(A/n: Hello readers, I'd first like to thank you for giving my book a read and the comments I saw, it gives me the motivation to keep going with this.

Secondly, I'd like to inform you that this will be a long chapter, over 17k words, so it'll take a bit to read it.

And thirdly, there will be mentions of child abuse for a single sentence, so just in case, there's your warning.
Now, back to the story.)

The pelican shifted as it landed, the ramp lowering a minute later. As we started getting out of the pelican, a cheetah intelligence soldier ran up the stairs and saluted us before saying,

Anthro Intelligence soldier: "Alpha Team, I've been sent to inform you that you have shore leave for the rest of the day."

Via then walked past him and said,

Via: "Finally, about damn time."

For the past four days, we haven't been attacking Cerberus as often as we used to, only hitting two other facilities. According to Zero, slowing our assaults will keep Cerberus's attention at a minimum until we engage an actual asset to them. Speaking of which, I haven't seen him exit the pelican like the rest. Stopping at the top of the staircase, I turned around and saw him standing in the doorway between the cockpit and the hold, engaged in conversation with the pilot. I walked over and heard a bit of what they were talking about,

Pelican pilot: "-is the start up, and this button activates our countermeasures."

Zero: "Any clue why they don't put guns on this girl?"

Pelican pilot: "It was expensive to make this thing in and of itself, so they probably got short on budget for the design and finalization."

Zero: "Ten bucks says we leave Brian alone with this bird for a day, he'll put at least three new weapons on it."

They both then laughed, which was weird to me. He simply explained how to improve a pelican and the pilot is laughing? Even after only knowing Zero for just barely a week, he's talking to him like a friend, hmm.

Zero: "Oh, hey Chloe, needed me for something?"

I looked back up and saw Zero looking at me. I turned around and said,

Chloe: "We have shore leave for the rest of the day, so make the most of it."

Zero: "Understood ma'am."

I then walked away and went towards the elevator, forming thoughts on whether Zero truly is doing this for peace or if he's deceiving us and will backstab us at the last second. Getting in the elevator, I pressed the fifth floor button and was prepared to spend my day in the range, honing my marksmanship before moving to the gym and training my body. After a few minutes of hearing the elevator music,

The doors opened, letting me see a group of recruits standing in front of the doorway, exhausted. As soon as they saw me, however, changed their mood from tired to surprised. I paid no mind as I walked past them, going to the range. After walking down the hallway for a bit, I opened a door to my left and walked into a long and wide indoor shooting range. Looking around, I saw that no one was in here, which I didn't mind as I walked over to the ammo desk and grabbed a crate before walking to one of the stalls.
