Chapter 13

After an awkward breakfast considering what Aubrey almost revealed we all got in Audrey's car to go to school.

Aubrey sat in Jason's lap. They have been getting close lately.

Jason put his arms around her and pulled her close.

She started crying.

"Shh Aubrey." Jason said.

"I'm in so much trouble. Is he going to burn me or beat me?" Aubrey mumbled as she cried.

"He won't hurt you. I promise Aubrey." Jason said stroking her hair.

"I told the secret. The secret. You're not supposed to know." Aubrey said hitting his chest.

"Be strong and stop crying!" Audrey yelled.

"Audrey-"

"Jason I swear to god if you spoil my sister." Audrey said gripping the wheel tight.

"Audrey calm down." I said grabbing her shoulder.

Aubrey cried harder.

"Aye aye Aubrey you know I don't do that crying crap." Audrey said.

"Audrey go easy on her." Jason said.

"Jason she's knows me. No babying no tears I don't do any of that crap point blank period." Audrey said.

Aubrey stopped crying.

"I'm sorry I got your shirt wet." Aubrey said.

"That's ok cupcake." Jason said pecking her forehead.

Aubrey thanked him and cuddled into him more.

After we arrived at school Audrey was quiet and not her normal self.

"Audrey come on you want to ditch again?" I asked.

"No." Audrey said.

"Ok. We're doing whatever you want." I said firmly.

"Hey baby girl." Jay said.

"Hey Jay." I said.

"Audrey are you ok?" Jay asked.

"Yeah I'm fine. Let's just get to class." She said. We nodded but I saw fear in her eyes.

Audrey's Pov

"Hey." A guy said.

"Yeah what do you need?" I asked.

"Are you ok? You seem kind of scared." The guy said.

"No I'm fine. Thank you." I said.

The guy just nodded.

Why does he care?

At lunch I snuck away from Jay and Alexa to call my sisters school.

"Hello who's this?" The woman asked.

"Audrey James. I'm the guardian of Aubrey James." I said.

"No it says Chris James is the guardian." The lady said.

"Ok how is Aubrey doing?" I asked.

"Well she's sitting in my office for fighting." The lady said.

"What the hell do you mean by fighting?!" I yelled.

"Please lower your voice. She punched a student and she might be get an in school suspension." The lady said.

"Why did she punch the kid?" I asked.

"She said the kid was bothering her." The lady said.

"He was!" I heard Aubrey yell.

"Give Aubrey the phone." I said.

"I don't-"

"Give my sister the god damn phone." I gritted.

She quickly got off the line and gave it to Aubrey.

"Aubrey. What were you thinking?" I asked.

"I was thinking that he was bothering me and I punched him that's what I was thinking." Aubrey answered.

"Hey cut the smart mouth out or I will come down there and slap some sense into you." I said.

"So people bother you and you fight." Aubrey said.

"Don't do what I do. Do what I tell you to do." I said.

"Your being a hypocrite." Aubrey said.

"I'm not being a hypocrite. I don't want you to make mistakes I make ok Aubrey?" I asked.

She sighed.

"Ok. But I'm not apologizing." Aubrey said.

"Fine. I love you." I said.

"Love you too Audrey." Aubrey said.

We hung up and I walked out of janitors closet to see the guy.

This looks weird.

"Hi." He said smiling.

"What?" I snapped.

"You care about your sister." The guy said.

"Yeah so what?" I asked grabbing him by the shirt.

"I like you." The guy said smiling.

"What are you smiling about?" I asked glaring at him.

"I can't smile at a pretty girl?" The guy asked.

"Shut up." I said walking away.

"Let me take you out some time. To have a little fun." The guy said grabbing my hand.

"I don't even know your name." I said.

"I'm Jake." He said.

"I'm-"

"Audrey." He finished.

"Yeah. Just Audrey. I gotta go." I said.

"Hey can I get your number?" The guy asked.

"How do I know I can trust you? Is this the part where you hurt me? Or do you play me? What are you trying to do?" I asked.

"I just want to be friends with you." Jake said.

I looked him in the eye and I saw sincerity but I ignored it.

"I don't trust you." I said looking him dead in the eye.

"Where do you sit during lunch?" Jake asked.

"With my two friends Jayden and Alexa. There a couple. Or at least they act like one." I said.

"Ok. Come on." Jake said. He grabbed my hand and I froze.

"What?" Jake asked.

"You're holding my hand." I said.

"Uh yeah come on." Jake said continuing to drag me.

We got to the cafeteria and I saw Jayden and Alexa chatting. Then Jayden leaned over and kissed her nose making her blush.

We sat down.

"Jayden Alexa this is Jake. Jake those are my two friends Jayden and Alexa." I said.

"Interesting Audrey. You brought a guy." Alexa said laughing.

"Shut up. I told you I don't do guys. I only do friends." I snapped.

"Ok. Ok." Alex repeated laughing with Jayden.

Jake looked hurt but I couldn't lie to him.
