Yelenas POV
"Hell no."
"Awe, why not? It'll be fun?" She calls from her room.
We went back to her place, which was quaint. Not a lot of decorations. She lives simply. And no, we're not here for what you're thinking. She's trying to convince me to go to the karaoke bar that she had somehow found in this middle of nowhere town. I don't sing. No way in hell.
I'm looking around at what little decorations she did have, so pretty much just what food she had in the kitchen. "I don't sing, sorry."
She insisted that if we were going to drink that we bring her bike back and take a cab back out. I appreciated the fact she took our safety into account. It was kind of adorable how stern she was when I tried to insist we'd be fine. I eventually caved, knowing her point made sense.
"Hey, if you heard me sing, you'd wish I wouldn't, but that doesn't stop me. Maybe it should. But they play the music loud enough where it doesn't matter."
I am intrigued by the thought of her singing her heart out to.. what would she sing? I still hold my ground though. "I don't know it's not really my thing."
She comes into view by standing in her doorway cleaning against the frame. "Okay. If you really don't want to, we can do something else or I can take you home. Though I do challenge you to just try it. If after one song you aren't enjoying people make asses of themselves, we can leave."
I laugh at the thought. I can't help but smile at how she doesn't push me, making sure I'm comfortable with whatever we're doing. I mean she did go through all the trouble of planning this, it would be kind of rude to not go.
I roll my eyes for affect but I'm smiling so. "I suppose I could give it a try."
"Yes," she throws her hands up in excitement. "You won't regret it." She does the double finger point to me as she backs into her room. She comes back out a minute later, "ready?"
"As I'll ever be."
"Fantastic. The cabs here."
————————
I like the vibe of this place. It has a good energy, and the people all seem to be having a good time. She's holding my hand again to make sure we stay together as she makes her way to a table. She ordered our drinks when she came in.
Once again, they greeted her like she's been here before. I guess she doesn't stay home often.
Not a minute after we sat down, the waitress brought our drinks, winking at Spencer before she left. Whatever, I'm just here to have fun. Though I thinking doing Spencer would be fun.. ?
"So what song do you want to sing?"
"What? No. I did not agree to a song."
"You can't get the full experience if you don't sing!"
"I think I can live with that."
"Fine, but I'm going to sing. You'll be okay here?"
"I'll manage."
And with that she was off to the man in charge, putting word in for whatever song she had wished to sing. She comes back and sits down. "You ready for this?"
I just look at her. But as the night went on and people belted their hearts out, I had to admit I was having fun.
"Okay, so maybe I'll sing with you." The drinks were getting to me, okay?
"Yeah?" The excitement was evident. She's not afraid to show her emotions. I like it. "That's perfect because I signed us both up for the song. And we're after this next group."
This girl. Thinks she's smooth or something. "Mm and if I hadn't wanted to sing?"
"I had hoped. But I wouldn't have made you." I believe her.
"So what song are we singing?"
"Have you heard of the band All Time Low?"
"Uh, I think so?"
"Trust me, it'll be fun."
They called us up by name so I was very confused when I heard them call out, "Yelena and Spencstar!" Which earned a roar from the crowd. The fuck? I give her that exact look. She throws her head back in laughter.
"Don't worry love, it's my stage name!" She shouts over the crowd, wiggling her eyebrows as she pulls me up on stage with her. I guess the crowd knows her stage name.
Soon after we make it on the stage, a familiar song starts to play. I did actually know this song. I just didn't realize who sang it. Leave me alone, I don't get a lot of chances to listen to music.
"Why do all the monsters come out at night? Why do we sleep where we want to hide? Why do I run back to you like I don't mind if you fuck up my life?.." Spencer starts singing her heart out, not being afraid that she most definitely can not carry a tune. Her confidence gives me some as I join her in the song.
By the end of it, we were jumping around, the crowd getting into it with us. We immediately signed up for another song.
I liked that she was able to bring me out of my shell a little bit. I see this friendship, or whatever it is, going far. She has an infectious personality. I couldn't help but be happy as we had a few more drinks and owned the next few songs.
————————
After our tenth song and 8th drink for the night, we took a cab back to her place. Shut up, it's not for that, okay?
Though I trust her driving skills sober, I was definitely glad we switched her bike for a cab. It may have been midnight but we both still had a lot of energy. We're in her room no, again not for that reason.
