The unsettlement of the accidental outburst died down, and Sev just looked down at his shoes with this hollow expression. I needed to save the mood somehow... I didn't mean for it to go this way. Without thinking, I pulled out my IPod and hooked the earbuds into it, putting one end in my ear and cleaning the other thoroughly. Once it was spick and span, I held it out for him.
Sev didn't say a word, but gratefully accepted it, and peered at it curiously.
"Oh, in your ear, like this," I explained, gently taking the earbud back and positioning it into his ear for him. My fingers traced along his face for a moment, but I gathered the strength to pull back and smile. I quickly turned on a song with a happy tune, and linked our arms again.
