Chapter 41:Lost Cause

Present time
I'm sitting on the ground my eyes not leaving his body I'm shaking slightly. I just killed him he's dead and he's never coming back. The knife I used to kill him -my knife- is being held tightly in my bloody hand. I blink for what felt like the first time in years as a tear slips from my eye. I remember what Rick said a day prior to this and I know the answer now we're survivors.

1 day before this
Me, Kasiaya, Carl, Michonne, and Rick are all sitting by a tiny fire me made. Rick is holding a can with water in it with a stick over the tiny fire. He glances over at Carl "how hungry are you on a scale from 1-10" he asks "15" Carl answers.

Rick looks over at Michonne, Kasiaya, and me "28" Michonne says "17" Kasiaya says "13" I say. Rick chuckles at all our answers nodding "yeah" he mumbles "well it's been a while. I'm gonna go check the snares" Rick states standing up.

"Can I go with you" Carl questions "well how else are you gonna learn" Rick says with a smile. Carl smiles standing up "hey you guys too" Rick says looking at me, Kasiaya, and Michonne. We stand up Kasiaya helping me I gain my balance then I kick dirt into the little fire to put it out.

We all start grabbing our stuff and walking towards the snares. We duck under the wire we put up for walkers and I feel Carl's hand interwine with mine I frown and pull away kill him! the voice screams. I stop in my tracks squeezingmy eyes shut as the voice starts screaming those words.

"Cass" I feel someoneput there hand on mine I jump slightly opening my eyes. "You ok" Carl asks with concern i look at everyone starring at me and let out a shaky breath "yea just hungry" i say he nods and we stat waking again. "We'll stay another day or 2 get some more rest" Rick says breaking the silence. "Finish healing up" Michonne asks looking at me and Rick. "I'm almost there" he answers I shrugg "I can walk normally and my knuckle doesn't hurt that bad anymore" I say she nods.

"We're close now right" Carl questions "to Terminus?" Rick asks "yeah" Carl says. Rick nods "we are" he states "when we get there are we gonna tell them" Carl questions. "Tell them what" Michonne questions "everything that's happened to us. All the stuff we've done. Are we gonna tell them the truth?" Carl questions.

It's silent for minute "We're gonna tell them who we are" Rick answers. "But how do you say that I mean...who are we" Carl asks a walker comes into our sight and we all pull our weapons out. Kill it the voice echos

"No I got it" I say walking towards it before it can grab me I move to the side tripping it and driving my knife into its head. I stand up grabbing the tree for support "let's go" I mumble walking forward.

A few moments later
"There you go" Rick says with a smile as we all rush over to the snare. He sighs dropping down next to it "it's a small one it'll do" he says putting the rabbit into his bag. "So this is a simple slipknot" he says Carl and Kasiaya drop next to him as he teaches them about the snare and how to make it.

I look off into the distance letting my mind wander the question Carl asked floods my mind. Who are we? I didn't know anymore before I would say we're a family but not anymore we're just people now with most of our family gone.

"Help!" I hear someone cry making me come back into reality. "Sombody help!" The voice cries again I drop my bag and start running as fast as I can towards it ignoring Rick and the others calls for me.

Save him the voice in my head echos over and over again I get to the edge of the woods seeing the man who was calling for help is surrounded by walkers. My ears start ringing the voice in my head starts screaming at me to save him.

I take my knife out ready to run in there when a pair of arms wraps around my waist pulling me back. My eyes go blurry and my ears are still ringing I can hear muffled voices save him! The voice in my head cries once more before I fall out of consciousness.
