"Killed." Ino nodded solemnly at her before leaning back in her seat.
"Just... think about it. Okay, Sakura?"
"Yeah sure, I'll think about it. I think I'll go for a run...," the pinkette said as she stood.
"Need some company?" Sakura smiled at her, but shook her head as she slung her purse over her right shoulder.
"Not this time. Luna needs time to herself. But I appreciate the offer." Ino nodded in understanding before rising up to wrap her friend in a tight embrace.
"Just know I'm here whenever you need me. I will always be with you."
Minutes later...
A white she-wolf raced through the thick underbrush, huge paws slapping the earth beneath her as her lungs seemed to burn with liquid fire. 'Are you done yet?'
'No, just a little more.'
Sakura cut the conversation then, allowing the mourning wolf her space while she contemplated what she should do. She didn't want to stay with the pack, not if she had to watch her mate flounce around with another woman on his arm. It would continuously break her until she was a shell of her former self. But she also knew that she couldn't go rogue because everyone would be after her then. Not just her pack, but the entire wolf council. That left one option... Ino's suggestion. But how on earth could she run an entire pack with no mate to share in the responsibilities. It would be the same scenario that they are facing now. She cursed her luck and continued to think. She supposed she could mate with someone else, that way the pack would have an alpha and a Luna. But would her wolf accept another...
Sakura hadn't even realized that Luna had dragged them into enemy territory... until she heard a distinct howl in the distance. 'Fuck! What were you thinking!?!'
'I... smelt something nice.'
'WHAT!?! You're going to get us killed over a smell!'
'I'M NOT THINKING STRAIGHT, OKAY! I'M SORRY!'
Sakura tsked and took over, steering them in the opposite direction but it was too late, she found herself flanked by a couple of large wolves. 'No, they aren't wolves... they're...'
A large body slammed into her side and she rolled down a steep embankment, before coming to a stop on her paws. She felt pain in her left side but continued to run, unable to turn back (or unwilling to) for fear of being killed. The white she-wolf cursed again when they moved in, before she felt a heavy pressure on her back. She twisted underneath the massive body of the lycan on top of her... and swiped her paws at his chin, causing his head to jerk backwards from the blow. He bent his massive head down and growled at her; his sharp, white canine's glistening in the sunlight and she saw a small trickle of blood dripping from his muzzle where her claw must have snagged on his skin.
Sakura couldn't hope to defeat him, this beast was much too massive for her, but that didn't mean she was going to go down without a fight. She continued to thrust her hind legs up and somehow managed to kick him where it hurts, giving the young she-wolf just enough time (and the proper leverage) to shove his large frame away from her.
She twisted around and gathered all of the strength that she could to push herself forward as she took off into the woods once more. But the lycan was hot on her heels and she knew that it was just a matter of time before he caught up to her again. A deep and angry howl came from behind her, sending a shiver down her spine. She could feel Luna responding to it and it caused her to falter in her steps, just enough so that he was on top of her in seconds.
She yelped when he pressed his massive paw against her back and squirmed, but his hold was unyielding. She could feel his hot breath upon her neck and closed her eyes as a new sensation washed over her. One she hadn't felt since, well since she was with her... mate. But... it couldn't be. A wolf was only given one... ever. That was a fact, right? But if that were true, then Sakura wouldn't be feeling this way.
It didn't make any sense, and in her haze, she didn't realize that the lycan had wrapped his jaws around her scruff until he lifted her off of the ground. As if she was a pup, she felt her body go slack in his grasp and she curled in on herself as he carried her back in the direction she had come from with his pack following close behind... away from her own pack to something unknown.
But several questions remained—
Who is this mysterious creature and what did he want with her? But more importantly, how could she have more than one fated mate and how on earth could one of them be a lycan?
