Astonishing Moon Before the Cold Started

Haiku by Charlene Mae T. Belo

Astonishing moon

Before the cold started

Hi, Lady Maia.

From the author:

I read online about haiku and discovered that in Japan, they incorporate kigo as one of their thematic elements in writing. In this poem, I've used two kigo in the first and second lines. First, tsuki, or moon, symbolizes fall or autumn, which I've described as astonishing, invoking a sense of being astonished or feeling fear. The second kigo is samushi, or cold, representing winter. In the third line, I welcome or greet Lady Maia, signifying the goddess of flowers and warmth.

We experience fear during our happy days because we know that afterward, there is a winter season where we will feel cold and gloomy. However, we still welcome and enjoy those happy and warm days before winter arrives once again in our season.
