Owed chapter 2/4

XG 166 - A sword would be much faster than an acidic liquid

They continue watching the monitor, where the guards tossed grenades at the group of zombies, sending them flying or into bits, even if their harder bones make things more dangerous when they went flying around. Although Wong Xue Guo's shadow had cleaned up a large portion of the zombies, there were new zombies running over, attracted by the chaos and alarm.

"Turn off the alarm, but make sure everyone did not wrongly assume that the danger passed. Tell the researchers to back up every piece of information and prepare to evacuate if the front lines failed," Chin Chun said.

"I will go and join the fight," Kang Xunsu breathed out heavily. For once, L.L. did not persuade him to stay inside the base.

"I will go too," Chen Yibo said. He had eaten enough food to regain most of his energy and was ready to fight. He was also worried about Wong Xue Guo, who was right in the middle of the danger without a replacement sword.

"It's still dangerous for you to fight in your current state," Chen YiWen quickly shot down his younger brother's decision.

"I'm feeling fine. It's also better for me to test if my ability works on the zombies." Right now, only a selected few knew about his mind-reading ability, which was useless in battle, but useful in negotiations and politics.

"It's highly unlikely that your ability will work on them," Chen YiWen stressed the words.

"Without testing, we cannot conclude it based on only our reasoning."

"That's correct." Chin Chun's agreement to support Chen Yibo had Chen YiWen unhappy.

When Chen Yibo stepped out of the security room, he saw Seungri jogging over, whose eyes brighten when their eyes met.

"Yibo, do you know anyone that will be going out to fight those zombies? Can you help us find someone to test how these work?" Seungri passed some test tubes filled with greyish liquid. "It's highly acidic, and I want to know if it could melt down the zombie's tough bones."

Although Chen Yibo does not know how splashing the liquid on the zombies would be any faster than stabbing their hearts, he does not want to discourage anyone's creativity. "Got it."

Kang Xunsu sighed. "Luckily big boss had made a large batch of bullets with his metal ability for us before going to Italy, or we will be facing a bullet shortage. Can I make a bonfire? I think boss had brought over some flamethrower..."

"I will have a firefighter team organised," Director Choi volunteered. "Don't worry about saving petrol. We can go out and gather more later... after we survive this."

Following Chen Yibo, Kang Xunsu and L.L were Chin Chun's trusted assistants, a pair of male twins.

When Kang Xunsu met them for the first time, he was very much still a wild 'kid'. In a bad mood, he had naively mocked that the Godson had an eye for beauty and not talent right in front of the twins' faces. He does not know what exactly he was thinking at that time to not expect he would, to a certain extent, suffer from his words.

Indeed, not long later, he was given a very impressive eye-opener event.

Dressed like butlers, down to the white gloves and tailcoats, the twins do not look like elite fighters but elite house management instead. Like their boss, their looks brought down people's wariness of how dangerous they could be.

There were no spare vehicles to drive them to the front gates so they could only go on feet. As they jogged to the front gates, with the exception that L.L. was piggybacking Kang Xunsu, the latter could not resist asking a question. "Why would you two follow along instead of staying by your master's side?" As they usually do. "There should be others under you that can fight right?"

Scot Lang, the younger twin, glanced at Kang Xunsu's missing leg. "That question could also be directed to you, Mr Kang."

"How can I be compared to Mr Chin? I'm just a bodyguard and have no one under my command to fight for me, so I had to step up myself."

"We are under our master's order to protect Miss Wong," Scot Lang answered.

"Why now?" Kang Xunsu asked bluntly. Why not earlier?

"We got information there's a new group of zombies walking towards our base. They are behaving rather oddly, moving very slowly compared to the normal zombies we all know of. Leading them is a dry husk of a woman, resembling a mummy."

"So you are worried that it's something done by an Awakened person sent by our enemy."

"Our enemy is not only the self-proclaimed Lord," the elder twin, Gen Lang, said. Humans themselves often start a war for the smallest reason.

So what was stopping other survivors from taking this opportunity to attack their base?

Scot Lang suddenly took a cap out of nowhere and presented it to Chen Yibo, who was looking at the panicking survivors inside their tents distressingly.

"Young sir, would you like to hide your hair to avoid getting injured?"

His question got Chen Yibo back to himself, pulling him back from the sudden large input of thoughts from people around him. Luckily there was a distance limit for his ability to work, or else it would be harder to deal with.

Chen Yibo accepted the cap, as he had heard some people wondering about him. "Thank you very much."

He was not used to having his view limited, but it was better than being wrongly identified as a zombie. Not everyone reacted fast enough to separately identify a zombie and an Awakened person.

One mistake could fatally injure him if not kill him.

Before they even arrived at the front gates, it was already chaotic with people running around or screaming. There were people trying to kill the zombies but it would not be enough help.

Chen Yibo was the first to rush out to join the fight, immediately pulled out his gun and started shooting.

Those that were fighting were slightly relieved that there were more people coming over to help. Although tired, the knowledge that there would be more allies backing them up stopped their fighting spirit from completely extinguishing.

This was the first time Chen Yibo fought after the Awakening. Compared to his previous state's performance, he found himself to be slightly stronger, with more stamina even when his current self does not feel as if he was at his best, as well as with faster reflexes.

In this situation, there was basically not enough time to reload his gun after finishing one round, and thus he used his sword. It was dangerous to test the acidic liquid on the zombies inside the base, where their allies were around.

He was also reluctant to sidestep the zombies that were already inside the base just to test the liquid, as his avoidance would risk more chances of spreading the infection even further.

Wong Xue Guo's shadow had wiped out plenty of zombies, but there were getting more zombies that were harder to differentiate physically between their own people as they were the newly bitten victims.

He did not forget to use his mind-reading ability on the zombie while fighting and was immensely relieved that he heard nothing. It would be heart-stabbing to hear pleadings to be free, or yearning to be fed. With no thoughts from the zombies, it was a little easier in his conscience to put them down.

When there were no allies within reach, he put a safe distance between himself and the zombies. He uncorked a test tube and splashed the content at the incoming zombies.

When it failed to decay the bones, Chen Yibo changed the direction of splashing the heart. It worked, as their heart was not strengthened at all from the zombification, but it was too much work to do. A sword would be much faster than an acidic liquid.

But it certainly would be useful if someone unexpectedly faced a situation where they had no weapons in hand.
