Chapter Seventeen

“Anything?”

“Yes, anything.”

“Okay.” I say and I move over a bit on the bed, and I pat the empty space next to me. “Then lie down with me.”

“Jess, I don’t want to squish you.”

“Oh please, just get your ass down here” I say and he smiles and nods and he lies down next to me.

“I love you” he whispers and kisses my temple.

“Good, cuz I love you too” I say smiling and he puts his arm around my shoulders and I rest my head on his shoulder.

“Good night, Jess”

“Night” I whisper and I fall asleep in the arms of the man I love.

Jack P.O.V.

I pick her up and carry her bridal style out to my car. I throw my dad the keys and I get in the back seat with the love of my life. I hold her in my arms as my dad speeds down to the hospital.

“Jack. I’m tired”

“Baby, I need you to stay awake. We are almost there.” I plead as I look down at her.

“Bedtime” I hear her mutter and she closes her eyes.

“Jess? Jess!” I yell, panicking. “Dad! What do I do?!”

“We are here son, just keep calm.”

“Keep calm? How the hell am I supposed to keep calm?!” I yell as my dad parks the car and I carefully run inside with Jess in my hands.

“Excuse me?! Hey!” I yell trying to get someone’s attention. A doctor runs over

“What’s wrong, son?”

“My…my girlfriend. She got hit and now I can’t wake her up.” The doctor nods and pulls over a gurney. I set Jess down and he takes her off the ER. I sit down in the waiting room. My hands in my hair, looking down at the floor tiles. My dad walks in and puts a hand on my shoulder.

“She’ll be fine, son. I’ve seen this happen many times.” He says “I have to go clock in, but I’ll check on her in a bit, okay?”

I nod and hug my father. “Thanks Dad”

I wait for hours in the waiting room. Finally, around 4:00 AM my dad comes out and tells me that I can go see her. I make my way into her room and I sit down next to her, holding her hand, my head on the bed. It’s now 7:30 am and my dad comes in.

“Hey, why don’t you take your mother and brother home to get some rest? Jess will be fine, I promise.” I nod and get in my car. I drop them off and speed back, picking up a few things along the way. I park outside the hospital and decide that this is the perfect time to call her parents. I hesitantly pick up my phone

“Hello?”

“Hi, Mrs. Hogan?”

“Hi, who is this?”

“Hi, its Jack. Jess’s boyfriend? How are you?”

“Oh hi Jack, honey. I am very well thank-you. How are you?”

“Well that it sort of why I called. You see, Jess was in a little accident last night and is currently in the hospital.”

“SHE’S WHAT?!”

“Mrs. Hogan, I can assure you that everything Is under control. She has a concussion along with four stitches”

“Dear God, how did this happen?”

“It was all a misunderstanding actually”

“Did you hit her?!!!”

“Oh God no! I would never lay a hand on her, Mrs. Hogan, trust me. It was just a stupid misunderstanding between my brother and I. The punch was supposed to hit me. And Jess, Jess was just trying to do the right thing and break up the fight. And she…..she uh stepped in between the two of us just as my brother was about to punch me. I am so sorry Mrs. Hogan!” I cry out on the phone.

“Jack honey, it is fine. Is my baby okay?”

“Yes, I can guarantee that she is fine and resting up in her room.”

“Okay, I trust you that you will take care of my daughter.”

“I will mam. I love her”

“I believe you. Give me a call when she wakes up”

“I will.” I say and I hang up and run inside the hospital and up to Jess’s room. I walk upstairs and I see my dad walk down the hall.

“She’s awake, if you want to go see her.” He says and I smile and nod.

I walk into her room and I see that she is sleeping. I set down the things I brought for her and I walk over and take her hand in mine.

“Jess I am so sorry this happened. It was a stupid fight and it shouldn’t have ended with you being hurt.”

“It’s not your fault” I jump a little and look down at her

“Yes it is Jess. It is all my fault!”

“Jack stop. Okay? I swear, it is okay.”

I nod and kiss her forehead. “Good. But when you get out I am taking you somewhere special.”

“Can you make sure there are no bright lights? They hurt my head”

I laugh a bit. She would be making jokes when she’s the one in the hospital “Anything for you.”

“Anything?”

“Yes, anything.”

“Okay.” She says and I see her struggle a little to move over. She makes room for me “Then lie down with me.”

“Jess, I don’t want to squish you.”

“Oh please, just get your ass down here” I obey and I lie down next to her.

“I love you” I whisper and kiss her temple

“Good, cuz I love you too” she says smiling and I put my arm around her shoulders.

“Good night, Jess”

“Night”

I smile and fall asleep next to the love of my life.
