My eyes widened.
My body tensed.
My ears flattened.

I was only 15 feet away from the silent predator.
I was too close to the mountain lion to run.
I always had a fear for big cats like cougars and tigers, because, unlike a bear, they're silent, agile, and they won't let your dead corpse go to waste.

I was frozen in fear.
I don't know how to defend myself against this kind of creature.
All I can do is hope I'll live to tell the tale.

I crouched down in preparation.

Then it pounced.

Its claws dug into my shoulders tearing flesh its teeth trying to get through the thick fur of my neck.
I rolled on my side and tried to kick it off with my hind legs.
The cougar's teeth didn't puncture my throat, but it still held on.
My lungs were running out of air.
My sharp claws dug into its underbelly, leaving long scars down the middle of its stomach.
It let go of my shoulders and neck.
The cougar circled me as I got up.
I was shaking and bleeding, but alive.
A sudden wave of courage and strength took over me.

I want the upper hand for once in my life. So I wanna make sure that the cougar bleeds to death.

I pined the mountain lion under me biting on its throat while one of my hind legs awed at its belly.
The cougar let out a roar and struggled to get freed of my jaws. I only moved my head slightly to get a better grip.
It clawed at my chest, legs and shoulders, but I was determined to slaughter this animal.
Its protests got weaker as I bit harder down on its tough, sandy-colored neck.
I held on to its throat till I felt no pulse and the tangy taste of blood filled my mouth.

I gradually let go.
Blood was dripping from my chin. I looked down at myself.
Blood covered my front legs and chest. I tried to catch my breath. At least I killed it.
I laid down to clean my wounds.
Ow. Fuck this hurts.
I let out a pathetic whimper. The adrenaline left my system and all my strength seemed to wash away. The world seemed blurry. I didn't have enough strength to maintain my wolf form, so my body turned me back into my human form. Darkness bled into the edges of my vision before everything turned black.

??? POV
______________

I noticed that the forest was quiet. No singing birds. No squirrels climbing trees. No rabbits hopping around for food. Just silence.
I looked around for food a while longer.
I took a big whiff of the air to find any scent trails.
Is that... blood?
It's fresh.
Maybe it came from a wounded deer and I can have easy pickings.
I followed the scent to a small clearing.
I looked up from the ground.

Oh God.

A blood-soaked boy and a dead-looking cougar laid in front of me.
The boy was unconscious and his body was covered in claw marks. I thought he was dead until I saw a low shaking breath.
I ran to the young man and took off my shirt, placing it on his bleeding wounds.
I picked him up in my arms carefully cradling his body.
"Let's get you some help."
Then I started to carefully walk towards the pack's camp.
I smiled slightly.
Maybe this happened for a reason.
Maybe he'll make a good member of my pack one day.
