-Chapter 95: I Live This Life
"Are you sure you want to hand over Halo Horizons over to me?" Rei asks me, sounding unsure of my decision.
Gai gave me complete control over what goes on here at Halo Horizons. I approve of the projects and other things around here. He told me I could do what he wants while he provides funding and what not to us. It was his mistake to trust me in that.
"I already have," I answer, staring at my notice I sent to one of the many news places here in Japan. I'm going to topple Gai over and ruin his entire life for ruining my entire life. But first, I have to deal with what is going on in my head.
It turns out I had all my keys on me. Well, I did have them all me before that thing happened. I wanted to kill Aruto when I lost control. Why would I want to kill the man I love and go on with my life?
"Is something going on with you that I should know about?" Rei questions, still being curious about what is going on, and I shake my head. "Then what is bothering you to make this decision. I can't run this place as well as you can."
I was going on about the will of the Ark. But my chip is fine and I've looked at the data again. There are no signs of hacking anywhere. The Ark isn't hooked up to my chip at all and I'm so confused at what is going on with me. What else could it be if the Ark isn't the one doing it? Maybe something hacking it and making it seem like the Ark is doing it? I am just so uncertain of it.
I've looked into all the data ever since I got away from Yua and Gai. I have to make this all quick. I've already done the best part by posing as Kiyoko again. If I end up in the custody of A.I.M.S., I can prevent anymore trouble from me somehow getting my keys back. I won't be able to get out unless someone helps, which no one can. Naki may be out there, but Naki won't do anything to help me at all.
"Does your husband know about this?"
"He is aware of the plans of changing hands," I lie. I have to do this behind his back or else he'll stop me from being able to do this. I can't allow him to let me be a danger to society any longer.
"I see. Well, thank you for telling me about this before going off to see him."
"No problem."
"I'll see you later then, right?"
I nod. "Right," I answer, lying. I am not going to be coming back here ever again.
I posted all about me being a member of MetsubouJinrai member. Of course, I had to post evidence. I used a picture of me and Horobi for it, which was hard to even find. It isn't like I had many chances to get him to let me do that with him. I hate how this has to be, but I feel dangerous.
"Take care. I'll leave you to your office to clean out at some point. Take your time," Rei says. "You're like family to us."
"Thanks." I turn to the door. "I'll be back for my things later."
I'll have to do that eventually. I'm sure I'll end up back home due to bail, but I can't be certain. I'm going to be a flight risk if that happens and they know Gai is loaded. So, they will want to keep me locked up.
"Alright, see you."
I am going to head to the place I told the person at the news place that a big scoop will be waiting for them at and that is ZAIA.
~.~
I enter Gai's office and he stands up, looking me over. He hasn't seen me since the other day. I spent the night at some hotel and used cash to do so. He couldn't find me either due to my chip apparently going down for a moment or two due to a system problem. Maybe that is why the chip acted up, but I can't be too sure.
"Where we you at, Mari?" Gai asks me. "I have been trying to find you all day long." So, the news hasn't posted it everywhere yet, huh? That's good for me.
"I didn't know what to do with myself after freaking out like that, so I went to soul search," I tell him, lying a bit. I did do some soul searching and I came up with this solution. It is too dangerous to do anything else.
"You should have came home. I would have allowed you to have some time alone," he responds, moving around his desk. "Mari, you're allowed to be honest with me. I'm your husband."
I look away from him and nod my head. "I know."
But it isn't that simple. I wanted to kill him. I was going to kill him and everyone around me because some voice told me to. I don't know what took me over at all. That wasn't me out there. That certainly wasn't Mari out there.
"Freeze!"
I turn to the door as Isamu steps into the room with a few A.I.M.S. officers beside him. Yua rushes in, moving around the giant group of guys, and she looks at me. Her eyes then go to Gai and she swallows a bit hard, looking quite nervous about the news she probably has to deliver to him about this interruption.
"They say they're here to arrest Mari on charges of terrorism and a few other charges that have to do with Horobi," Yua states. "I have read through their warrant to get her things and it is valid. They have proof of her knowing Horobi apparently."
I look at Gai and he looks at me, eyes burning a bit. He's pissed and he has every right to be. I have completely shattered his work day. I know he knows that I did it, but he is going to be powerless for a few moments since he can't claim I did it.
