Emily and Guidry had gone back to the office and we had begun our routine for after school practice.
"Wait, weren't y'all gonna show us what y'all worked on today?" One of the line members, Addison, asked.
"Oh— yeah, we can." Reagan responded to her.
"Ellie, can you get the music?" Reagan asked our Social Officer Vice-President.
Ellie walked over to the phone that was plugged in to the aux cord and we got into position. All 8 of us in a straight line at the back of the room, facing the back.
She pressed play and we performed the choreography we had made up. We only had up to the first pre-chorus.
When we started dancing, Emily and Guidry slipped back in. Emily in leggings and one of our practice tops. I still performed the moves, even though I knew some more provocative dancing was coming up and I knew Emily would be watching me. In fact, her watching made me go harder. The girls on the team cheered for us when we did our tricks. We had a front aerial, a raiz, and have a planned turn section with a side aerial out of them. While the music still played, Reagan and I practiced the turn section into the aerial.
When we landed the aerial, I showed that I landed it, then collapsed to the floor.
I heard giggles escape and heard Guidry say "If y'all can all get that turn sequence, y'all have the entire category in the palm of your hands."
"We can all do it." Dakota chimed in.
"I wanna see." Guidry smiled and the girls all cheering for us to show them as well.
I groaned loudly which received Guidry to playfully kick my thigh.
"Up. Let's see it." She leaned down and tapped my leg 4 times.
I sat up, adjusted my turner straps behind my heel and stood up. I did a practice double to test the grip I had. I shook it off and nodded, standing in formation. Reagan in front, Dakota and I in the second row, Colby, Annie, and Emma in the third row, and Mallory and Chelsea in the back behind Dakota and I. Music started and we tried to count the turn section to it, but we couldn't find the sweet spot, so I ran over to the phone and skipped through the music, stopping a few seconds before the right music played. We prepped and began the sequence. 5 seconds, hold 2, 3 more seconds, into a quad pirouette, 3 more seconds, into a fast triple pirouette, and finally come out in the side aerial.
"Wow." I heard Emily's voice.
"Yes!! Y'all have it." Guidry shrugged.
"Oh, and we have a suggestion for our team lyrical." Reagan said.
"It's kind of mostly for Alaina, but she said she doesn't want it for her solo." Dakota chimed in.
I watched Guidry and she smiled shyly at me.
"So then it's really sad, huh?" She looked at me.
I nodded and looked down. I didn't dare look at Emily.
"Let's hear it." Guidry nodded.
I walked over to the phone and clicked on I Miss Her by Jessie J. She has a lot of great songs and she's Dakota's favorite female artist, so we've been forced to listen to her songs. We really liked Domino by Jessie for our team jazz, but we decided it might be too much Jessie J with our officer jazz and our team lyrical.
The lyrics started and I set the phone down. I went and sat down by Dakota as everyone listened to the music.
Guidry started marking moves to the song and Emily watched me.
"Your turns looked literally perfect today." Dakota said to me.
"Thank you." I smiled at her.
"How do you think Ms. Parker is going to do?" She asked as she set her arms in her lap.
I shrugged and said "Honestly, I didn't know she even liked dance."
Dakota smiled and remarked "That's surprising."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Y'all just always talk and you seem like you— like— are close to her." She explained.
"Oh yeah, I guess that just hasn't come up." I shook my head.
She shrugged one shoulder and looked to Guidry when the music ended.
"I like it. Let me see what I can work with, but for now, everyone up! Set for strut." She demanded.
We stood and the line members lined up on both sides of the dance room, the military officers in a 'V' shape toward the front. This week was a kick routine.
Emily sat on the floor in the front and Guidry stood on a chair in the back. Now that we have 2 directors, we will definitely be as clean as ever.
My hip started slightly hurting after I threw that last side aerial. I had problems with the hip before, but I had stopped going completely full out for 2 weeks and it was fine, but it's back.
As I stood in position for our opening pre-dance, we call strut, it started throbbing.
