"it's not too short of a dress is it, jay?"

"do you feel comfortable in it, baby?"

"not really."

"well then we'll go straight home after so you can change, it's just that i don't want us to miss out on food."

y/n snuggled into his side, as he took off his hoodie and wrapped it around her waist, giving her some confidence.

it was y/n's birthday, and her loving (although clingy would also fit) boyfriend jay had taken her to her favourite restaurant.

the pair were sat in the corner, secluded because he knew she liked that.

and everything he did it seemed like he did for her.

"i hope this is a good enough present for you y/n," jay spoke, his eyes glazing in the light.

"anything is a good enough present, but i love this, and i love you," y/n responded, fully engaged in his thoughts.

"to be honest i've been so busy with schedules and i haven't even had any free time that i haven't spent with you.." he rambled.

with confidence coming out of nowhere, she leaned over and kissed him, just a peck, and smiled as she shyly returned back to her seat.

"jay you seem in a daze."

"i'm just dazed because you're so beautiful, all the time."

y/n knew that he'd said that just to fluster her, but it still worked nonetheless. she was indeed flustered, even if she had just flirted back seconds ago.

jay moved his feet to play footsies with y/n, kicking his feet to interact with her, but not with too much strength, as jay was a gentle boyfriend.

y/n giggled, trying to kick back, but her flats started falling off.

those moments where nothing special happened were the moments that solidified the love they shared, for they both knew that if they could spend time together doing nothing, that it was each other's company that mattered.

and jay loved spending quality time with y/n; days between the sheets giggling and hiding from each other, standing still holding each other to feel the warmth of their embrace, and times like these, feeling her energy and connecting with her.

and she loved it just the same, because she loved him.

soon they had finished eating, unfortunately, because as time passed y/n knew it was getting closer to the end of their date.

the pair stepped outside, bearing huge smiles despite knowing their time was almost up, and simply walked with each other in silence to jay's car.

as they settled in jay turned on his special playlist, of songs he had written and chosen for her.

y/n was too excited, screaming with all of her might she sang:

"i'll give you my lo-lo-lo-love, i'll give you my love."

to which jay smugly replied:

"i'll be your boyfriend."

y/n continued, screaming at the top of her lungs:

"i'll give you my blo-blo-blo-blood.."

jay switched off the music.

"baby calm down, i'm your boyfriend yeah we get it, but seriously you're gonna hurt yourself singing like that! you're not even breathing, and i want you to have enough oxygen to not pass out."

"you know, oxygen is overrated."

"hm.." jay hummed "..and why's that darling?"

"because when i'm with you i don't even breathe."

"i don't believe that for a second," jay chuckled, reaching out to touch y/n's hands.

true to her word, y/n became breathless at this action, and although she had been dating jay for a year, she still couldn't stop her heart from exploding at his every move.

"you do make me breathless though," y/n admitted, nervously choking on her words.

"and you the same."

"as if," she said, flipping him off.

he chuckled, struggling too much to find a comeback.

although y/n may have thought this, she didn't see his legs fidgeting as a sign of this, or his bitten fingernails, which he had started nibbling on moments before she arrived.

she didn't see how he smiled in every mirror with her to check if she was really by his side, nor did she see his crossed fingers each time he asked her on a date.
