Chapter 16: Got Dynamite

Tell me what you got to break down the walls

You just might need dynamite

Tell me what you got to break down the walls

Kick senseless, my defenses

Tell me what you're gonna do

I need you to light the fuse

Tell me what you got to break down the walls

You just might need dynamite.

“Is Anna here?” I asked Patricia.

“Welcome back.”

“Thank you.”

“How does it feel?” she asked me.

“Great,” I smiled.

“Good. Anna’s in her room.”

“Thanks.”

I knocked on her door hoping to surprise her and she answered after a few knocks. “Why are you kno—“ she started and froze as her eyes locked on mine. “D?!”

I nodded and grinned at her.

“D!” she said again, this time louder. She jumped and hugged me. I wrapped my arms around her too.

“It’s only been a day,” I chuckled, “but I missed you too.”

“How is it?”

“Great, my parents are inviting a bunch of family and close friends over tonight to celebrate.”

“That’s amazing.”

“Come with me,” I told her. “You can celebrate too.”

“It’s not my party.”

“It’s to celebrate me being home. You are my best friend and I would love it if you were there.”

“Really?” she smiled.

I nodded, “I promise.”

“Okay,” she agreed. “I’ll go.”

“Awesome! By the way, I have amazing news!”

“Okay, you can tell me while I gather my things.”

I walked in and sat on my old bed, “What are you packing for?”

“Last night I asked if it was a good idea to stay the night at my grandparents’ house. I thought it would be a good idea to see how I felt being home again and to see how I felt being around them again. Turns out, they thought it was an amazing idea. It will give me an idea of how ready I am to return home.”

“That’s great.”

“Yeah,” she smiled.

“Do you think you’re ready? To return home I mean?”

She shrugged, “I think I might be getting there. It’s hard though. I used to hide food around my room so they wouldn’t know I wasn’t eating and I would lie to everybody about everything. Even if it is a new house I’ll still have memories of what it was like not being supervised like I am here.”
