Qiu Ling heaved a sigh of relief when it seemed that Jing He had calmed down. Even though he would always accompany him no matter what, he felt that he wasn't good at comforting him. He had tried for so long just now but it hadn't seemed to have had much of an effect. Thankfully, Jing He had managed to pull himself out of his distressed mood on his own. Otherwise, he wouldn't have known how to continue.

The two of them looked at each other but neither spoke a word. Qiu Ling didn't dare to ask about what had happened again for fear of making his beloved cry anew. As for Jing He, he wasn't sure if he should tell him about such a dire future in the first place but even if he did, it shouldn't be now and at this place.

Thinking of this, Jing He couldn't help but look over his shoulder. The demon king had vanished and so had the guards who had accompanied them here. Meanwhile, his family members had arrived at some unknown time, looking up at him questioningly.

Jing He gulped and his hand that was still holding onto Qiu Ling couldn't help but squeeze more tightly. He could explain everything that had happened to Qiu Ling but he didn't think that he could do the same when it came to his family. Even just giving them the gist might be too much.

Jing He couldn't decide what to do while the people at the bottom of the staircase didn't move either. Qiang Yan and Bai Fen didn't want to disturb the two lovers who had finally reunited, instead giving them space to hug and say whatever needed to be said.

As for Rong Su ... he had been staring at them with wide eyes since the moment his son ran past him as if he hadn't seen him at all and he had certainly wanted to rush up and pull them apart more than once. Unfortunately for him, his wife and his brother-in-law had arrived just a step after Jing He, and Bai Fen had unceremoniously grabbed his arm the moment she rushed over, preventing him from taking even a single step. When he complained about that man's shameless behavior, she even hushed him! He truly couldn't understand. It was as if that bastard from the dragon realm was her family instead of him who had been married to her for so many years.

Bai Fen paid no heed to the childish person next to her. She had grabbed him because she knew he would ruin this moment and now that she finally had her son back, she absolutely wouldn't let that happen. In the past, even though she had spoken up, she had still let too many things slide. If she had been harsher with Rong Su and talked to Jing He more to try and build up his confidence in himself, then maybe it never would have gotten this bad. She couldn't change the mistakes from the past but she could ensure that she never committed the same one. From now on, she would do everything she could to let Jing He find happiness.

Seeing that Jing He finally turned around, she glanced meaningfully at her brother so he'd keep the unreasonable person in check, and then let go of her husband's arm. Before he could do anything, she walked up the steps in front of her until she stood in front of Jing He.

She could still see the traces of the tears on his cheeks and his lashes. She didn't look more closely than that and simply gave him a smile. "Oh, child, you're finally back. I was worried about you. How are you doing now?" She naturally believed everything Qiu Ling had told her before but looking at Jing He now, there was no Mark of Wisdom so it seemed that he should indeed be healed. If that was true ... it was their family's luck. She never would have thought it could happen so fast but it was a welcome surprise for sure.

Jing He hesitated but finally nodded. "I am well and I am sorry for worrying you, mother." Yes, even though most of his thoughts had been on Qiu Ling during this time, his family naturally should have been worried as well and while he had seen Qiu Ling, the same couldn't said for them so they should have felt even worse. It wasn't right but he also wouldn't have been able to gather the courage to show himself to his parents before he made his decision and could return to being a trueborn god.

Bai Fen shook her head. "Don't think about it. You ... weren't doing well and needed some time to yourself to come to terms with everything. As long as you are better, it was worth it and I would never blame you."

Jing He hesitated but then nodded. He was grateful that she felt that way but he was afraid that she would be the only one to think so. Well, of course, his uncle was the same but not his father. Add to that that he was about to tell him that he had decided to go against his wishes and be with Qiu Ling ... Oh, he already dreaded the argument that would follow.

He didn't dare to think about it too much but leaned back against Qiu Ling, wanting to feel closer. He was certain was his choice. Even if all of the negative things he had inferred from his first vision came true, he could deal with it. He would feel guilty but he could square it with his conscience. The same couldn't be said about the outcome of his second vision. To make a decision and watch Qiu Ling die ... only someone who had no heart could do that.

Jing He raised his head again, looking at his lover. No matter what, as long as they were together, they could face everything else. He had to believe in that.
