If only. Those must be the two saddest words in the world.

They were rooted into their position, the shock was clear in their eyes as the smell of victory filled Rosette's eyes. They felt the sudden gush of betrayal filled their lungs as they breathed out the shock that filled their minds. She then moved an inch to get closer to Lukka who has a stone-cold face, it was like everything that is happening right now wasn't his trigger- acting as a spectator in a play he created.

For him to leave willingly, there must be something behind, they recognize it as soon as their eyes met the triumphant smile of Rosette.

Of course, they wouldn't easily believe that Lukka can leave this town and go with Rosette after all he has his mate. They are supposed to be together at all times, connected through fate and only death can get them apart. They just felt betrayed that he would leave the pack and would rather go to a witch.

But now, he was the one who chose to be away from his mate and they have no idea why he could be so calm about this.

"Are you sure Lukka?" Even their leader couldn't believe his words and had to ask him again, he was having mixed feelings looking at Lukka's decision.

"I am"

His voice was that of resoluteness, there was no quiver hesitation in his tone and that made them question him relentlessly.

"Why? What about the pack? What about your mate?" Luna gently intervened in the matter, she knew there is a bigger reason for him to let go of his most precious mate, one that would definitely affect her.

"I need to get stronger"

At his words, their hands clenched tightly in their side, it was like their conscience was pierced and the accusation under his words give them both shame and anger. It could be understood easily by the look of Fenrir and Skoll who tried their best to keep themselves calm and collected though their mask has already cracked.

"We can train you for that" Maico's voice was rough around the edges, it was clear that he didn't want Lukka to leave their pack and wanted him to stay.

If he wanted to be stronger then they will train harder, more rigorously. If he still isn't satisfied then he can intensify their training routine and they would. He can train himself to be stronger in their pack, in the land of this small town they have been protecting for. He doesn't need to leave just to do it but Maico could understand his feelings, to be able to leave his pack and mate he must want to be stronger than ever before, physically and mentally.

After all, they faced a defeat, one that they have turned into a lesson.

"You don't need to say more, he already has his decision" Rosette halted their words of persuasion, she drew a clear line and intended to leave now when she heard a yell from an angry female wolf.

"She will get angry at you. She will be hurt and it will be because of you!" Her words accused him of the future, it was like daggers piercing his heart and strangling his throat but he paid no heed.

He will pay for what he's done, faced the consequences alone for having dealt with a witch and leaving her but his heart would forever be hollowed until it would be filled by her presence.

He regretted it. He regretted that he has to turn his back on his pack. He regrets that he wasn't strong enough to protect her. He regrets that he has to leave this place and leave her alone. He regrets that he has to break her heart.

He regretted his decision but there's no more turning back.

"I have to go now" he stood up, Rosette flashed a smirk at the rest of his pack and decided to chant a spell.

It consumed a large amount of her power yet there was no sign of her weakness, it was clear enough for them to see how powerful she is and that also serves as a warning to them to never offend a witch ever.

"It's finished, they would only think that a rabid wolf from an escaped animal institute has fled and infected the people with rabies that lead them to die easily. The fire was made because of an accident and everything would be back to normal"

It was memory manipulation that she did and it was indeed the right solution for their problem. Their existence is still hidden from the humans' eyes, and they would still retain the peace between nature and the human population.

They can only helplessly watch as Lukka disappears in front of their very eyes, his figure vanishing into thin air, and then he was gone.

"What about Selene?" Hati couldn't help but ask, she knew that Selene would undoubtedly suffer from Lukka's departure.

She was about to come here as well but now, she can only see the shadow of memories that they had created, the person she's missing for would be far away from her. No news about his health nor news of what he's doing now. There would be no more Lukka staying beside her, silently protecting her.

Lukka- a man who had tried his best to protect Selene from pain not knowing he would be the catalyst of it.
