Frustrated, Sasuke raked his hands through his hair and went back to his room to think; leaving his elder brother to stew in peace.
Months later...
She was wrapped in his arms, exhaustion creeping into her bones while her muscles ached deliciously from their wild lovemaking. She yawned against his chest and he pulled her tighter while placing his lips on the top of her head. His pale skin was warm and slightly damp from sweat under her gentle touch as she tantalizingly traced his bare, yet toned muscles. Her lips pulled into a tired, soft smile. She wished it could always be like this.
Just the two of them, in perfect bliss.
He gave her one final squeeze before releasing his grip and rising from the wayward sheets, untangling their limbs as he went. Her lips pulled down slightly when his back faced her and she watched him pull on a pair of black sweatpants in silence. He seemed distracted tonight, more so than usual and it worried her. 'Is he having second thoughts about us? Would he tell me if he was?'
Sakura tugged the blankets up, pulling them to her chin and chewed on her lower lip. Finally, she couldn't stand it any longer and tossed them aside, sitting up slowly and swinging her sore legs over the edge of the king-sized mattress. Ignoring her slight discomfort, she looked to her left and reached over to a discarded silky robe that was two sizes too big for her but wrapped it around her body nonetheless; suddenly uncomfortable with being so bare in front of him.
Though she shouldn't have been given all that they had done together. Sasuke'd seen her at her most vulnerable and still decided to pursue her, much to her dismay. She was new to this whole 'mated to a werewolf' thing (an alpha male at that), but swore to herself that she'd do her best to try and make things work... for him. Sakura knew from her readings and her research that both wolves and werewolves alike were social beings and thrived on both mental and physical contact and connections of their pack.
With her mind officially made up, and after a soft sigh and a quick inner monologue that consisted of a brief peptalk, she carefully approached him from behind.
His body language was suddenly tense, his hands fisted as he glanced out the window into the abyss. She walked up to him, but he ignored her and she tightened her grip on the oversized robe hanging from her small frame. Sakura placed a gentle hand on his large shoulder, squeezing it in an attempt to soothe him and gain his attention. His skin twitched beneath her fingers, but that was the only sign she received that he even knew that she was there next to him. Her pink brows drew together. "Hey, what's wrong?"
His jaw ticked and his obsidian eyes narrowed at the darkness. Sakura felt her heart begin to pound as worry and anxiety set in. If he was this irritated over something, it must be something serious. He growled. "They're coming." She looked out into the night beyond the glass, but could see nothing with her naked eye. 'Stupid human vision.' She swallows nervously before licking her suddenly dry lips.
"How long do we have until—"
He quickly cut her off; his voice a deep grumble. "Not long. Maybe five minutes at most."
She ran her hand down the full length of his arm and shivered, her fingers closing around his fist. She remembered something he'd said to her not long ago, about how his parents wanted to find him a 'suitable mate who would bear his many children'. Maybe if she were to conceive a child they wouldn't hate her so much. Her mouth ran dry at the idea but her belly quickly heated with desire. She heard him slowly inhale a deep breath, skin twitching beneath her touch. This wasn't really the time or place to be considering this, but they may have no other choice. "One last try," she questioned, almost shyly.
She watched as he closed his eyes and snorted, his nostrils flaring slightly. "I'm not a 'one-pump chump', little flower." Sasuke's hand relaxed in her palm and he slowly linked their fingers together before giving her hand an affectionate squeeze. "Besides...," he growls. "You won't take immediately. It would take at least a few weeks before we would know for certain if you were carrying my child. By then they might—" He cut himself off and turned towards her, reaching over with his other hand to caress her cheek before brushing away a single, stray tear she didn't realize had fallen with his thumb. "I'm sorry, Sakura. I think there's nothing we can do now. We've tried almost everything. I think... it's over."
She felt her body begin to shake with anxiety as the sounds of the forest began to quiet down and new sounds began to arise as their enemy approached. "Is there nothing... nothing we can do?" She pleads with him, her eyes meeting his with a mixture of fear and desperation. "Please, Sasuke. I... don't want to lose you again— Not after everything we've already been through." Sakura's voice cracked pathetically and she stopped herself from going further; trying to calm her growing fears. There was a brief... fleeting despair that crossed his features before he glanced out the window again. Sakura saw the tick in his jaw start anew before Sasuke looked down at her again, though seemingly more determined than ever with what she hoped was a plan to aid with their escape.
"Do you trust me?"
"Yes," she concurred without hesitation. He nodded at her before quickly releasing her hand.
"Gather your belongings, little flower. Quickly. Just the essentials though." She turned and grabbed her backpack from the couch, tossing in the things that she couldn't live without, before closing it tight. Her lover was already standing at the door of their hotel room, waiting for her. She tied the robe around her the best she could after slinging the backpack over her shoulders. With his hand on the knob, he turns towards her; his expression severe. "Do exactly as I say, love. Do you understand me? No complaints... no arguments. Got it?"
His alpha tone came through and even though her mind told her to instantly contradict him... to argue the point that she isn't his to demand and command things of...she closed her mouth tightly and nodded. This wasn't the time to argue and fight with him over frivolous, petty matters. This was the time to act as a gentle, respectful, and responsible Luna would; in order to save them both.
Stumbling from the hotel they closed the door softly behind them and he motioned for her to follow him. Silently she obliged his every command; the couple sticking to the shadows as much as possible as the sound of large and imposing footsteps approached. She clung to the back of his hastily tossed on t-shirt as he guided them to safety with deadly precision... as any predator would.
Once at the edge of the forest on the opposite side of his kin, he handed her his bag and moved behind a large tree to shift. Only a few seconds had passed before his wolf came around it with his clothes firmly clamped between his sharp canines. Sakura stuffed the outfit hastily into his own backpack and slung it over her back alongside her own. He lowered to the ground onto his belly, allowing her to climb onto his back almost effortlessly. He stood and she tightened her grip on his fur as she shifted into position. Once he felt she was secure, he took off into the night just as the sound of broken glass reached their ears.
He was fast, probably the fastest wolf in his pack, and she dug her face into the scruff of his neck; not daring to look back, for fear of what she might see. She had no idea where they were going, but there was one thing she did know and that was that she trusted Sasuke with her life. He'd take care of her.
He'd make sure that she was safe and right now that was the only thing she could truly believe in.
