to tell everyone?”
“Let’s wait a little. I don’t need your dad ripping me a new one for proposing to his little girl.”
I smile and nod. “Sounds good to me.”