"Why are you arresting my wife?" Gai asks, looking severely annoyed. Didn't he just listen to Yua? Or does he want to hear it from the others?
I have interrupted his perfect work day and now he's going to have to come up with a way to get me out of the custody of A.I.M.S. so he can have me back. He's going to have to work really hard on that. I think it will take sometime for him to do that. It won't be easy to fix this problem or I hope it won't be.
"We got notified of someone posting proof of her working with MetsubouJinrai.NET," Isamu tells him, answering the question. "I have no choice but to take her in and talk with her and Horobi. If Horobi can provide testimony that frees her, then she can come home." So, he's going to rely on a HumaGear's words then, huh? Neat.
"So, Yua wasn't lying about you having that? Well, I will definitely be showing up later. Mari, dear, I'll be talking to our attorney immediately and gathering my own evidence to prove that you're innocent," Gai says, trying to comfort me. He knows I did this to myself, but he's going to pretend that he doesn't know that.
Isamu turns to me and clears his throat, looking a bit hesitant. "Mari, I don't want to handcuff you at all, but I have to. Since you are allegedly a part of MetsubouJinrai, we have to use as much power as possible to take you in without any issues."
"You're fine, Isamu," I respond. I am sure he would handcuff me regardless of the charges. "I understand why you're doing this. It is your job and I respect that." It doesn't matter if we're friends or not right now.
I posted enough evidence and handed over enough proof that I'm possibly a member of them. It will be hard to argue that I'm not. I doubt Gai can get these charges dealt with. He's not going to have a good time cleaning up the image I just tainted, but he'll probably manage. He has a lot of resources he can use.
"Should I read you your rights now?"
"No, I'm aware of them. You do not have to tell me." I won't be asking for a lawyer period.
Gai can appoint one all he wants, but I'll always turn it down. Wait...why does no one represent Horobi? He needs someone to speak up for him. I guess HumaGears have no rights really in this world. I wish they could have as many rights as us humans.
"You have the right to remain silent and to have an attorney-"
"I understand my rights. I am willing going to hand myself over to you guys and not cause a problem." I do not want to drag this out any longer. I'm going to go in and let them have me in their custody.
"You are aware that we have to put you in a room with Horobi, right? It is only temporary, but we know a HumaGear won't lie for you when we ask questions. If you lie, he'll fact check it." So, they're using him as a lie detector for no reason? "He is known to be quite honest about things, so we decided it would be best to use him for his truth telling skills." Yeah, sure thing.
"I am fine with that." I want to see him again since I can't do that on my own. Maybe I can ask him about the chip in my head or see if he knows anything about it.
"Here." Isamu places a hand on me. "Turn around, please."
I turn a bit and he places something cold over my wrists. I assume that he is cuffing me now. He is ready to take me in and let the media have their way. Of course, he'll probably get in the way and keep them from snapping pictures.
"Yua, please get outside and make sure that everyone signs a non-disclosure agreement. Pay them off if you have to," Gai orders. "I do not want any pictures or videos of her being lead from here to A.I.M.S. to circulate. I'll handle the employees in order to keep them from saying anything to the media. They will listen to their boss."
"Alright, sir."
He's already going into that mode, huh? He's really going to force them not to say a word. He's really something.
I stare at Gai. "Gai..." I gotta act like I didn't know about this.
"I'll be seeing you later once I am done with my work day." Gai's eyes go to me. "Mari, sweetie, I'll be getting you out. You can count on it." Yeah, no thanks, buddy.
He's so going to get me for doing this and I got to hope that it doesn't involve hurting Aruto. He's too precious to have get hurt and I have to protect him. This is for his own sake.
I won't let that thing touch him if it is controlling me and my body at times.
A/n: This plan...well, we'll see how it ends.
I love how much she is willing to sacrifice for the person she loves the most. Honestly, she's desperate and wants to keep him safe. She doesn't know what else she can do for him.
Gai...yeah, he's going to be hated for the next few chapters. You all will want to force push him off a cliff two extra times (or you be like him and be like one thousand this or that).
Just wait a bit longer everyone. We can make it together and get to where we can see happiness happen. I know you all probably want that and I do too! :D
Mari will get her happiness :')
