Sarah's POV

Upon opening my eyes, I found the doctor near the machines, engrossed in examining something. Scrunching my nose, I tried to recollect where I was, and then it all flooded back to me.

II had fainted, overwhelmed by exhaustion. My vision blurred, and distant voices were the only sounds I could perceive.

Amidst the haze, I heard the cries of a baby. I yearned to open my eyes and catch a glimpse of my newborn, to discover whether it was a boy or a girl. Alex's shouts reached my ears, but then everything went silent.

As the pieces fell into place, the doctor's voice broke through, "You're awake. How are you feeling?" She flashed a reassuring smile.

"I'm fine, doctor, just exhausted," I replied in a hoarse tone, my throat parched.

The nurse handed me some water, and the doctor advised, "Good, now rest as much as you can, okay?" I nodded in agreement.

"I'll inform them that you're fine and awake, and I'll check on you later," the doctor assured before leaving.

A nurse entered my room, cradling my small bundle of joy, wrapped in blue cloth.

Just as the nurse began to approach me, the door burst open with a bang, and a frantic Alex stood there, visibly worried.

He spotted me and then the nurse. I offered him a smile before turning my gaze to the ceiling, anticipating his rush toward the nurse holding our child as he would want to see him first.

Surprisingly, he bypassed the nurse and hurried to me, enfolding me in his tight embrace.

I was taken aback; why was he coming to me instead of our son?

Okay, I love him and all but why does he always crush me whenever I find myself in a hospital bed.

"Alex, I need to breathe," I managed to say, attempting to free my face from his hard chest.

"Then stop scaring the hell out of me," he retorted, still not releasing his hold.

I smiled and gave in, reciprocating the hug, inhaling his comforting scent of forest and violets, my favorite. My love for him runs deep, and witnessing his reciprocation never fails to bring a smile to my face, stirring a multitude of emotions in my heart.

After a few moments, the nurse discreetly cleared her throat and reminded, "Ma'am, your son?"

Alex reluctantly pulled away, shooting a murderous glance at the nurse. However, his eyes softened as soon as they landed on the blue-wrapped bundle.

I couldn't help but chuckle at his reaction. Confused, he looked at me, but then a small smile crept across his face.

The nurse passed our son into my arms, and I shifted slightly to make room for Alex beside me. Though he wore a disapproving look, a soft pout from me was enough to coax him into sitting beside us.

I couldn't help but chuckle; he never could resist my puppy eyes and pout. I use it especially when he is being a bit unreasonable.

As my gaze fixated on our son, tears welled up in my eyes. I exchanged smiling glances with Alex, who mirrored my emotions, both of us looking at our newborn with overwhelming love.

"Would you like to hold him?" I inquired, and Alex responded with a mix of uncertainty and happiness.

"I..." Before he could complete his sentence, I carefully placed our son into Alex's waiting arms.

As our son settled in his father's embrace, he opened his eyes for the first time. "He got your eyes," I remarked, smiling at our son. His blue eyes mirrored Alex's, resembling him perfectly, from the nose to those full, pink lips.
