Nats POV
She's awake! Relief washes over me as I hear her greet me.
I instantly take her into my arms, "bub!"
She does her best to hug me back. I just soak up the moment.
Soon after, Yelena joins our hug as she wraps her arms around us both. The moment brings me pure joy and we take our time in it.
We do have to move so Spencer can breath. And so whatever injuries she has aren't too bothered. Yelena moves first.
With the excitement, it takes me a moment to notice.. "you're burning up." And the worry comes flooding back.
I move from her grasp, looking at her she looks like a ghost..
"Awe, love. Still think I look good like this?" She smirks at me.
I melt a bit but shake it off. "Spence.. we have to get these blankets off of you.."
"Tasha.. your sister is in the room!" She whisper yells followed by a giggle.
I want to fall in love with the moment but..
"You're delusional..." I state.
"Uh, nope. Pretty sure she's right here. Come closer Lena," she does. Then Spencer pokes her cheek, making Yelena laugh. "Yup. She's really here."
I let my head fall into my hands. She still has a fever, she's paler than a sheet, and she isn't making much sense. Yes, I know that isn't totally uncharacteristic of Spencer, but this is different.
The fever hasn't broken.
I know I should bring someone in.
"Would you like some water, bub?"
"Yes, please! I am parched. Thank you, love" she pulls me by my arm, bringing me to her level where she places a sweet kiss on my lips.
I smile.
"I'll be right back," I muster.
I walk out the door and close it behind me, sliding down until I reach the floor where I lose it.
Sobs take over my whole body.
"Nat?" And then someone has their arms around me, rocking me back and forth. "It's okay, Nat. She'll wake up. She'll make it through." It's Wanda.
"She's awake."
She pulls away just a few inches, taking my hair and tucking it behind my ear. "Well, that's a good thing, right?"
I shake my head 'no.'
"She still has a fever.. and it's bad, Wanda. She looks so pale.. and she's delusional. I don't know what to do."
She once again starts rocking us back and forth.
"Well, we'll get your mom and Tony to take a look at her wounds and make sure they aren't infected. Then we'll be there for her. Okay? But first, you need to make sure you're okay."
I just shake my head again. "I won't be okay until Spencer is. Wanda.. she's my everything. If I lose her, I have nothing."
"Hey, we aren't losing her. She's still here, she's still fighting. And I know seeing you is making her fight that much more, okay?"
I nod my head, accepting what she said because I need to.
"Let's get you both some water, alright? Then we'll get Melina and Tony," she gently starts standing both of us up and walks with me to the kitchen.
As we're getting the glasses of water, Melina enters the kitchen. "Nat? Wanda? What're you doing?"
She tells her so I don't have to. "Spencer is awake but her fever is stronger than ever."
"Damn it. I was really hoping it would have broke by the time she woke up," she places her hands on her face then drags them back through her hair. "I'm going to see if your friend Tony has any thoughts. Is Yelena awake?"
I nod my head and that's good enough for her so she leaves the kitchen.
"Here, drink it," Wanda commands.
I listen. It helps.
I then grab the water for Spencer and go to take it to her.
"Woah. Wait. Let's just take a couple of minutes, okay? Just breath. Keep drinking. Then we'll go back."
At this point I'm pretty sure Wanda is my brain.
Once the water is finished, we make our way back to the room where Tony and Melina are already trying to help Spencer and Yelena is leaning against the back wall spaced out.
"Woah, Tones. I have a girlfriend. And you have a wife. Let's not mix business with pleasure, okay?" It's really hard not to laugh at Spencer. She's funny. But I know it's not just her talking.
"Oh, you wish," Tony teases her.
"My wish was granted when Natasha wanted to be my girlfriend. And with everyday that she hasn't broken up with me."
Okay, but how cute is she?
I feel Wandas grip tighten around my arm and I kind of forgot she was still next to me.
"Sappiest girlfriend award goes to Spencer," Tony says, still trying to keep the mood light.
"Thank you, thank you. I'd like to thank my girlfriend who I gladly simp for, her sister for essentially bringing us together, and her parents for bringing her into this world," Spencer gives a fake speech as she grabs something Tony way using as a pretend award.
"Okay, that's not a toy," he grabs it back.
"I know, it's my award. You just gave it to me and you're already taking it back?"
"You can have it back when I'm done with it," Tony bargains.
"Fine, have your moment to shine," Spencer relents.
It's almost enough to make me forget the severity of the situation.
Almost.
Tony and Melina finish up, giving each other a look before Melina turns to me, "can we talk outside?" Then she turns to Yelena, "you too, Lena."
I glance over at Yelena and am met with the same emotionless stare that she's been wearing since we got here.
But we follow them out.
"We gave her some more fluids, ran an iv, gave her meds. There's no infection. At this point, it is truly up to her. Her body has to fight this," Tony tells us, sympathy dripping from each word.
"I think it would be best if you both stay with her over night. I think if she knows you're there, it will help give her something more to fight for," Melina says.
I let out a long breath, trying to keep my emotions at bay. Knowing Spencer wouldn't want me to hide them and would want to hear them just makes it harder.
"Okay," I nod along with Yelena.
I don't know if either of us will be okay if she doesn't make it. I don't even know if there will be enough of us left to dig ourselves out, let alone the other.
"We'll bring some extra blankets and pillows," Melina smiles before walking off.
"We're all rooting for her. I don't want to lose a friend either," and then Tony is off.
"I'll be right in Yelena's room if you need me," Wanda says before also walking away.
And then it was just us.
Melina came back with stuff for both of us and we took it graciously.
Walking back in the room, Spencer is still awake.
"Love! Finally, you have come back to me. And you brought your lovely sister," Spencer beams.
I smile back at her. "Can't keep me away, bub."
"Who said I was talking to you?" She teases, actually getting Yelena to crack a smile.
I want to make a snarky remark, but I can see what she's trying to do. And I love her that much more for it.
"Now, come on Lena. I've got a spot for you right here," she pats the space to her right, signaling for Yelena to join her.
Lena takes the opportunity and cuddles up to Spencers side, Spencer takes the blanket from her and makes sure Yelena is covered by it.
"Come on, love. I have room for you, too," she waves me over and I happily accept the invitation.
But I slip under the covers with her. "Just let me know if you're in any pain or if I can do anything for you," I tell her.
"Yeah, if you need anything don't hesitate to ask," Yelena confirms.
"I've got my incredible best friend and my phenomenal girlfriend with me. What more could I need?" What a cheese ball.
But, I love it.
"I love you."
She kisses the top of my head. "I love you too. Both of you. You have both brought a joy to my life that I never thought was possible. You have helped me see the good I could do. You have helped me be the person I want to be. I will never be able to thank you enough for that.
"So no matter what, just know that you have made my life a million times better than I deser.. than I could have ever asked for," she speaks like it's her final goodbye.
"Stop. You're going to be fine. You'll be awake tomorrow and your fever will have broken. You are fine," I reiterate, really trying to convince us all.
"I'm trying like anything, Tasha. But just in case.."
"No. You aren't allowed to do that," Yelena cuts her off.
"Okay. How about you both get some shut eye, alright? I know how you both like your sleep and I would hate to think you lost any more because of me."
Then she whispers in my ear, "at least, not because of this."
This girl.
She's rubbing my back, tracing patterns as I'm slowly succumbing to slumber.
I don't want to close my eyes in fear of what I'll find when I wake up.
But sleep is a bitch and it knocked me out cold.
