jay was walking back to his dorm, wondering what to spend his much-too-short twenty minute lunch break doing. normally, he would go to sleep in his breaks, but there was too little time for that today.

a buzz came from his phone, which he gently took out of his jean pocket, seeing a text from his manager asking him to do a solo vlive soon.

perfect timing, he thought, now with an idea of how to pass the time. jay was a spontaneous person, taking each second as it came, with this being no different. he had a policy of no regrets; to do things as they came up, to not let the time pass by idly.

passing streets full of couples on his walk, he began to wish he could have an open relationship like them, instead of hiding his profile to be more popular. he felt it was a shame that his good looks had to waste the days away in his dorm, especially when he imagined how good he would look in matching couple outfits.

as he reached the dorm, he opened the door to a loud, energetic, and rather sweaty ni-ki, seemingly bounding towards jay, who was unfazed.

"yo bro! have you eaten anything yet? i'm gonna do a vlive mukbang, have you cooked anything?" he asked.

"yes, but not for you," ni-ki shrugged, and walked out towards his bedroom, a controller in his hands, which seemed out of place if it was anywhere else.

jay raised his eyebrows and cocked his head to the side—that boy truly didn't mush his words, he was something of an oddity.

nonetheless, jay headed to the communal fridge, finding a can of cola and a packaged salad; one of many stacked up, since the boys were all often both lazy and exhausted when at the dorm. their fridge was restocked every fortnight, but rarely anything fresh. the salad could barely be counted as fresh, it looked organic enough, until you ate it and consumed it, the vinegary preservatives masking the real taste of any vegetables, the floppy leaves masking the real texture of any vegetables.

jay missed when he would cook meals for his family, setting the table and all, but he had adjusted to his lifestyle as an idol easily, it being almost everything he wanted and more.

jay switched on his phone, setting the table with his quick lunch, and shouting to any members around that he was going to go live.

the live started, fewer people than last time had joined him—but to be fair half the world would be asleep at this hour.

as usual, he asked for questions to flow in, answering that he had just come from the studio, and that ni-ki was there too. but there was one comment, of course, that caught his attention.

his girlfriend had joined and commented 'if you read this be my boyfriend for five seconds.'

"sure, i love you, 3, bye baby, 1."

jay loved that he could do this, even though no one but them would know the truth; that was the magic of it.

it was her idea, she had done it once after seeing someone comment it, and jay laughing at it. he had skimmed over it a few times, unable to comprehend the courage that some people possessed. she remembered how uncomfortable he looked, and could tell that he wasn't alone in his room, him looking for reassurance from the faces on the walls like a deer in headlights; or more specifically an eagle in studio lights. jay found it fun at first, before realising just how many 'girlfriends' he had now had.

she recalled to herself how she could see the clockwork moving inside his brain each time he began to slow his speech, flustered by his own fans. she loved his laugh too, happy to see him laugh at the jokes for a change.

after he had seen that she was present (and actively commenting), he could not wipe the smirk from his face, and every minute, he anticipated a reaction from her.

she fed into jay's ego, obviously. she had to give him attention, she was his girlfriend after all.

he read each of her comments, ranging from her asking him what he had eaten today, to asking him to take his shirt off, even though she knew he wasn't allowed to—and wouldn't, either, for that matter.

after the first few minutes, ni-ki appeared, and joined jay. the inquistive—nay, nosey—boy took the device from its position on the table and began scrolling through the comments, both new and old. seeing her username, he poked jay in his side, ushering him to look and confirm what he had seen.

jay didn't know whether to be embarrassed or play it cool because ni-ki had busted him. ni-ki leaned back in his chair, cockily leaning his head towards jay. luckily, he didn't have to choose what approach to take with his little brother, as the end of his lunch break approached.

he said goodbye, as did ni-ki, with a cheeky grin, and turned off his phone. as he was getting up from his chair, ni-ki teased him, "be my boyfriend jay. take your shirt off jay, i want to see your sexy abs. what did you eat today jay? i love you jay, ooh."

perhaps ni-ki was jealous that jay had a girlfriend, perhaps it was because her boyfriend was him.

jay didn't see ni-ki slump into his bunk, open his phone, and look at y/n's photos with jay. jay didn't see ni-ki's disheartened, jealous, and scowling look. ni-ki couldn't help what he felt though; he was but a pawn in the hands of the gods; his emotions were all over the place.