"Here you go," she says as she hands me a pair of her sweatpants and a hoodie. We both agreed we needed to get out of the clothes we were in and into something more comfortable. Just stop. Nothing like that is going to happen! I'm enjoying her company without any of that.
Going into her bathroom to change so I had her room she calls out, "I don't know about you, but I'm starving. Want some pasta?"
She's hungry already? "Didn't we just have some burgers at the bar?"
I hear her scoff. "Yeah? That was bar food? It doesn't count. I need sustenance."
I laugh. Girl really loves her food. "Okay fine, pasta sounds good. Oh! Wait, is this you cooking for me already?" I tease.
"Is it good for me to come out?" I was dressed so I gave her the okay. She then continued the conversation. "No, this doesn't count. This is just a midnight snack. I go all out when I cook a meal for someone." She smiles. This time the thought of her cooking for someone else doesn't bother me so much.
"Well, then I look forward to that. Hopefully before I have to leave."
Her face drops. "Oh right, forgot you're leaving."
"Hey, I'll still be here for awhile. And I'll be sure to come back to visit."
"You better. I need my singing partner. Your amazing voice helps cover up my horrible one. We're a great duo."
I laugh at her truth. "Don't worry, Someone needs to make sure you pick songs you can handle."
"I'm not going to argue. I shoot for the stars, whether I can make it there or not." She shrugs.
She has started to make the pasta on the stove and I had sat at the bar across from her. "Did you want to watch a movie while we ate?"
"I could go for dinner and a show."
She laughs, "perfect. You can pick out what movie you want. I have them over by the tv or there's stuff on the tv, too."
I walk over so I can browse her movie collection, which is actually pretty extensive. I recognized some of them. "What is Shrek?" There was silence so I look over to her. She has stopped moving and her mouth is wide open. "What?"
"You've never seen Shrek?!"
"Uh no, but I'm assuming I'm about to?"
"Hell yes! That is one of my favorite movies. It's a necessity."
I laugh, continuing to look at her selection of movies. "Okay, if it's that good."
"It is." She deadpans. I don't think I've seen her so serious.
I shake my head, still chuckling at her antics over a movie. "Ya know, I don't think I've seen most of these movies."
"That's it, you clearly need a movication. I know we don't have a lot of time, but I'll get you there."
"You're quite passionate about movies." I joke, but she goes rigid.
"Well, I didn't have a chance to make a lot of friends and I only had so much free time when I was younger. Movies, when I had the chance to watch them, were a great escape from my reality." She speaks softly, opening up to me. I can tell she's sincere and I'm glad she's able to trust me with this.
"I'm sorry. They were all missing out. You're a total blast to hang out with." I try to ease the tension. I don't want to push her any farther, afraid she'd close up completely.
She doesn't. "Yeah, try telling them that. I barely felt human." She mumbles, but then switches gears, plastering a smile on her face saying, "the pasta is done."
It did smell really good for only being pasta. She's dished two plates up and I quickly take them to the living room as she puts the movie in.
"Okay, since we've never watched movies together, you should know I take it seriously. No talking. Unless you want a snack or something."
A snack? We're literally eating pasta right now? I just laugh and agree. She passed me a blanket before starting the movie. I quickly got into it just as much as she did.
————————
"Okay. That was beautiful. True love won, and she saw that she was beautiful all along, not needing to change for anyone. Also, shrek takes down his walls for Fiona and donkey."
"Right! It's one of the many reasons this movie is so great. It seems to be an innocent kids movie, but there's so many levels to it."
"Like an onion?" I question. We both laugh at this.
"Exactly! Thank you. It's a good sign you like this movie."
"I love it. What would happen if I didn't?"
"Well, it would have been nice knowing you but I can't associate with people that can't appreciate the complexity of Shrek." She's completely serious while saying this, so I just raise my eyebrows at her.
She shrugs. "Some people can't handle the truth." She then side glances at me, both of us bursting into fits of laughter. She really is a blast to hang out with.
And that's kind of how the rest of the night went. We talked endlessly, laughing most of the time. It was honestly one of the best nights I've had. And it was just simply enjoying each others company; talking, eating, and watching movies.
I wasn't surprised when the sun started leaking through the blinds and we were still up, talking in the living room.
"So, breakfast?"
"You read my mind."
