Chapter Twenty-Three

Start from the beginning

She laughs and blushes a little

“And I’m sorry for treating you like a little kid. It’s just I want you to get better.”

She nods ‘Believe it or not, this isn’t my first concussion”

“Oh really?”

“Yeah, when I play basketball, I go hard!”

I laugh a little “Hmm really? You?”

“Yes me!”

“Do you play for the school?”

“I do” She says smiling. I nod and kiss her forehead.

“I’m going to pick up the sandwiches. I’ll be back in 15 minutes”

She smiles and nods “Be careful”

I nod and walk out and downstairs to my car. I get to subway, order our dinner and drive back.

“Hey Jess?” Can you open the door? I forgot my keys”

A few seconds later she opens the door. I smile as she runs a hand through her hair.

“It’s about time you got back! I’m starving!”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah” I say smiling as I walk past her and over to the kitchen. I grab two plates and two Snapple cans and I walk into the living room. I look down and I see Jess sitting on the floor, one leg out and the other bent. She has a hand in her hair and a pen in her mouth.

“What are you doing?”

She looks up at me and smiles with the pen in her mouth. “Homework”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” She says smiling

I walk over and sit down on the floor next to her; handing her the sandwich.

“Thank-You” She says smiling and kisses my cheek. I smile and nod

“You’re welcome. “ I say and the two of us eat and just joke around for a few hours.

“So what time should I come over for dinner tomorrow?” I ask as I pull into her driveway.

“Uh come over whenever you want. My parents won’t be home until dinner time, anyways”

“Okay, so do you mind if I just stay when I take you home?”

“Hmm, nope that’s fine with me. But you’ll have to entertain my brother while I cook and stuff”

“That’s cool. I love hanging out with him”

“He really likes you, you know”

I smile and nod “Yeah, I’m glad he does. That’s one less person who I have to convince to like me tomorrow”

She nods and smile slightly “Don’t worry, buy my mom some flowers and you’ll win her over. And as for my dad. Just don’t say anything stupid. And tell him the truth. He hates liars.”

“Oh so basically, he hates me without even knowing it?”

“Oh no, he already hates you for some strange reason”

“Jess! “

She laughs  and laughs and laughs

“Jess! That’s not funny!”

She looks up at me and smiles ‘I thought it was very funny”

“Yeah, yeah. You’re lucky I love you”
