Chapter Thirty Six

You know how how everyone in Sebastian's pack kinda not-so-subtly has it out for vampires because of their past traumas? And you know how my father is an overprotective asshole because he doesn't want me to leave him for forever and he's worried I will, so he gets super defensive of me?

Well, when I finally found Diana and opened my mouth to ask for some healing licks, I didn't really put two and two together that it might cause problems. She was working on making a late lunch for the people who were awake in the kitchen, as per usual, since she loved cooking.

She was so busy humming to herself and so suffused with the glorious scents emanating from the skillet that she didn't even catch the smell of blood wafting off me like a cloud.

"Hey, Diana," I greeted, and she lifted a small bare foot and awkwardly wiggled it in greeting, all while simultaneously balancing the skillet in one hand and reaching out to grab a set of spices off the shelf. "I have a favor to ask you, if its not too much trouble."

"I'm pretty busy, kiddo," she hummed back, not even looking at me. "What do you need?"

"Healing licks?" I proffered, and she paused before glancing at me. Her eyes went buggy and she dropped the skillet, whipping around and clutching her mouth in horror.

"Oh, my GOD!" she cried, bolting over to one of the drawers and snatching a rag out of it. Stumbling, she lunged across the kitchen and landed in front of the sink, jerking the water on and suffusing the rag with water before sprinting over to me.

"Whoa, whoa, calm down, its not that serious," I chuckled, but she ogled the intense amount of blood saturating my shirt--which I realized was still ripped thanks to his previous actions.

"Shush," she ordered, pulling my hands away and drawing in a hiss of a gasp through her teeth when she saw the injury. "Jesus, what did you do?"

"You didn't hear the squabble between me and Echo?" I asked, and she stared at me, agape. "How did you not hear it? I figured the whole house heard it since you all hear everything everywhere."

"I had headphones in since Aerin and Bash were going at it like rabbits for most of the morning," she very dryly informed me, and for whatever reason I cackled, which made her scowl. "It's not as funny when you can hear everything, including all the gross wet noises and moans and dirty talk, okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, but still--headphones don't typically block it all out," I giggled, but my laughter halted the second she started dabbing at my throat, which suddenly stung like fire. "Ow... stings a little. Seriously, though, did you really not hear the tantrum Echo threw?"

"Nope, and I'm the only one here aside from Bash and Aerin so I'm pretty sure nobody else did either," she muttered, but all I could do after that was stare at her. She noticed my blank look and decided to elaborate by saying, "they're out helping the human side of the community clean up the aftermath of Hurricane Olga and giving donations to the groups doing all the relief work."

"Nobody's here?" I asked, baffled. "So its just you, me, Echo, Sebastian, Aerin, and the other vampire, Sarah?"

"Yepper. Even my wife is out helping, being the Boss Butch Bitch that she is," Diana murmured, wincing upon pulling the rag back--which, to my horror, was saturated with way more blood than I'd thought. She moved to the side and pushed my hair up, bending down a bit to see the nape of my neck.

"What about Tiffany and Woody?" I asked, trying to ignore the blood. "And the babies?"

"Tiffy and the kids went home to their cottage earlier this morning," Diana absently informed me, pushing a strand of her honey brown hair behind her ear as she peered at my neck. The tips of her tresses brushed her shoulder as she leaned close, and I found myself transfixed by the fine strands of pretty golden brown glistening lusciously under the light. "Woody stayed behind to help the rest of the pack with the relief work out in the community but he made sure she went home."
