Eyes trained on the monstrous figure that laid on the snow-covered ground, its blood permeating their sensitive noses as the blood condensed into the white pure snow creating a contrast between two shades. Its neck was torn open, its wound was viciously draining its life till it was no more.

His hands still reek of blood, his body covered in it as well but he stood still with an enraged expression against his frost-covered features.

He almost lost her.

If he was one second late, she will be no more. In his years of living a quiet and mundane life, gigantic waves surge making him unstable and disturbed. Like a stone being thrown into a serene lake, each time another was added it created ripples until the lake begins to experience a tsunami-like an expert.

"You do not have to beat yourself this hard Lukka"

Maico came out of the shadows, his piercing blue eyes held concern for him as he skinned the body with peaceful movements amidst the storm wreaking destruction inside of him.

"I almost lost her"

If it was years ago, he wouldn't have felt this confused and emotionally disturbed. His every being was drained in worry, possessiveness trashed in his mind luring him to put her in a room where no one could see her and the emotions that he had never felt before.

It was confusing him, the fear of the unknown rang in his ears. He wasn't sure if he could be the calm and stoic Lukka that she knew.

"We will look into it, for the meantime, let Hati go to her school to protect her" he kept the growl about to pass from his lips, he knew that he couldn't be sure if he can remain stable at her side.

What happened this day would haunt him forever, his shortcoming and fear will triple and he might do something to her that she wouldn't want to.

He can only nod at his leader's suggestion, the triplets were brought here to track the scent and he threw some of the skin of the dead bitten wolf in their feet. They sprang in their feet and changed form, their wolves will heighten their senses more than in their human form.

"You need to calm down Lukka"

Luna came and put her hands to his back calming him, he was still tensed about everything that happened, and letting one's emotions control their decisions wouldn't produce a wise outcome.

"Selene's already sleeping in the same bed she's been, she's safe now Lukka"  Luna's voice calmed him, and the fact that Selene is in their territory, relieved him.

It wasn't easy to accept her as his mate, the one that the moon goddess entrusted to him, one that he would go to lengths to be protected and loved.

She was a human. They get sick, die when their old and fear the unknown. She screams of trouble, an existence that will eventually weaken him and make him lose his sanity.

But she was brave, stubborn, and accepted his origin. Everything tells him that he will suffer, he has seen wolves mate for life and see them lose their reason after being with their mates.

He doesn't want that nor is he jealous of having a companion, he already has his pack to protect.

"Selene is a wonderful girl" his eyes stared at Luna, she can easily tell the emotions that he tries hard to conceal.

He suppresses the irritation that burst forth in his heart, he knew how wonderful and kind she is but it doesn't mean that he can accept her everything just because of the moon's will. Everything about her affects him and that's what he fears.

Maico came rushing in with the three in tow, his expression was dark and for some reason, he finds himself worrying over his human mate again.

"They found it"

"Who was that bitten wolf and who bit it?" His eyes look at the three of them and his eyes turned into slits when he caught a sniff of their scent.

It was Selene's college.

He growled and pushed past them, his figure easily got itself into Selene's room and he relishes her scent. It calmed him down but he could still feel the tremors in his hands, his mind wrapped up in pictures of her dying in her pool of blood.

What Selene didn't know was that every single day, he makes sure to check her out everytime she arrive and leave for school. He would always make sure that she's safe and unharmed, hiding behind the shadows, only in this way can he calm his wolf.

Maico mind linked him, telling him to return this instant for they have another news to tell. He shut his eyes tightly before releasing a harsh breath and left her room but not before he takes one last look at her.

"What else?" Hati looked at Skoll while Skoll looked at Fenrir, it was easy to tell that they didn't want to tell the bad news to him.

"He's one of the people who got lost just this week and all of them are from this town" Fenrir stated, his entire self shrouded in solemnity.

"Didn't the police search for them?" Luna asked, it was also weird for the police to not do searches for those who were lost.

"We found his home and Hati poses as his friend and asked his family about him. He was acting strange two weeks ago and then after a week, he was missing along with other several people. They told her that they've already alerted the police" Skoll added, each of them has confusion about why the police aren't trying much in this search.

"Nonetheless, it's better for us to integrate into this town. We need to find that wolf who bit human and stop him"

The rest dispersed, Luna and Maico went together to make a plan while he went to Selene's room to watch her and make sure she's safe.

He soon saw her moving in the bed, her face dotted in sweat as she groans painfully with her eyes closed. She must be having nightmares, remorse pierced his heart and soon he finds himself walking towards her and taking her hand.

"You're okay, you're safe now, sleep Selene" he whispered in a soft tone, he never knew he could be this gentle to someone.

The night deepens as her breath grew longer and soon, he finds himself looking at her, wishing that nothing bad would ever happen to her or he will lose himself.

It didn't take them long to figure out who it was after and when they did, it made them take action to move into her world.
