Y/N - Your Name

READER PRONOUNS: SHE/HER

A soulmate was a term Karl had heard thrown around a lot throughout all of time, but he didn't quite understand why. Not until he met you.

Every timeline he visited, he would fall in love with you. He found that every version of you loved sitting under trees and gazing up at the clouds or stars with him, hands intertwined.

And every time he leaves a timeline, his heart would ache for that version of you.

You. You, you, you.

After time, he found himself loosing himself, but he never lost you.

When he began suffering with memory loss, you were the only thing keeping him grounded. But now, you're all he remembers.

"Y/N." He breaths after newly arriving into a new timeline.

You stop and turn to look at him, a blank look of confusion on your face. "Do I know you?" You ask, giving a polite smile.

"No. No you don't, but I've heard of you from a friend." He lies, which makes you smile wider.

"I dread to think." You mutter, and he quickly shakes his head.

"Good things, only good things! I swear." He assures you, and you give a sigh of relief.

Your eyes linger on the man, taking in soft, fluffy brown hair and green eyes. "Are you sure we haven't met before?" You question.

"I think I'd remember a pretty lady like you if I'd met you before." Karl mutters, and your cheeks heat up.

"Thanks, you're not too bad yourself." You murmur, and Karl blushes and allows himself a warm smile at your interaction.

A couple weeks later...

Karl had met Sapnap, Quackity, Wilbur and Tommy. All people from his own timeline and all the others he'd been to before, but he doesn't remember them. Only you.

You'd invited him to sit under an oak tree and watch the sky the night before, as he knew you would. He accepted, and you sat under the stars for hours, and Karl had grabbed your hand only two hours in. You tensed at first, but relaxed and let him hold your hand.

Karl knew he wouldn't be able to stay for long, but he couldn't help but feel you were different. Even though you were similar to all the other versions of you, he thought about you more than before, he loved you more than before.

Your smile seemed wider, your eyes seemed brighter, your laugh seemed sweeter. He couldn't put his finger on it but you were different somehow.

He was hanging around with Sapnap and Quackity. He'd found himself taking a liking to the pair, and wondered if he'd liked any other versions of them before.

But those were lost memories, and he couldn't dig deep enough to find them.

"Hey, Karl?" Sapnap says, and Karl's head perks up.

"Yeah?" He answers. Sapnap gives a small smile before he speaks.

"Do you like Y/N?" He asks, and Karl blushes profusely. He stares at the ground as if it were the most interesting thing in the world.

"No!" Karl exclaims, but under Sapnap's prying gaze, he cracks. "Maybe." He huffs.

Quackity whoops in victory, and Sapnap hands him some money. Obviously there was a bet going on.

"Ask her out, man." Quackity suggests, and Karl's eyes flicker over to him.

In all the timelines, Karl had never plucked up the courage to ask you out. He'd just loved you and left you.

"I might, I just don't think she likes me the same-"

"Bullshit!" Quackity shouts, a big grin on his face.

"Ok, ok. Shush." Karl hisses, and Quackity cackles. Karl's blush was creeping up his neck.

"Just ask her out." Sapnap urges, and Karl bites his lip, thinking.

A few days later...

"Hi Karl!" You greet as he walks into your humble cottage. He grins and approaches you, giving you a big hug as his own greeting.

You can sense a sort of nervousness about him, though. The way his hands grip a little too tight, and his breath seems a little quicker. You pull away, a concerned look on your face.

"Are you ok, Karl?" You ask, reaching up to touch his shoulder.

"Me? Yeah, I'm- I'm fine." Karl lies, giving you what he hoped was a comforting smile.

"No you're not. What's wrong?" You push further, and Karl sighs heavily.

His heart is practically beating out of his chest, and his mouth goes dry. He wants to tell you, but he's scared.

"Y/N, I..." he trails off, throat closing up with his ever-building anxiety. "I like you." He manages to admit.

Your eyes widen and your jaw goes slack, but then your face breaks out into a smile. You wrap your arms around Karl's neck, and pepper soft kisses all over his face.

"I like you too." You whisper excitedly, and Karl practically jumps for joy.

He knows, in that moment, that he isn't leaving. As much as he knows he should, he can't. He won't.

And stay he does. Your relationship blossoms, and you spend long, happy years together.
