Chapter 33: Me, Myself, and Time

I just entered this brand new world,
And I'm so open hearted.
I know I got a long way to go but I'm
I'm just getting started.

I'm over my head
And I know it, I know it.
I'm doing my best
Not to show it, to show it.
Whatever it takes to be,
What I was meant to be,
I'm gonna try.
Cause I'm living the dream
And I know it, I know it
I'm trying my best
Not to blow it, to blow it
And I know everything will be fine.

The time finally came for my vacation. Grandma moved into our house. She was sad to sell her old house, but she wanted to be close to family. My parents told her she could have the top floor of our house. We moved the rooms we used to some of the lower floors of the house and they changed the top floor to grandma’s own apartment. I think she likes it better that way. I told them I didn’t have to go on the trip, but they insisted and said I deserved a vacation. I finished packing my bag and mom walked in and sat on my bed.

“What time are they coming?” she asked.

“Any minute,” I replied.

“Sit down with me. I want to talk to you before you leave.”

“Okay,” I nodded and sat next to her.

How are things going with Max?”

“Great, why?”

“Because I can see how much you care about him.”

“Mom, is this one of those relationship and sex talks?”

She laughed, “That’s exactly what this is.”

“Mom,” I groaned.

“Let me have this talk.”

“Okay, go.”

“I can see how much you care about him. I can see it because it reminds me of your father and I.”

“Really?” I smiled.

She nodded, “Your father and I were crazy about each other. We were scared to take that step, but once we did we never looked back. I know you’re probably scared of getting close to him, but I want you to take that step.”

“You do?” I asked.

“Yes,” she smiled, “I’m not one of those parents who is going to tell you to wait until you’re ready and to be careful. If I had been careful and waited I might not be with your father right now. On this vacation I want you to be honest about your feelings for him. I don’t want you to go your whole life being scared because that’s only going to lead to regrets.”

“I’ll be honest, I promise.”

“But I do have to warn you, if you come home pregnant you’ll be in trouble.”

“Mom!” I laughed.

“Promise me!” she laughed.

“I won’t come home pregnant.”

“Good,” we both laughed.

“Do we really remind you of you and dad?” I asked her.

“You do,” she answered, “and it makes me smile.”
