"don't be such a bore, y/n."

"just because i don't want to catch cholera, doesn't mean i can't have fun. if you don't want to drink from that scummy water fountain either, you need to apologise to me for even suggesting that," she retorted, crossing her arms and looking over at sunghoon with disapproval.

"tick tock, pretty boy."

sunghoon took off his blazer, and rolled up his sleeves. leaning on the metal of the dispenser, he gagged from its wretched smell. "fine, if i have to."

he turned on the small handle, and cupped the water that was gushing out, before pressing it again at his lips, in view of y/n.

"see! now you owe me."

y/n looked up at him, disappointed but also impressed by him. for once, he didn't seem like the pompous boy she saw him as. perhaps she was the one always too arrogant to be friends.

he took her backpack from the floor, and slung it over his back, beginning to walk off. however, seeing y/n stood shell shocked in one place, he turned back to her, and reached out to close her gaping mouth.

"follow me, i'll take you somewhere where there is no room to be scared. i'll be happy if you just prove that you are no princess."

she followed him out of the building, shivering from the frost. he held her hand, and guided her to his car.

"i hope you don't plan on getting us killed," she said, motioning to the sports car.

"maybe," he mysteriously replied.

he brought her to his special place: the skate park. it was his way of forgetting about his perfect life, and experiencing a thrill, alike to flying.

taking off his jacket, he walked over to a group of three boys and two girls, speaking to them about something y/n just couldn't quite hear.

he returned with two skateboards underneath his arms: one a dark pink, with black stencilled details, the other a dark green.

"which one do you want?" he asked, throwing the boards up in the air, whilst raising an eyebrow.

"i'll take the green, it's smaller."

"whatever you say," he replied.

holding out his hands to help y/n feel comfortable on the wooden board, he slowly moved her around, before letting her try pushing off for herself. unfortunately, too much.

she was, by no stretch of the imagination, bad. at least she was dressed for it though, with tough material to cover her knees, and her hair tied back, away from her face. at least she could see where she was going, even if she didn't end up there.

but, determined to make sunghoon eat his words, she tried again each time she fell, and now felt courage to try a ramp.

y/n trekked to the lowest ramp, positioning the board on the edge, and letting gravity help her along. she felt the wind ripple through her clothes, before feeling her hands contact the gravel, cutting deep.

she heaved herself up, hoping no one saw, and tried again. this time, she pushed herself off with a lesser force.

she fell on her arms as the board slipped forward, cascading up and down the other ramp in front. as she braced herself for the impact again, the ground felt softer, and she wondered if it was this warm last time she fell.

sunghoon lifted her up, stopping the skateboard from rolling way by putting his foot out to catch it.

"woah, you're not good enough for that yet, princess."

"just watch me," she replied.

she tried again, with even less force, and flew down the ramp with ease, but becoming unstable as she lowered. bending down, she steadied herself and carried on, making it to the top of the higher ramp.

y/n looked down, somewhat shocked at her altitude and skill, to see sunghoon staring at her with envy. she looked behind him to see his friends, observing the two of them, and talking amongst themselves.

y/n skated back down to sunghoon, before taking his hand and leading him away from the park.

"i wasn't expecting that."

"me neither," she joked. "but i've had my fun now."

sunghoon nodded in agreement, and took the board off her, taking her to his group.

"y/n is it? i'd love to give you some private lessons, if you want to come back," the tallest boy said, after taking back the board from his friend.

"beginner's luck," sunghoon told him, through gritted teeth. "you'll see her next week not even able to go a metre."

"she had skill, sunghoon. i think you just don't want to admit it."

sunghoon exhaled, with his fingers pinching his temple. "whatever we're going, bye guys." he waved.

"wait, y/n, can i have your number first? for lessons."

sunghoon turned around, and shouted in his face, "fuck off, don't even go near her," before taking her away, escorting her by his side to his car, which was parked across the street.

he opened the door for her, and asked her to get in politely. by now, his anger seemed to have phased out.

"am i really that bad?" y/n croaked, arms crossed, and refusing to look at him, instead looking at a cat in the nearest house.

"no." he spoke.

"you're an idiot," she replied, moving her body further away from him.

"i'm a damn jealous idiot," he replied, looking over, and now noticing how she wasn't even looking at him.

"that's no excuse, and it still makes you an idiot either way."

"i know, and to think i thought you were the princess."

"damn right." she leaned on the door, just wanting to get home.

"can i just go home now?" she asked, looking at him, and noticing his teary eyes.

"can i still call you princess?" he rubbed his nose, cursing himself to stop tearing up.

"i mean you will either way," she remarked, "you'll do whatever regardless of what i say."

the car was turned on, and they drove in silence, down the main road, past their school, and towards the roundabout.

"so where's the princess' castle?" he asked, trying to mask his guilt.

"that way", she pointed down the road. "but i can walk from here."

"what sort of a prince would i be if i made you do that?"