I tried to shake it as the music started and danced, but when we did our jump split at the end of strut, I felt it pop, but I got up just like everyone else. I walked to our formation and waited for the music to start.
I peeked a look at Emily as I moved my leg to help my hip not feel so tight, but she looked up as soon as I moved, so I just let my hip hurt.
The music started and I danced through it. 2 1/2 minutes of pure pain.
When we ended, Guidry said "That was good! Run it again."
I stood up and limped over to her.
She jumped down from the chair and caught me with one arm.
"What's wrong?" She asked, her arm under mine, her hand holding my elbow.
"Strut!" Guidry called and pressed play on the music.
"It popped when we did the jump split. It's never done that and it's never hurt this bad." I pressed my fingers into the inside of my hip, in an attempt to alleviate the pain that was shooting from the outside to the inside of hip and down my leg.
"Let's get some ice." She nodded.
She guided me to sit in the chair and she disappeared. The music for strut ended, so I took the phone and pressed the field music and let the girls run it again.
Emily was watching me, even though she should've been watching them.
Guidry appeared a moment later, ice pack in hand, and squatted next to me.
"Did you stretch good?" She asked.
"I thought I did." I nodded.
"You were turning a lot, we should've restretched you after that." Guidry spoke to me.
"I thought it was healed." I groaned, slumping in the chair.
"Maybe you should see a physical therapist for it." She suggested.
"No, I can't afford it right now. I'll be fine. I will just stretch more and use icy-hot." I shook my head.
"Baby, this isn't something small. What if you tore a muscle?" She tried to talk sense into me.
I shook my head and said "If it gets worse, I'll go."
"I think you'd be better off checking now, instead of letting it worsen, but it's up to you." She shrugged.
"I can't ask my mom to do that. She is already paying so much. Our apartment, our cars, the bills, my dance, food for the house, and just so much. I can't add to that right now." I shook my head.
"Let me see if my friend will see you. I don't want you to really hurt yourself." She squeezed my knee.
I nodded in response and pushed the ice into my hip. It made it feel a little better, but the pain was deeper than I could reach.
She called for a water break and Emily came over to me.
"What happened?" She asked me.
"Lainey has had problems with her hip before, but she heard it pop, so we're sitting out until we see a physical therapist." Guidry explained.
"You okay?" She asked, running her hand through my ponytail.
I looked up at her and shook my head.
Her hand flattened on my back and she knelt next to me.
"I'm just frustrated." I looked at her.
Her thumb rubbed my side and she stood back up.
"Who is she going to see?" Emily walked away from me to the phone and asked Guidry.
"I have a friend who I'm hoping will see her for free." Guidry nodded.
"Free?" Emily asked.
"Yeah, just—" Guidry shook her head.
Emily looked back at me with sad eyes.
I opened my legs and tried to see how far I could stretch them, but any type of movement with that leg hurt my hip.
I rolled my eyes at the situation and pushed the ice deeper.
"She's tough, but this hip thing is getting to her." Guidry told Emily.
I looked at the pair and Emily now had her back to me.
I feel like that was on purpose. Her outline was perfect. Her butt perfectly round and full, her legs perfectly accentuated, her body was the perfect hour-glass shape. I scanned her body over again, admiring her lines, then she turned to me again, and I quickly looked away.
This hip is going to make me very frustrated with Emily, because she is very sexually demanding and this hip isn't going to allow me to do the things I usually do.
"Hey dude, you okay?" Dakota appeared in front of me.
"No, my hip is messed up again." I groaned.
"You want my icy-hot?" She asked.
"Yes please." I accepted.
Maybe if I use the icy-hot, I will feel good enough to finish practice.
When she returned, I took the tube and started with a small amount. I turned my leg out, moved my spandex, and massaged in the gel. I took a little more and applied it.
It worked a little, so I decided to push it, despite what Guidry advised. I did, however, just mark the splits and left leg kicks and tilts.
