Lately, you hadn't been feeling the best. You always felt tired, you had no motivation and every day felt the same. You were sick of it, but couldn't seem to shake the feeling. You were at a loss for options.

That was until Phil checked up on you.

Father Phil : hey mate, you doing alright? haven't heard from you in a while

You stared at the screen, not knowing how to answer. You hated lying to anyone but you didn't want to worry Phil.

So after a few seconds of deliberation, you slowly type back.

Me : I'm doing alright :) hbu?

You click send and place your phone down, laying back and staring up at the ceiling, a pit of dread forming in your stomach.

Father Phil : really? you don't seem ok

You sigh as you realise that Phil knows that you lied. You really didn't want to tell Phil how the past few weeks had been.

Father Phil : you can tell me mate. im here for you

Biting the inside of your lip, you send a message back.

Me : it's nothing really, just been feeling a bit down lately

You click off of messages and start aimlessly scrolling through social media, trying to distract yourself from the anxiety and dreariness rising up and causing tears to prick in your eyes.

Father Phil : wanna talk about it?

Me : No
Me : It's fine

Your reply was instantaneous, and probably clued Phil in that the problem wasn't as little as you'd said, but you didn't care. You didn't want to burden Phil with your feelings.

Father Phil : well
Father Phil : wanna play a game? im up for whatever

The weight in your chest is lifted a little when Phil changes the subject.

Me : Sure
Me : How about just Minecraft?

Father Phil : sounds good :)

You swallow thickly, forcing yourself out of bed and to your computer. When you get there, you can see that Phil's already calling you in discord.

"Hey mate!" Comes Phil's cheery voice through your headphones. You smile a little, not realising how much you'd missed his voice.

"Hi Phil." You reply quietly, occupying yourself with loading up Minecraft instead of focusing on how your voice sounds.

There's a small, awkward pause from Phil before he clears his throat and suggests you two farm items in the DreamSMP. You agree, and log on to the server.

You check the players online, and see that Fundy is also on the server. You almost groan outwardly, but catch yourself before you can.

Fundy: Hi you two

You smile a little as you read the message, Fundy had a weird way of doing that to you.

Y/M/U: Hi :)
Ph1LzAMinecraft: hello there

You two silently set to work on finding a cave and mining. The silence is moderately comfortable, and the ache in your heart lessens a little as you both gather items together.

"Tommy's making a new video." Phil tells you, voice cutting harshly through the silence, so much so that you flinch a little.

"Oh." Is all you reply. Phil allows a few beats of quiet to pass before he speaks again.

"I think he was wondering if you wanted to be in it?" He offers, and you set your jaw, your teeth grinding together momentarily.

"I'll think about it." You mutter, and Phil lets out a sigh.

"You have to be honest with me, Y/N. Are you ok?" He asks firmly, and you can feel your throat tighten and dry and the question.

"I'm fine." You manage to whisper out. Yet another silence falls between you and you can feel Phil's inevitable frustration.

"I only want to help." He tells you. Softly, carefully.

"I know, it's just-" you cut yourself off, "it's hard."

"I know, mate. But I might be able to help." He says. You ponder the possible outcomes for a second before deciding to open up to your friend.

"Ok." You answer.

And open up you did. You told Phil all about your lowness, your lack of motivation, your anxieties.

Through it all, Phil listened. He asked questions that weren't on too sensitive of topics and you told him what you could. The conversation lasted just over an hour and in the end, he gave you advice.

He told you to try and join in with Tommy's video, even if it was for a short time. He also set up a schedule for you, where he would invite you to play games, or give you small things to do as a favour, or just for yourself.

Little by little, it began to work. You did join in with Tommy's video, and you became more and more productive as time went on.

It made you realise why Phil was such a popular father figure. He was good at comforting you, and he was good at keeping your mental health in check. He was purely an amazing friend and you couldn't appreciate him more.
