Spencers POV
After Nat and I finished.. saying goodbye, she really did have to get ready for the mission.
Which, apparently, just about everyone was going on.
Thor and Valkyrie made a trip back to Asgard. Carol went to another planet.. not sure if it was a mission or because things were kind of weird for her.
Some of the others don't live here, so I'm not entirely sure what they do or where they are, but that's not really my job.
Nat didn't really say what this mission was for but it was taking just about everyone left here to go. Peter isn't included. Even though he practically seems to live here, that doesn't count.
So I left her so she could go talk to Fury to go over the final plan and all that shit.
I do have one saving grace though; Yelena.
So glad she's still here. We can do some stupid shit or just watch movies or I don't care what we do because I just want to hang out with her.
Plus, we'll have this whole damn compound to ourselves again. Last time the space wasn't really utilized and I have some ideas on how to remedy that.
But first. I have to find out what she wants to do.
So I knock on her door, "Yelena it's me, your favorite person." I smile and await for her to let me in.
"It's open!"
So I go in. She isn't in her room so she must be in the bathroom.
I make myself feel at home and flop down on her bed.
She's taking a little while so I just start talking.
"So I don't know if you heard, but everyone is going on this stupid mission. It shouldn't take long but I guess everyone needs to go. I don't know what mission could possibly need them all, but whatever."
I pause for a second and don't get a response so I ask, "can you hear me?"
"Yes, keep going, I'm listening," she replies still from the bathroom. But she gets louder at the end so I assume she walked back out into her main room.
"Okay, great. Well that leaves just us to ravage this ginormous building together and I have some ideas on how we can utilize the space. Of course if you want to go out again, we can do that too. I'm open to whatever your heart is telling us we should do."
I finally stop my little speech and sit up so I can see her.
She has a bag on the ground and she's going through some clothes that I'm assuming she took from Nat or she bought at some point while being here. Then she placed some of the clothes in said bag..
Wait..
"Why are you packing a bag? Where are you going? Did you want to go back home? You know you can tell me and I can just pop us right over there."
"Uh, actually, I am going on a mission," she tells me, still looking at the closet.
"Oh. Okay. Well, let me go pack a bag. I'm sure I can take some of Nats stuff because I still didn't get any clothes. I guess I didn't really expect to stay so long.."
"Spencer," she interrupts me gently.
"Yeah?"
"Why would you pack a bag?"
"You said you're going on a mission?" She isn't following the conversation?
"Yes. I know I said I'm going on a mission.."
"Well I'm obviously going with you. I'm not going to make you fly solo. You know I have your back. And I've actually been itching to get back out there.."
She's shaking her head no. Why?
"Spencer. You can't come. You are in no condition to go out.."
"Ah. Actually, I was cleared by Bruce. I mean I did already teleport my girlfriend and my ex girlfriend to get the infinity stone. I think I could handle whatever this is," I say, sure she would give in and let me go with her. Usually she's asking me to.
She lets out a short breath. All dramatic like. "Spence, I'm not going on a solo mission."
"Oh."
"I'm going with everyone else.."
"Oh."
"I'm sorry. I was going to tell you before we left, but I figured you were with Nat and I could pack first," she explains.
I just nod my head, feeling a little hurt that everyone is leaving me by my lonesome while they get to go kick some ass.
"It's all good, Lena. It's your job. And I didn't agree to be an avenger. So I get to stay home and house sit," I say a little defeated.
"Spence. You know I want you to go with us. It's not my call."
"I know. Now that Fury knows about me we kind of have to follow the rules."
"I really am sorry. Maybe I could stay.."
"Hell no. Go out there and kick ass with the superheroes. It's where you belong, it's what you're insanely good at. Go show those old guys how it's done," I give her a genuine smile because I know she is excited to go with them and I'm happy for her.
She gives me a genuine smile back. "You know I will!" She squeals, embracing me in a hug.
I chuckle at her excitement. "Just make sure you and Nat get back in one piece, okay?" I tell her still in our hug.
"I will. And.." she pulls away to look at me. "Maybe you'll think about the avengers thing?"
"I don't know, Lena. You know this isn't really my home. I don't really belong here. I'm not a hero."
"Spencer.."
"It's okay. I get to have the whole place to myself. Maybe I'll explore the city a little bit or something," I say, shrugging off whatever she was going to say.
She just nods her head in acceptance. "Okay. But you better at least come down to send us off," she says with a little more cheer than I think she has.
"Oh, I wouldn't miss it. Have to say goodbye to my girls." I then grab Yelena's bag along with her hand, teleporting us to the main entrance.
"Who said I was ready for that?" Yelena asks with a teasing tone.
I shrug once again. "If not we can go back.." I start to tease back.
"No, it's fine. I have everything and it looks like everyone is here anyway," she gives in.
"Okaaaay., if you're sure."
"I am."
I then bring her in for one more hug, "please be careful." I whisper to her.
"I will be."
"You better. Or I'll have to kick your ass when you get back," we both laugh because I'm just funny.
"Yeah, okay," she backs away from me and I watch her go over to talk to Wanda, who is giving me an interesting look.
Forgot I haven't talked to her since.. whatever that was this morning. Maybe I should talk to her? Or at least go say goodbye?
Just as I'm about to walk over to her, I feel arms wrap around my waist and a chin rest on my shoulder
"Maria, not here. Nat might see," I say trying to hold my smile, even though I know she can't see it.
I am then slapped on the stomach.
"Very funny, Spencer," She says in a not so funny tone.
"Please. You just did that so you could feel me up," I tease. But then I turn around in her grasp and pull her in for a loving kiss which she reciprocates. "I know it wasn't funny, but I am trying to cover my worry with humor," I admit.
She softens a little at this. "We're going to be fine, bub." She assures me.
"I know but.. I won't be there to protect you," I give her my best pouting face.
She chuckles at me. Ouch. "Awe Spence," she gives me a smooch to placate me. "As much as I wish you were going, and even though I'm kind of glad you aren't, you aren't an avenger so.."
Ugh not her, too.
"Ouch. Don't think I could handle it?"
"No! That's not what I meant. I just know that if you aren't out there fighting then you're here, safe," she tells me.
"Hm, that's exactly how I feel about you going. Except I can't keep you safe."
"Well, if you became an avenger.."
I don't get to hear the rest of the sentence.
"Spencer!" Tony's loud voice also saves me from having to answer.
"Yeah?" I turn around looking for him. I find him coming from the common room. And he has a small child with him.
That must be Morgan.
I thought Tony was going on this mission?
He finally reaches me. "Finally, I was looking everywhere for you. So, I have a pickle," he starts.
"Go on.."
"I have to go on this mission," he continues.
"Yes?" I try to encourage him along.
"Well, Pepper has meetings all day today."
"Right?" He is taking forever to get to the point.
"So I was suppose to have Morgan all day.." he then looks down to his daughter. "And since you're staying here.."
"Tony, what are you getting at?"
He brings Morgan closer to me. "Well, I need you to watch her while we're gone."
"I'm sorry, what?" I say honestly surprised.
"I need you to watch Morgan for me."
