Chapter Twenty-Nine

Start from the beginning

“What do you want, Jack?”

“Don’t go.”

“Why?”

“Because I want you here.”

“Do you?”

“Yeah, why wouldn’t I?”

“Gee, I don’t know. Maybe you’d rather spend time with Lisa?”

“Just drop it; she has nothing to do with us.”

“I have to get home, Jack. I’ll see you in school on Monday.” I say and I turn my car on and drive home, bawling my eyes out every minute of every mile. I get home and walk upstairs to my room.

Monday Morning 7:30 AM

I walk into school wearing a white University of Delaware sweatshirt and a pair of blue jeans with a pair of yellow Vans. I run a brush through my hair and applied a minimum amount of makeup. I walk over to my locker and I see Liv and Mark; and can’t help but smile.

“Hey Guys” I say as I open my locker.

“Hey stranger. We haven’t seen or heard from you in a while.”

“Yeah sorry, we went on vacation over spring break and cell phones were not allowed.”

“Oh uh ok” Liv says as the warning bell rings.

“Well I have to get going. I have gym first period today.” I say as I shut my locker.

“I’ll walk with you. I have health” Mark says. The two of us start walking across the school to the gymnasium.

“So how was your spring break?”

“Oh it was good. Spent most of it with Holly and my family.”

“So you two are pretty serious now, huh?” I ask Mark and he blushes a little.

“Well I don’t know, sort of I guess”

“What do you mean you guess? I have seen the way she looks at you” I say and I nudge him slightly.

“Yeah, well I don’t know”

“Okay, well this is my stop” I say and I walk into the locker room. I skip the whole changing into gym clothes routine and I walk out into the main gym and I sit down on top of the bleachers.

A few minutes later all of the gym teachers walk out followed by the students. A whistle is blown and everyone lines up for attendance and such.

“Alright! Coach Lucas is not here today, so I will be your sub. My name is Mr. Morris for those of you who don’t know me.”

You have got to be kidding me. How is this even possible? He is an English Teacher for God’s sake!

“You! Yes you, sitting on the bleachers. Care to join us?”

I hesitantly get up and walk down to the floor and I stand towards the back of the line.

“Thank-You, Miss. Hogan.”

“Yeah whatever.” I mutter and I slide down against the wall, now sitting with my legs straight out in front of me.

“Alright, today is kickball day!” Jack says to my class. All the guys cheer and the girls moan and groan.

“So everyone get up and divide into two teams. Miss. Hogan, that means you too.”

I look over at him, roll my eyes and stay sitting on the floor.
