“Come in” I say as I am doing my calculus homework, god since when does math include more letters than numbers?
“Hey honey. Uh Jack just dropped this off for you.” She says and she puts the gift on my bed.
“Thanks Ma.” I say smiling slightly. She nods and walks out. I look over at the package, wondering what it is. I cautiously walk over to it and pick it up. I open the card and it reads
‘My days are dull without your smile.
My heart is bleeding as you are gone.
I know your heart is paining as well.
Honey, give me one more chance.
I am Sorry!
Love Always, Me.’
I put the card down and unwrap the gift. I tear the paper away and what is left in my hand is amazing. I sit down on the floor with my back against my bed and I start flipping through this memory book.
I flip to the front page and it’s all but blank besides three words printed in black pen ‘I Love You’
I turn to the next page and it is full of pictures of Jack and I just being goofy on the day he brought me chocolates and such. The rest of the book is full of pictures of us, together, happy as ever. I can’t help but start crying a little.
The last page is blank besides three small words printed in black ink, ‘I Am Sorry” I close the book holding it close to me.
---------------------------------------------
Days go by and Jack has kept to his word. He has been here a total of four times already leaving candies, the picture book, and lots and lots of flowers. It is finally Friday and I am in the living room when Jack rings the doorbell, precisely at 7:15 PM.
“I got it this time, Ma” I say and she smiles slightly and nods. I walk over to the front door and take a deep breath and I open it.
“Hey Mrs. Hoga…Jess?” Jack asks and I look up at him and nod.
“Hi.”
“Uh hey, how are you?”
“Fine.” I say quietly, looking down at my hands.
“Jess?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m sorry” Jack says and I look up at him and nod
“I know, you’ve been telling me all week” I say and Jack chuckles a bit
“But this is the first time I have been able to tell you to your face.”
My eyes lock with his and I nod.
“Can we talk outside?” He asks. I turn and look back at my mom and she smiles and nods. I walk outside and shut the door behind me.
“Jess, I am so sorry. I completely understand that you have been keeping your space for the past week or so. I was a complete ass. I just ironically, didn’t want to ruin what we had. Lisa means absolutely nothing to me. And I should have just told you that to begin with. It’s just her and I go way back. I thought maybe we could be civil with each other and possibly be friends. I don’t know what I was thinking. You mean the world to me, I hope you know that. I would do anything to be with you….”
“Jack?”
“Yeah?”
“I forgive you.”
