Chapter 24: Party

You gotta dance til you ache

Til you drop, til you break

Free your soul, let me see you shake

One by one we're stealing the stage

Here we come, so get out of our way.

“I wanna hear it!” Anna told me. “You made me wait an entire day!”

“I’m sorry,” I laughed, “I was just so excited about getting asked to the dance.”

“Sing it to me now! Please?!”

“Okay, okay, I’ll sing it now.”

“Yay!”

I pulled out the guitar and made sure it was tuned before starting the song. I have no idea why I’m so nervous. I also have no idea whether I’ve performed this song for anybody before. It’s not a positive song so I understand why I let it slip by.

I don’t wanna stay strong

I wanna blow up this space,

Kick you to the wall

Cause there’s nothing wrong with me.

It’s my body

I can do what I want.

You can’t control me here,

You can’t control me anywhere.

I’m gonna burn down these walls,

Scream at the ashes

Throw a fit

and run out of sight.

You can’t control me anymore

I don’t wanna be strong.

I’m gonna show you,

I’m gonna show you

Who I am and who I wanna be.

I’m gonna blow up place,

Kick you to the wall,

Scream at the ashes

Cause I’m not gonna be strong anymore.

“It needs a lot of changes. It’s not that great and I’m frustrated with the way I’ve worded some of it, but I like the meaning behind it. The song expresses exactly how I felt when I went into rehab. I didn’t want to recover or stay strong.”

Anna nodded, “I like it too.”

“Will Rosily like it?”

“She’s your cousin, D.”

I sighed, “You’re right. I know she’ll understand because she’s family, but at the same time I’m scared.”

“Explain to her that you’re not showing her necessarily for the album, but you want her to know how you felt in rehab. It would help her to know not only for you, but for the meaning behind her album too. She doesn’t understand what that worthless feeling is like we do.”
