y/n left for just a minute to put the empty popcorn bowl in the sink, and after returning from the kitchen, she watched in amazement as he was in the same exact uncomfortable position that she had left him in.

y/n smiled, and returned to her seat, this time with no popcorn bowl to hold awkwardly in her lap. she stretched out and stretched back, getting more comfortable than before.

with her head on his chest, y/n could feel jay breathing peacefully as he watched the movie in front of them.

she jumped as the doorbell sounded, making jay wake up too. he was about to get up, but she stopped him, putting a hand on his chest.

"stay as you were jay, i'll check it out."

he gave a reply of incoherent mumbling, and turned back around to go back to sleep.

y/n checked her reflection quickly in the mirror next to the door, and after straightening out her skirt, and composing herself, she opened the door.

for a second she had forgotten that she was staying at her boyfriend's, and not her own place, so she was surprised by the face she saw.

"oh hey y/n, i was wondering what jay was doing, but i guess i have my answer."

"what's that supposed to mean, heeseung?" she crossed her arms.

"nothing, nothing," he scratched the back of his neck. "tell him i said hi."

y/n shuffled, before closing the door on him, and walking away.

as she found her way back into his arms, jay asked her "who was that?"

"heeseung." she replied, already cradled on his chest.

"oh yeah," he whispered softly, his voice deep from fatigue, "i forgot to cancel our boys night plans."

"is that so?" y/n poked him in the chest. "you really cancelled that for me?" she batted her eyelashes pretentiously, the sarcasm painfully evident.

he groaned in reply, and pulled her closer. taking a blanket from his side, he wrapped her up, cocooning her in his arms. in that, she would clearly find her answer.

letting her body move with his breaths, she let the soft movements lull her to sleep. peppering her face with sweet little kisses, jay gazed at her features, and admiring them all one by one.

looking outside, he could see that the sun had set long ago, as moonlight beamed through the blinds in slices across the room. it wasn't as late as it had been before, but with the knowledge that they had the next day to spend together again, jay was barely keeping track of time.

after y/n's breaths had slowed down, jay told himself to stay up just a little longer. y/n always rang him in the middle of the night because of her panic attacks; and jay would try to soothe them. although he wasn't the best at it, he was determined to try—after all, he was the one who suggested the phone calls much to y/n's discomfort, and he was going to now try tonight, in person, when it inevitably came.

jay was almost dozing off when a damp patch of his nightshirt stopped him. he heard her quiet sniffles, and almost automatically cuddled her more.

by the time y/n had woken herself up, jay was watching her carefully, and already prepared to help her. in the days before, he had learned several lullabies to sing and play on his guitar (which he had stored in the cupboard across the room for easy access), and read countless articles on calming others down.

he listened to her every word, and let her fall into his arms. y/n was shaking, incessantly weeping as jay brushed her hair out of her face. incoherent mumbles fell from her mouth, and jay just pretended to understand, interjecting with the odd 'yeah' or 'uh huh'.

"would like me to play you a song, baby?"

he heard a faint reply, not being able to make out her words. although he took it as a 'yes' and collected his instrument.

strumming softly, and singing just above a whisper, he had hardly gotten to the chorus of his song before he saw that she had gone back to sleep. he put the object down on the floor in front of him, carefully, as to not wake y/n and gently laid her back down so that she would wake up aching.

for jay, it was just being himself, but for y/n, it was being attentive that made her fall deeper: there was no greater comfort than being loved so selflessly.
