~ (Episode 18: Something Wicked ) ~

(Dean p.o.v)

We were cruising down a random country road and we were trying to work out about the coordinates that Dad gave us.
"Yeah. You probably missed something, that's what." I told.
"Dude, I ran LexisNexis, local police reports, newspapers, I couldn't find a single red flag. Are you sure you got the coordinates right?" Sam questioned.
"Yeah, I double checked. It's Fitchburg, Wisconson. Dad wouldn't have sent us coordinates if it wasn't important Sammy." I told only for him to get frustrated.
"Well I'm telling you I looked and all I could find was a big steamy pile of nothing. If Dad's sending us hunting for something I don't know what."
"I've got no clue." Kat added as she looked through some papers.
"Well maybe he's going to meet us there." I suggested.
"Yeah. Cause he's been so easy to find up to this point."
"You're a real smart ass you know that?... Don't worry I'm sure there's something in Fitchburg worth killing." I stated.
"Yeah? What makes you so sure?" Sam asked.
"Cause I'm the oldest, which means I'm always right."
"No it doesn't." Sam told.
"Yeah Sam's right, it doesn't." Kat added.
"It totally does." I countered as I glanced back towards the two before looking back at the road with a little grin.
As we cruised down the road, we passed the sign for Fitchburg, population 20,501.

We were at the Fitchburg Main Street and Sam was leaning against Baby while me and Kat crossed the road heading to him, and I held two coffees while Kat held a hot chocolate in her hands.
"Well...the waitress thinks the local freemasons are up to something sneaky but other than that no one's heard about anything freaky going on." I explained as I handed Sam his coffee.
"Dean you got the time?" He asked not really taking his eyes off of whatever he was watching.
"Ten after Four. Why?" I told looking at my watch.
"What's wrong with this picture?" He asked making us look to see a deserted playground with only a lonesome child climbing around.
"Well that looks depressing." Kat admitted.
"School's out isn't it?" I asked.
"Yeah. So where is everybody? This place should be crawling with kids right now."
'Strange.'

I walked over to the woman sitting on the park bench reading a magazine, and I began to speak.
"Sure is quiet out here."
"Yeah, it's a shame." She told confusing me a bit.
"Why's that?" I asked.
"You know, kids getting sick, it's a terrible thing."
"How many?"
"Just five or six but serious, hospital serious. A lot of parents are getting pretty anxious. They think it's catching." She explained as we both watched the little girl playing all by her self.
'This is really not good.'

We entered the county memorial hospital to see what was going on with all the children, and as we got closer to the reception desk, Sam was panicking.
"Dude. Dude I am not using this ID." Sam told making me smirk as Kat tilted her head to the side in confusion.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because it says 'bikini inspector' on it." He told making me smile.
"Does it actually?" Kat asked making Sam show her. "Oh you getting kicked out for sure."
"Don't worry she won't look that close all right? Hell, she won't even ask to see it. It's all about confidence Sammy." I told before spinning him so he faced the desk and me and Kat kept walking out of sight but made sure we could still hear.
"Hi. I'm Doctor Jerry Caplin, from diesease control." He told.
"Can I see some ID?" She asked making me snicker and Kat gave me a slight smack to stop me as Sam threw me a dirty look.
"Yeah of course." He told before quickly flashing the ID. "Now could you direct me to the pediatrics ward please?"
"Okay well, just go down that hall, turn left and up the stairs." She told making him nod before heading towards us.
I couldn't stop grinning towards him as he was giving me a major bitchface as he approached.
"See. I told you it would work." I pointed out.
"Follow me it's upstairs." He stated before leading the way.
"Sammy's mad." Kat joked making me laugh as we followed him.

As we walked down the corridor, I couldn't help but look into a room we were passing. I noticed there was an old evil looking woman sitting in a wheelchair. As I continued to watch, she slowly turned her head to look towards me and I saw she had an inverted cross hanging on her wall.
"Dean!" Sam and Kat called making me head towards them again and I couldn't help but glance back towards the room.

Soon we were walking to a hospital corridor with a doctor who was handling all the cases.
"Thanks for seeing us Dr Heidecker." I told.
"Well I'm glad you guys are here, I was just about to call CDC myself. How'd you find out anyways?" He questioned.
"Oh some GP, I forget his name, he called Atlanta and musta beat you to the punch." I lied.
"So you say you got six cases so far?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, five weeks. At first we thought it was garden variety bacterial pneumonia. Not that newsworthy. And now..." he trailed off.
"Now what?" Sam and Kat asked as one.
"Kids aren't responding to antibiotics. Their white cell counts keep going down. Their immune systems aren't doing their job. It's like their bodies are wearing out." Heidecker explained before a nurse joined us.
"Excuse me Dr Heidecker." The nurse spoke getting his attention so she could hand him some forms to look over and sign.
"You ever see anything like this before?" Sam asked.
"Never this severe."
"And the way it spreads...that's a new one for me." The nurse added confusing us.
"The way it spreads?" Kat asked.
"What do you mean?" Sam questioned what we all were thinking.
"It works its way through families. But only the children, one sibling after the other." The nurse explained.
"You mind if we interview a few of the kids?" I asked.
"They're not conscious." She admitted.
"None of them?"
"No."
"Can we, uh, can we talk to the parents?" I suggested since we might be able to activate Kats psychic powers.
"If you think it will help." Heidecker told.
"Yeah. Who was your most recent admission?" I asked.

The father of the recent kids was sitting on a chair that was against the wall as we stood in front of him.
"I should get back to my girls." He stated.
"We understand that, and we really appreciate you talking to us. Now you say Mary is the oldest?" Sam questioned.
"Thirteen."
"Ok. And she came down with it first right? And then..."
"Bethany, the next night." He confirmed.
"Within 24 hours?"
"I guess. Look I already went through all this with the Doctor."
"Just a few more questions if you don't mind. How do you think they caught pneumonia? Were they out in the cold, anything like that?" I asked.
"No. We think it was an open window." He stated.
"Both times?" Me and Kat asked as one.
"The first time I don't really remember but the second time for sure. And I know I closed it before I put Bethany to bed."
"So you think she opened it?" Sam asked.
"It's a second story window with a ledge. No one else could have." He pointed out.
'How troublesome.'

We were walking back down the corridor when Sam broke the silence.
"You know this might not be anything supernatural, it might just be pneumonia." He suggested.
"Maybe. Or maybe something opened that window. I don't know man, Dad sent us down down here for a reason. I think we may be barking up the right tree." I explained.
"Something does seem wrong. The way it's working isn't exactly normal in the health department." Kat added.
"I'll tell you one thing." He told making us give a confused look.
"What?" The both of us asked as one.
"That guy we just talked to? I bet it will be a while before he goes home." He pointed out.
'Guess it's a start.'
